To wear the same clothes twice?!

Do you wear the same outfit 2 days running? I’m never at the same site 2 days in a row but often same colleagues. Idly musing ‘what shall I wear tomorrow, I wore this yesterday’ and its definitely into the wash tonight as I’ve cooked in it and DD was horrified.

Pants, socks, tights and gym kit all get washed after each wear. Vests and bras get worn more than once. Tops, dresses and trousers get hung on hangers and aired between wears, and are washed when they fail the sniff test, or earlier if I feel icky about them for no obvious reason.

Pinkyyy · 06/11/2019 22:33

YANBU at all. Especially if you're not even on the same site. I try not to over wash my clothes and like you, I don't really sweat so re-wearing is absolutely fine.

Notodontidae · 06/11/2019 22:34

YANBU, and the way things are going, by 2050 every one will have to wait two days before another wash, to cut down on energy, save water, and cut down on detergents in the waste water.

Lostsocksaresoannoying · 06/11/2019 22:36

I do. Socks and pants are changed and washed daily.

Clothes can usually get 2-3 wears, cardigans and jumpers more, pyjamas last a week as I don't sleep in them.

Kids uniforms get washed midweek.

No way are my clothes dirty after one wear.

ThatMuppetShow · 06/11/2019 22:37

though not if they wore the same thing twice (with a few days in between) without washing it.

How would you even know if they washed it or not?
I occasionally put a load of laundry on in the evening, hang it before bed and it's dry in the morning. I might wear the exact same top twice in a row and it has been cleaned in between - I do that all the time with gym clothes, they dry immediately, but not only.

IdblowJonSnow · 06/11/2019 22:37

I'm too smelly to get away with this otherwise I would. I do wear bras for ages tho and when something is brand new i avoid washing it for a bit in case it doesn't wash well.

1frenchfoodie · 06/11/2019 22:38

I wear things a number of times before washing them but not two days in a row, it just looks like I didnt make it home. I might make an exception for very neutral trousers and happily rewear base layers 2-3 days in a row.

justasking111 · 06/11/2019 22:38

socks and knickers need changing daily, but clothes, no I just hang them back up. Sticky child fingers and barfing babies meant a lot more washing at the time, now no problem.

Atalune · 06/11/2019 22:39

I wear most things 2-4 times. Tops maybe 2 but bottoms, gosh loads unless I’m on then I don’t see the problem.

I am very not sweaty though.

ChileConCarne · 06/11/2019 22:39

Yes all of the time. Now I work from home I wear outfits many more times than twice too! People are INSANE with washing clothes they’ve barely worn, in cold weather when you’re not going to be sweaty.

ChileConCarne · 06/11/2019 22:43

As this is an anonymous forum, I’ll admit to only washing my jeans maybe 4 times a year. My husband is the same with jeans. They just don’t seem to get dirty and never smell, and it protects the denim and makes them last longer. Anyone else?

ThatMuppetShow · 06/11/2019 22:47

I’ll admit to only washing my jeans maybe 4 times a year.

depends how often you wear them!

If worn daily, mine feel dirty after just a week.

Deadringer · 06/11/2019 22:48

Not two days in a row, but like a pp I wear something, hang it up and wear it again after a few days or the next week.

lakeswimmer · 06/11/2019 22:55

YANBU - I wear jeans and a jumper to work pretty much everyday. I'll wear the same pair of jeans for a week and during that time might alternate between two different jumpers. I often wear the same outfit two days running though. I'd be amazed if anyone noticed. I don't take much notice of what I wear myself so I can't imagine anyone else does either Grin

ddl1 · 06/11/2019 23:04

So long as they're still clean, why not?! No one gives a second look if a man wears the same outfit two days running; some people think that a woman can' t possibly do so, but it's a silly idea though one that the fashion industry is obviously motivated to encourage.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 06/11/2019 23:06

Trousers get 2-3 wears, same for jumpers.

Undies, socks, vest tops/T-shirt's are washed after 1 wear, because they directly touch sweaty bits.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/11/2019 23:06

Never wear the same thing to work two days running, but skirts/trousers/jeans are worn more than once without washing. Tops washed every wear. At home I wear the same “lounge wear” for two or three evenings (joggers, thermal vest, or t-shirt, jumper at this time of year) but I take them off for bed and put on a nightshirt to sleep.

Etinox · 06/11/2019 23:11

Thank you! I think for appearances I’ll try not to wear same outfit, but happy to know that there’s nothing wrong with not rewashing between each wear. A colleague who I was with again today complimented my socks/ boots combo yesterday so it was probably noticed.
Grin absolutely no risk of being suspected a dirty stop out. Grin

I like to wear a little cotton vest or t-shirt under my clothes. I change that but find that the top layers stay fresher for longer And can be worn again as they aren’t against the skin.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 06/11/2019 23:17

I can't put worn clothes back in the wardrobe. They're now "dirty". Unless they're a fancy dress I've only worn for a few hours and I can keep track of how many times I've worn it. I keep them hanging about in my bedroom (some literally) if I'm planning on wearing them again. But I can't put them away. I imagine them now getting "dirtier" as they are hanging about. (Imagining the body-bacteria multiplying on them exponentially!!) so they have to stay quarantined away from the clean stuff in wardrobe (apart from the fancy dresses!) but I will probably wear them a couple more times.

I think I'm over-thinking this.

ThatMuppetShow · 06/11/2019 23:22

They are not dirty, they are semi-dirty, so you have the CHAIR or their brother Grin: that no-clothes land for items that are too dirty for the wardrobe, but too clean for the laundry basket.

I wouldn't store my shoes in my wardrobe either

Northernsoullover · 06/11/2019 23:28

I wear stuff over and over. I'll change tshirts and knickers daily but things like sweaters and jeans will be worn until they are grubby. Either with a smell or stain. I actually wear socks more than once too in winter. My feet never sweat.

Bluerussian · 06/11/2019 23:31

If you're anything like me, there wouldn't be room in the wardrobe for shoes! They deserve a big shoe rack of their own. As for handbags......

My mum used to say that clothes which had been worn (such as jumpers I suppose), attracted moths!

When I was at work if someone came in wearing the same clothes as the day before, people often said they'd been out all night :-). That's a bit cheeky but was meant jokingly. I minded my own business but would never have worn something two days running.

ActualHornist · 06/11/2019 23:33

I do, but not normally on consecutive days. I’ll normally air it for the second day just in case there’s lingering deodorant or perfume smells. Or bum or armpit smells but then I normally wash them Grin

Springfern · 06/11/2019 23:34

And I almost can't remember the last time I washed my favourite bra...maybe I'm grim but the amount of washing on here is excessive
