Channel 4 News - overt bias

37 replies

Fuzzywuzzywuzzy · 06/11/2019 19:40

Watching Channel 4 news at the moment.

They had Grenfell survivors and relatives on to share their views on Rees-Mogg's comments.

Surely we already know what their feelings are?

So what is the point Channel 4 News? Oh yeah, to re-emphasise that Rees-Mogg is a nasty man. He's a Tory, so all Tories are nasty. So vote for someone that's not a member of the Conservative Party. Is this how low they are stooping?

Confused It's actually reporting the news. Probably because you're so used to pro government media bias that the actual news seems biased. YABU

Hefzi · 06/11/2019 19:44

I doubt anyone actually thought C4 was neutral, though, so people presumably choose to watch it knowing that... I'm surprised that it's on today's news at all though - yesterday's story, about which he's already apologised: perhaps it's a slow news day Grin

Cinammoncake · 06/11/2019 20:09

I disagree. He hasn't resigned and there's a question mark over whether he should for many people. I'm sure it's more convenient for the government if these things are brushed under the carpet after one day Hmm but I think the families of Grenfell survivors and relatives should be able to have their say. Sounds fair enough - they couldn't have got them there by yesterday night.
So for me, C4 news have done the right thing.

Petrichor11 · 06/11/2019 20:18

He’s not nasty because he’s a Tory, he’s a bigoted, sexist, racist, homophobic cunt of the highest order who’s views about anyone who isn’t a rich white christian man are abhorrent and have no place in 21st century politics.

TinyGhostWriter · 06/11/2019 20:18

Are you saying that members of the government shouldn’t be held to account by the media because there has been a general election called?

It’s topical. It’s news. He’s an awful human being.

pointythings · 06/11/2019 20:50

He's a pretty senior figure in government and the fact that he has said this kind of thing openly is absolutely news. It should be reported. He should be held to account. I find it hard to believe anyone would have a problem with that no matter what party someone is from - this is inexcusable behaviour. So many apologists for him!

This is also not the first overtly nasty thing he has said - he also compared a leading expert on the NHS to Andrew Wakefield for not toeing the line on the risks to medicine availability in a No Deal Brexit scenario. This man has form and every time he speaks in this way, it needs to be put out there for everyone to see.

YouTheCat · 06/11/2019 20:52

Yabu - totally and utterly

GhostofFrankGrimes · 06/11/2019 20:56

YABU.

Weirdwonders · 06/11/2019 21:04

YANBU. I’ve got no time for C4 news. It shouldn’t call itself news. It’s not remotely impartial. It’s usually Cathy Newman or Krishnan G-M haranguing someone for not being sufficiently left wing or progressive.
(And no, I’m no fan of JRM, or the government, but C4 news is still dreadful.)

NegroniOnIce · 06/11/2019 21:07

Petrichor11

Beautifully put!

Fuzzywuzzywuzzy · 06/11/2019 21:41

@Hefzi

I think rather than it being a slow day for news, it was a case of how much longer they can string it out this majorly negative issue for the Tories, particularly on the first day of electioneering.

@Weirdwonders

I don't know why I watch it at times either. Maybe to see the moments when the presenters get someone who they can't browbeat and who challenges them back. Oh, the shuffling of papers by the presenters when that happens!

It only happened yesterday Confused

Lookingsparkly · 06/11/2019 21:50

He was a nasty odious man before his Grenfell comment!

PortiaCastis · 06/11/2019 21:53

He's a nasty snooty midogynistic bastard who should be sacked for his comments

ThebishopofBanterbury · 06/11/2019 21:54

Why are you defending him? His comments were gross, crass and ignorant. Whoever said that would have been vilified, whatever party they were from..

Sunshinegirl82 · 06/11/2019 22:19

If Jeremy Corbyn had made those comments would it still be unacceptable for the news to be reporting on it 24 hours later?

PerkingFaintly · 06/11/2019 22:19

Fucking hell.

Slow news day?

Do you know what actually has been the front page news most of today and yesterday?

The resignation of one of Boris Johnson's cabinet ministers for being involved in (and possibly lying about) selecting as Tory candidate a man who deliberately sabotaged a rape trial. Rapist found guilty at second trial.

Not that you would know from reading Mumsnet.Hmm

WTF?

chomalungma · 06/11/2019 22:36

Rees Mogg and his comments.
Resignation of a Cabinet Minister
Fake video from Conservative HQ
Not releasing the Russian investigation
Retracting their promise that politicians would have a say on extending the transiiton

#classicDom?

😂😂😂
Spot on

strawberrieshortcake · 06/11/2019 23:38

YABU OP I think you know why they are interviewing Grenfell victims and are just upset that it doesn’t fit your agenda. Wink

curlykaren · 06/11/2019 23:45

You should just get your news from Laura Kuenssberg's twitter feed, sounds like it would be much more to your taste.

Hazardd · 06/11/2019 23:53

I think it should be news that Jacob should resign but hasn't. I think it should be in the news that the Tories are now a far right party. I think it should be in the news still that Johnson misled the Queen. I think it should be in the news that there's unprecedented medication shortages and it's brexit related. I think it should be in the news that the Tories are driving the news for foodbanks.

I think it should be in the news that these people in cabinet are harmful and are acting recklessly without consequences. And I think it should be in the news that we the people should deliver those consequences by.....

never voting for these fucking cunts ever again

Bunnyfuller · 06/11/2019 23:53

Yes. Nasty Ch4 for giving this airtime in the 24 hour period after it had been said.

If JRM fell over in a forest he’d still be an arrogant, prejudiced wanker who considers anyone not upper class as algae.

LellyMcKelly · 07/11/2019 00:56

Rees-Mogg is a nasty man. There are loads of good Tories, but he’s not one of them. He’s an appalling embarrassment to moderate Conservatives.

Fuzzywuzzywuzzy · 07/11/2019 01:49

@curlykaren

I'm not on twitter, facebook etc. I do read and watch various news sources. I don't limit myself to echo chambers. Hence why I like mumsnet forums, for a range of views (even when some are more dominant than others).

@Hazardd

So I take it you have voted for the Conversatives in the past?

As for myself I have voted Labour, Lib Dem, Green etc in the past. I once even voted Conversative as well. Doesn't matter though as I am in a safe Labour seat. See I consider many different things when deciding who to vote for.
