to wonder why chocolate bars aren't packed with

the printed design or breakage pattern facing the opening?

Most chocolate bars have some kind of design, pattern or divisions where it will break embedded into the chocolate.

Most chocolate bars are packaged so the opening is at the back and the front is covered by full 'sheet' of packaging.

I normally open it at the back and break it from behind so never see the pattern or design.

To see that you either have to open the whole thing or pull it out and turn it over.

It makes no sense.

Why not package it with the design towards the back where the split in the packaging is?

Some people don't know about the pinch.

@GuyForks I was doing production approvals for a client. And yes. I was forced to sample a lot :)

As freelance work goes, it was one of the tastier assignments! There is little to be done about the packaging issue, I fear. For testing, we would liberate a bar from its wrappers and place it right side up on a board to break it up with a knife, and thus get the full benefit of the pattern. Maybe you need a special chocolate sampling board to appreciate the beauty of each bar in its entirety?

Or maybe I need your job!

@PigletJohn the Vulcan neck pinch? So as not to have to share?

30to50FeralHogs · 05/11/2019 23:41

I'd never thought about it, but now you've said it I'm going to be annoyed by it! I love the idea of taking it out and putting it on a board. I have the perfect one too - I used it for my lunch today, laying cheese, crackers, and tomatoes out on it like some kind of lunch wanker. I'm now going to become a chocolate wanker.

Marcipex · 05/11/2019 23:42

The large Toblerones are impossible to break.

GrumpyInsomniac · 05/11/2019 23:46

Grin If it makes you feel better I did end up paying for the sampling. I'm lactose intolerant and there came a point midweek before we shifted to dark chocolate where I looked like I was 7 months pregnant and was swallowing simeticone like smarties.

Was certainly quite an experience 🍫

ymf117 · 05/11/2019 23:48

They have patterns? Wink

Sparklfairy · 05/11/2019 23:49

You mean you dont just shove it in whole like me?! Grin

Chunkers · 06/11/2019 00:00

Oh Good Lord! Re: Toblerone. All those years acting like a heathen...

Do they still make Yorkies? Those were impossible to break.

Soon2BeMumof3 · 06/11/2019 00:29

Shock holy shit. You're right! Why is this?!

DontCallMeShitley · 06/11/2019 00:56

If any of you buy Tonys Chocolonely you will be driven demented by the stupid design that makes it impossible to break unless you unwrap it.

It also makes a mess because little bits break off and fall out of the wrapper which rips if you try breaking the chocolate without removing the paper first.

DontCallMeShitley · 06/11/2019 00:57

Oh, and BTW, you can't just take a bite because it is thick enough to break your teeth. It is real, proper chocolate, not that waxy, palm oil shit.

Happityhap · 06/11/2019 01:05

I had wondered about that.
Thank you, OP, for giving Grumpy the opportunity to explain it for us.

Maybe a little sharp blade is what's needed, to open chocolate bars from the front.

GuyForks · 06/11/2019 01:09

@DontCallMeShitley

I've never seen anything so horrific in my life. I've fortunately never heard of Tony and I've never seen his wares and I think he should take his chocolate and stick it in an inaccessible place.

Now I'm worried break my Toblerone incorrectly.

Is there a tutorial I can watch?

GuyForks · 06/11/2019 01:34

@70sWitch

Is there a tutorial I can watch?

Of course. This is what you need. Basically rather than snapping it off away from the rest of the bar, you break it towards the bar.

Tony's chocolate also means you can't work out how many calories are in a square so you end up having to eat the lot and having a day off the diet just me?

@GuyForks Tonys chocolate is the best you will find , it's just a shame he doesn't understand aesthetics and the need to be able to fit a suitable chunk into the gob without either getting a tiny triangle or a huge wonky chunk, aside from the need to open it up first to break it.

DontCallMeShitley · 06/11/2019 01:49

Toblerone was ideal to fit a chunk in all at once, but it did make sticky fingers.

However, it is no longer a problem for me as I stopped buying it when they made it taste like crap. Sugar and palm oil, no way would I even bother. You need proper chocolate, the good stuff.

Preggosaurus9 · 06/11/2019 02:47

I was actually wondering this today! Got some fancy choc which comes in a cardboard outer and foil inner. The cardboard opens at the back of the bar but then the foil doesn't so you have to turn it over. Never seen that before. From Lidl if you want to give it a try!
