Did you take GCSE English Lang in 1997? Do you remember this question?

Husband absolutely refuses to believe that in my GCSE English Language exam I had the text of She's Leaving Home by Lennon/McCartney and had to write a note from the girl to her parents.

I'm absolutely certain I did! It was, I think, AQA board. Might be wrong on that though.

Did anyone else do this exam? Tell me I didn't imagine it!

I had that! Earlier though, mine would've been early 90s,and a different board. I think we had a choice of what to write, I seem to remember writing a short story from a younger sibling's point of view but I can't remember how directed that was.

LittleAndOften · 05/11/2019 17:44

That's funny, I vaguely remember something similar from my English paper but it was 1995! No way of checking though.

Simkin · 05/11/2019 17:45

Sounds familiar to me too but I did mine in 92.

Reachedsohigh · 05/11/2019 17:47

I did mine in 1992, we had this question

PlasticPatty · 05/11/2019 17:51

My GCE had something in it based on Eleanor Rigby, some twenty-odd years before yours, so it seems quite likely.

emwithme · 05/11/2019 17:55

That was definitely in the 92 paper, as it was used by school as our mock in 93.

iolaus · 05/11/2019 18:06

I did my GCSEs in 95 and think I remember it from my mock (definately something about a girl leaving home)

MillicentMartha · 05/11/2019 18:09

Maybe it was your mock paper and from 1992?

FairyBatman · 05/11/2019 18:11

Also did mine in ‘95 and remember it. Couldn’t tell you now if it was the mock or the exam though.

Butterymuffin · 05/11/2019 18:13

I would guess it was set in one of these years and then other people did it as a past paper in their mocks or for other practice. Good question.

HauntedPinecone · 05/11/2019 18:15

I had that question. Was either 95 or 96.

Bodakyellow · 05/11/2019 18:16

I did as well - how bizarre!!!

jamoncrumpets · 05/11/2019 18:25

I swear it was the actual exam. Maybe I've misremembered though.

I did mine in 1995 and I absolutely remember studying this in our lessons (not sure it came up in the actual exam though).

SocksRock · 05/11/2019 18:48

1994 here and I remember something similar, although not if it was a mock or actual exam

jamoncrumpets · 05/11/2019 18:49

I got an A* for it, I remember that much. I'm allowed to brag about that because my English grades were v much an anomaly 😂

GCSE class of 96 here and yes, I remember this!

Pinkypurple35 · 05/11/2019 18:53

Yes, we did this as a piece of course work in 1992, don’t know what exam board it was though.

Corna · 05/11/2019 21:39

Same here. Piece of course work in about 1992 or 3 possibly mocks.

satanstoenailsandwich · 05/11/2019 21:41

My French exam a few years later had a question about Brad Pitt dressing up in a chicken costume Confused

BarrenFieldofFucks · 05/11/2019 21:48

I remember that!

BarrenFieldofFucks · 05/11/2019 21:48

Mine was '97

user1471530109 · 05/11/2019 21:52

'96 and definitely something similar. We used to have a booklet of possible 'sources' (mini texts) we had before the exam that we could read and study. We then took it into the exam for the unseen questions.

Don't think AQA was a thing. I'm sure I remember SEG (and MEG) etc. I could be completely misremembering that though...

vivacian · 05/11/2019 21:53

You lot are ABVU having memories like this!

Pinkarsedfly · 05/11/2019 21:55

I didn’t even do English exams!

Sat mine in 1990, and English Lit and Lang were 100% coursework.

Hard to believe.
