TO think this is strange?

My BF of a year regularly refers to himself by nicknames that his ex gf used to call him? It makes me feel uncomfortable and since finding out I don’t use them myself. He broke up with this gf about 8 years ago and she is married now. He is 31.

I think you’d be better off getting a dog, OP.

I think this is fabulous advice. I’ve been looking into it for ages and I think that is what I’m going to do!

Makes me think of the strange kid in Ben and Holly
'Quentin likes playschool' Bear Smile

I agree, OP.... if I wanted to talk like that, I’d get a golden retriever puppy. I want a man that I can say “Ride me, Big Boy!!!”, to etc.... One is sexy and one is cute, but very definitely not.

Ithinkitcouldbeme · 05/11/2019 01:27

Um.... so.... I read this and at first I thought the same as everyone else - “what a weirdo”. Then you started to reveal more and more details and I got this weird déjà vu type feeling. The nickname, the song, the age, the 8 years.... I think I might be the ex? 😳

If I am, it was not a nickname meant in an endearing way (he was a lazy sod) and you can tell him I don’t think of him often

Ithinkitcouldbeme · 05/11/2019 01:35

Does his name begin with S and he would have just had a birthday in the last month?

Ithinkitcouldbeme · 05/11/2019 01:48

Oh no it can’t be me, we’re not even friends on Facebook so I definitely wouldn’t be liking anything of his. As you were Grin

Chunkers · 05/11/2019 02:01

Aw, man! I was well up for several pages of comparing notes...

justilou1 · 05/11/2019 06:16

I’m disappointed too!

HopefullyAnonymous · 05/11/2019 10:12

I’ve had a right giggle at this thread. That poem Grin MN at its best.

God that's really unattractive. How old is he? I'm trying to imagine being turned on my a man who whimpers I'm a little sloth and failing miserably 🤣

NearlyGranny · 05/11/2019 10:24

I think there are hints about the reason for their breakup here.

She called him sloth because he was lazy and never pulled his weight. She called him goose because he was silly (or inappropriately handsy!)

Next time he refers to himself this way, why not ask, "Did she call you that because..?"?

He might forget those names in a hurry.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/11/2019 10:24

I'm a little sloth
Hear me snore
I'm a little sloth
I think I'll just sleep a little more

I am a goose
A silly goose
I'll give you goose flesh
Be warned, don't enmesh
Your heart, your home or your finances

What could his ex have been thinking when she used such term of erm, endearment ?

No, not really attractive is it?

HerRoyalFattyness · 05/11/2019 10:52

Confused he's odd.
Get out OP

justilou1 · 05/11/2019 11:05

Oh well... Everyone loves roast goose at Christmas.

AntiHop · 05/11/2019 11:21

I'd find this very off putting.

HaveeeeYouMetTed · 05/11/2019 11:27

I can't get past the fact he lays in bed saying "I'm a little sloth" ... that would make my ovaries shrivel up Envy

Nofunkingworriesmate · 05/11/2019 11:32

It’s simple, ask him to show commitment and respect by stopping the nostalgic mic names, if he doesn’t you have your answer

Pigwee · 05/11/2019 22:33

Ithinkitcouldbe Oh gosh! I was really worried then but quite interested. As it is, it’s definitely not your ex I can confirm!
