My BF of a year regularly refers to himself by nicknames that his ex gf used to call him? It makes me feel uncomfortable and since finding out I don’t use them myself. He broke up with this gf about 8 years ago and she is married now. He is 31.

Christ on a bike. Awful song Halloween Blush. Yep, is harking after the ex, and totally disregarding how that makes you feel. How is the relationship otherwise? Is he 'there', does he care for you, respect you? This would be triggering a root and branch review for me. Life's too short to be with someone who's THAT nostalgic about another.

crustycrab · 03/11/2019 17:04

Ugh, he's definitely hankering after his ex.

Little sloth is sleepy? 🤢

covetingthepreciousthings · 03/11/2019 17:12

Just placemarking to find out what the other animal is..

messolini9 · 03/11/2019 17:18

he then quoted a song lyric with this girl’s name in it ... And then he looked into the distance and said “ah but I suppose that’s all in the past now.”

Affected little twonk, isn't he?
Yes, he's talking about the ex to diminish & undermine you.
His referral to himself by the animal nicknames is twee & puerile.
Anyone who talks about themselves in the third person is an egotist & a bore.

What do you see in the ghastly little man baby?

Manicpixiedreambitch · 03/11/2019 17:44

I wouldn't like any of this and I'm not prone to jealousy. It smacks of hankering after the past.

Pigwee · 03/11/2019 17:49

Yes he does hanker after the past - it was a messy breakup and I don’t think he ever really got over it.

The other name is goose!

OP posts:
Lobsterquadrille2 · 03/11/2019 18:08

Goose ..... as in upstairs, downstairs and in my lady's chamber?

Dodgy.

meyouandlulutoo · 03/11/2019 20:03

Or Goose, as in Top Gun 'Goose'? Now I'm showing my age!

sprite25 · 03/11/2019 20:35

Ewww. Just ewww. I once had a brief summer thing with someone who was still obviously obsessed with their ex despite the ex being with someone else for over a year, the way he talked about her made me feel like a nobody. Get out now and tell him exactly why, find someone who feels this way about you, not an ex from 8 years ago!

pooopypants · 03/11/2019 21:03

This whole thread makes me feel icky

Run. Run for your life. The hills are that way >>>>>>

Fuckenstein · 03/11/2019 21:24

Just dump him and move on.

If the nicknames were tiger and horse it might be worth considering but I wouldn't comoete with a memory when the prize is a sloth or a goose.

Pigwee · 03/11/2019 21:58

This really made me laugh.

FlamingoAndJohn · 03/11/2019 22:03

Who the hell talks about themselves in the 3rd person anyway?

CatUnderTheStairs · 03/11/2019 22:08

Yeah, doesn’t sound like a catch. It’s bothering you and irritating you. It probably won’t get less irritating or become more endearing.

Bumfuzzled · 03/11/2019 22:13

How does a man say “I’m a little sloth” in a way that doesn’t make your ovaries shrivel?

Please dear god don’t tell us he says it in a weird baby voice. Could that be why his previous relationship ended? Confused

KnickerBockerAndrew · 03/11/2019 22:20

I think the song lyric thing is very cruel and disrespectful. He's looking back at the ex with rose-tinted spectacles, and if you dumped your dear little goosey sloth now, he'd do the same to you (and quote song lyrics about you to his new gf...)

InsertFunnyUsername · 03/11/2019 22:34

I'm really sorry OP but I am grinning at you watching your partner roll around calling himself a Sloth or Goose, Ffs talk about set the mood.

But anyway I would feel the same as you. And would have felt incredibly insulted with the song incident. What a silly goose.

Pigwee · 03/11/2019 22:50

Yes it’s true. I think he is emotionally immature. I don’t think he meant it to be cruel. I think he is just blunt and unthinking. But it says a lot about what he really thinks. I suppose we all look back nostalgically at good past relationships (I certainly do) but I’m aware enough to not say it to my current partner.

I do sometimes look at him and think he probably will make a very nice partner at 40. He seems a bit emotionally young still.

OP posts:
lexiepuppy · 03/11/2019 22:53

Not only is he not over his ex, it smacks of trying to make you jealous and triangulate with you and make you insecure.

He sounds like an immature man child, and I guess that’s why he got dumped.

My ex narcissist husband kissed me and told me that he had been thinking of my very pretty friend, whilst he locked lips with me. He put me through loads of abuse , before I wised up and dumped him.

Pigwee · 03/11/2019 22:53

I may just save him in my phone as little goosey sloth now. Grin Or will that just give me the rage every time I see it.

OP posts:
justilou1 · 03/11/2019 22:55

I would point out that sloths are physically repulsive, stinking creatures that literally go mouldy.
Neither geese nor sloths are remotely attractive creatures. He sounds like a small child. Not sexy at all. Have you asked him “Do you honestly think that’s sexy?”

whereareallmyhairbands · 03/11/2019 23:04

I knew a man,
His name was sloth
Or sometimes it was goosey

He thought that this was rather cute
But it turned my face quite puce-y

I'd rather meet a stallion, or elephant
Or bear,
A hint of something manly
Especially "down there"

Instead I have a two toed sloth
Who lays around all day
Or a greasy bird with a nasty beak
who thinks that life's a play

I long to find a reason, to leave this crazy zoo
Perhaps we should as Emily
Or did she do a runner too?

Tillygetsit · 03/11/2019 23:21

Bravo 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Pigwee · 03/11/2019 23:22

That is very impressive! It is like living in constantly morphing zoo!

justilou1 · 04/11/2019 00:53

I think you’d be better off getting a dog, OP.
