New management ruining the office. Move on or stay?

MaButterface · 02/11/2019 00:18

I work in a small office where we have a very close knit relationship. New management was installed by the head office which means we got a new director who brought in his people whom he gave high positions who screw existing people over. I have been offered a new job, higher salary, better company that people in my industry would love to work at, but I will miss the good friends at work so much. The company has now counter offered and money wise it is pretty good but I am so miserable and angry every day especially after seeing they really do treat colleagues I care about badly. They dont treat me personally badly but i just cant stand watching the car crash and people around me getting hurt, lied to, etc. And i have no power to change things. Do I move on or do I stay?

Move on. It will only get worse where you are. I speak from experience.

walkinwar · 02/11/2019 00:47

Absolutely take the new job! Hopefully your colleagues will also vote with their feet.

HouseworkAvoider10 · 02/11/2019 00:49

Go. Had this happen in 3 jobs I was in. It'll only get worse. Get out now.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 02/11/2019 00:51

Move. No amount of money will make your current job more bearable.

noeyedeer · 02/11/2019 00:53

Move. You'll still have your friends, and more than likely they'll be gone soon too.

Starrynights86 · 02/11/2019 01:08

Leave. It will never be the same. We have had terrible management recently and while changes are being made, it’s going to take so much time to get back to where we were, particularly in terms of people’s wellbeing.

JoyceJeffries · 02/11/2019 01:14

Go. If you stay you’ll just get angrier - it will never go back to how it was.

BrokenLogs · 02/11/2019 01:18

Absolutely go!

AdoreTheBeach · 02/11/2019 02:24

You wrote that you’re so miserable and angry every day. You need to leave as no one should be miserable and angry every day.

Given that your existing company HQ stepped to change the management, something from a business perspective was not working. Clearly the new management is cleaning house and implementing new things so the work atmosphere you previously enjoyed it over. If new management is cleaning house, most of these people will be gone. You’re unhappy how the new managers are doing this. Move to the new job. You owe it to yourself to not be miserable and angry everyday.

I think normally in these situations if the person offered the new role accepts the counter offer from their existing company, they usually last 6-12 months before leaving. The things that made you look for a new role are still at the existing company. More money won't make them go away.

I knew my old job was stressful (also because of management) but I didn't appreciate quite how much the stress was affecting me till I left. Such an enormous weight lifted then. Suddenly I felt like me again.

Definitely, leg it!

justilou1 · 02/11/2019 02:38

Move on and keep in touch via email and meet for coffee. You will make new friends at new workplace.

custardbear · 02/11/2019 02:49

Go, your colleagues will move on soon too I'd imagine so it'll never be the same

earsup · 02/11/2019 03:07

Go. The axe will fall on you at some point....seen it happen several times.

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 02/11/2019 04:13

Move

FiveGoMadInDorset · 02/11/2019 04:33

Move on, don't put your mental health at risk for colleagues. Would they stay for you if they were in the same position?

BlueJava · 02/11/2019 04:43

Move on; their counter offer won't change gow they behave.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 02/11/2019 04:59

Go! You're super lucky to have an amazing opportunity to go to! That's always the time to leave - not when you're forced to find a new job.

Go before the new team zap your energy ad potentially damage your confidence.

PhilCornwall1 · 02/11/2019 05:12

They've counter offered, but they know you want to leave, to use management bullshit "you aren't committed". You'd be at the top of the list if there were to be redundancies. It's wrong, as thats not how it should work, but believe me it does, I've watched senior managers make those types of decisions.

I'd accept the other offer and be done with them. You aren't happy there and a counter offer isn't going to change that.

CodenameVillanelle · 02/11/2019 05:14

Move on and give them an extremely honest exit interview

Glittertwins · 02/11/2019 05:47

Get out now whilst you have the chance. It might not be available when your friends decide to leave and you'll be stuck with a culture you hate, no friends and no planned exit.

I never thought of this, but you are right. The project I am in has no chance in hell of ever launching in the timeline the director has promised the board. And I know I will be on the chopping block when it happens.

Thanks everyone. I am 100% leaving!

Don't be the last to leave - move on.
You'll keep your old friends, and make new.

BigFatLiar · 02/11/2019 08:36

Good, you'll hopefully find new colleagues who you'll get on with. As previously said the extra money won't have made the crap environment change.

We've had this happen in the past and its been a disaster. Soon you won't recognize the place as others leave.

PhilCornwall1 · 02/11/2019 11:17

Good on you. Moving on to far better things.
