Adele's Weight loss

I already know I am being unreasonable, but wonder if any else feels the same or understands my point!

I'm a massive Adele fan, have loved her and her work forever, she's all over the news and social media because of her (apparently 3 stone loss) and I agree she looks fab and happy and I know that's what's important, but part of me feels like she's sort of lost the 'edge' she had. She never seemed to want to conform to society's/music industries need for women to be slim, or lose weight and I thought she kind of had a middle finger up to all that...

Silly really, but just wondered if anyone else knows what I mean..?!?

Lol. @bloggersblog the guy off the chase has just lost the magic three stone too!

Wish I could anyway! Adele looks fab 😍

JaneSmithey · 01/11/2019 22:20

She looks amazing

SunshineCake · 01/11/2019 22:22

Yes you are being silly and it isn't about knowing what you mean. What a thing to be bothered by.

rhinocrash · 01/11/2019 22:26

Biscuit I think the second one I have given in many years on MN

I want to tell you to fuck off, but a biscuit seems more polite. How dare you slag off another woman anyone for making a healthier choice?

It isn't "edgy" to be a heart attack risk. A diabetes risk. Anyone getting older who is overweight knows this. ( Myself included)

I am working hard to reduce my weight. I am cheering along anyone else who also has a goal of being healthier. Not slagging them off, or making them feel bad.

Shame on you.

PinkiOcelot · 01/11/2019 22:26

I really can’t stand her, fat or thin.

Andysbestadventure · 01/11/2019 22:29

Praising her for it, the media obsessing over it, is fatshaming of a convoluted kind. Apparently she's currently only worth page time because she dropped two stone 🤷‍♀️ I can think of better things to be lauded for tbh.

justasking111 · 01/11/2019 22:29

I discovered her voice on the radio long before I saw what she looked like. It was her voice I loved, her body was irrelevant.

RuffleCrow · 01/11/2019 22:32

Exactly @MeClavdivs that's what matters. She's one of my all time favourite artists - I'd put her up there with the people she clearly looks up to musically - Dylan et al (and I'm not normally an 'easy listening' sort of woman).

RuffleCrow · 01/11/2019 22:34

Not that Dylan can sing for toffee but you know what i mean. Dusty Springfield or someone might be a better comparison.

FuntimeFranky · 01/11/2019 22:41

I understood what you were trying to say. You don’t deserve the rude comments just because you didn’t get your point across clearly in a post. Actually, it wasn’t that unclear, I saw where you were coming from.

soconfusing · 01/11/2019 22:46

Woah! I'm not slagging her off!
I still think she's amazing!

I love her for her song writing and singing ability and I believed she had/s a brilliant body positive image.
I understand the point people are making about her being a good role model for those trying to lose weight, but what about being a good role model for those who resonated with a talented individual who was all about the talent and nothing else?

My point is she wasn't another cut out like so many others in the industry.

Maybe be it's a bit cliche, the longer she's been in the industry the less she weighs...?!

But as someone mentioned, my 'unreasonability' is no better than the 'media's' coverage of ANYONEs weight loss or gain...
so I stand corrected.

(Also being slimmer doesn't necessarily mean she's living a healthier life and in less danger of strokes/heart conditions etc)

Thank you FuntimeFranky

Sunflower20 · 01/11/2019 22:53

Oh yeah I agree OP. She looks great but I prefer her fat.

Josette77 · 01/11/2019 22:53

Being thinner doesn't mean she's health, however statistically most people benefit from being at a lower weight. Not underweight, but within a healthy range. I don't see any of the coverage as fat shaming. I think that is people's own perceptions and issues if they see it that way.

GabsAlot · 01/11/2019 23:00

As long as shes happy thats what matters

what did happen with her husband anyway

ViciousJackdaw · 01/11/2019 23:01

Adele? Edgy?

Christ almighty, the woman is about as 'edgy' as Dido.

what about being a good role model for those who resonated with a talented individual who was all about the talent and nothing else?

Adele is not here to be a role model for anyone. Her job is singing, writing songs, stalking her exes and counting her money.

chrisski33 · 01/11/2019 23:01

Who cares. As long as she's happy and healthy leave her to it!

BillHadersNewWife · 01/11/2019 23:03

"lost her edge" wtf?? You're reducing her to her body and nothing else.

Aside from that, Adele's never been "edgy" has she? She's the epitome of popular.

WhineUp · 01/11/2019 23:03

Lol. No. I am cheering her on. Well done to Adele for bettering herself. And no, there's nothing positive about obesity. And at one point she was very, very obese.

elQuintoConyo · 01/11/2019 23:03

Woah there, someone left the doors to the Judgey Cow farm open Hmm

BillHadersNewWife · 01/11/2019 23:05

I believed she had/s a brilliant body positive image.

She was hugely overweight. That's neither brilliant nor positive.

Deal with it. It's fact..."she wasn't another cutout" she was all about talent" blah blah blah.

She patently was NOT if you can't deal with her changing her body shape. For you it was all about her being overweight and that being a "good thing" for other overweight women.

It's not a good thing to be overweight. It's a good thing to be talented....your body should not come into it.

ViciousJackdaw · 01/11/2019 23:05

Oh, and if you want someone who isn't 'another cut out', may I suggest Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Bjork, Enya, Elizabeth Fraser, Suzanne Vega, kd lang, Amy Macdonald, Tanya Donelly, Kim Gordon...

AFairlyHardAvocado · 01/11/2019 23:07

God we really can't win can we. Even when you're of the most successful female singer songwriters in the world.

I understand the point people are making about her being a good role model for those trying to lose weight, but what about being a good role model for those who resonated with a talented individual who was all about the talent and nothing else?

She is still all about the talent. It's people commenting on her weight loss who are making it not all about the talent.

"People who resonated with her being a talented individual and who is all about the talent and nothing else" wont need to take into account her weight in order to see her as a role model because by your definition they are about the talent and nothing else.

She's an incredibly talented musician, a mother, a daughter, a friend... and still her dress size changing is a hot topic and being subtly viewed as her not being true to herself and less of a role model.

I understand what you mean completely. How she would always protest to change her weight for anyone and vowed to not work with anyone who wanted her to conform. But personally I dont think those views have changed, I just think she has personally made a choice for herself. The problem with being over weight isn't how we look, feel or how confident we may be. We should all be confident in our own skin and that should be something taught in schools as well as mindfulness and life skills. I remember these was a story that the head mistress read out to the school in assembly when I was in primary about us all being different and that it was ok. And it is true, we are all different shapes, sizes, skin colour etc and that isn't a problem. But take for example a slim girl, you may think wow yeah she looks fabulous in her dress, heels and carries it all off together well. Visibly still she could look the healthiest of human beings and we wouldn't know what was on the inside. For all we know, Adele may have health complications and may have been advised from a health perspective to drop a few, or she may have felt unhealthy herself and there is even a chance she may have changed her perception whilst working in the industry on how she wants look. But the biggest fact is it's not about what we look like, it's who we are as a person that stands out the best. It wouldn't matter if Adele was a size 0 or a size 20 up, the fact is Adele's "edge" comes from her amazing vocal talents pulled off with her bubbly, funny, down to earth and realism of a personality. Her beauty shines through. I didnt even know she had lost weight until I read this and when I just looked on google at the Halloween photos, I had to blink twice!! She was unrecognisable to me! But she looks absolutely amazing and just as much as before. But with a healthier and happier glow. One thing I will say is, everyone knows after a break up how painful it is to our souls. It takes time to heal and a lot of self care and love is needed. We all focus on ourselves during this process, and a lot of us can agree we make changes to ourselves. Because it's part of our growth to become stronger. Her marriage is over to the man she bared a child with and took vows with. For her to take her pain and put it into something constructive and resulting in her feeling like the fucking queen she is, good for her! I admire that strength in her. So fuck weight, shape and size and here's to health, motivation and smiles xx
