I've got to go Ikea and it shouldn't be this hard.

I like the stuff ...but...
It's like planning an Arctic expedition I even factor in a snack for my old Dad so he doesn't flag half way through.
I only want some shelves and sandwich bags Sad
I want to give them my money, why do they make it so hard?
It's more endurance than Iron Man.
You shouldn't need the ordinance survey map just to grab some drinking glasses.
AIBU, it's too hard isn't it?

Wish me luck, remember me if I fall.

I just order online! We moved a year ago and a lot if furniture in the bedrooms is now from Ikea but I didnt set foot in the place! If they wont send it then i dont buy it.

WYP2018 · 01/11/2019 08:54

Godspeed.

CoraPirbright · 01/11/2019 08:56

The only time I ever go to Ikea is Monday morning at around 9.30 (I think you cant actually buy anything til 10). It’s virtually empty! Go then!

attillathenun · 01/11/2019 08:57

Good luck OP, I hope you make it.

My Ikea has a wonderful separate entrance to the marketplace section so you don't have to walk through the godforsaken place that is the showroom. I hope you are this blessed.

chemenger · 01/11/2019 08:58

If you know what you want it should take very little time to do that shop in Ikea. Go straight to the marketplace for the bags (in ours they are usually near the entrance) then use one of the terminals in the warehouse to find the shelves’ location and pick them up. Done in 20 minutes max. I’ve been in and out in under 10 minutes before. Don’t go on Saturday afternoon, go in the evening through the week when it’s quieter or if you can during the day in the week.

I just order online*

Last time I tried to order anything online the delivery fee was £40!

TheQueef · 01/11/2019 09:05

My DDad is wearing his Thick Socks and Soft Shoes.
He's a war baby though and has been through the mill.

They should put the couches half way for a rest stop.

I really want to look for bowls but I think that'd be a step too far.

Online want £35 squid for delivery! I'll get it on the bus first.

Erm, it isn't Confused.

In the nicest possible way, if you can't manage Ikea, you shouldn't be allowed out unaccompanied.

Look online to find out which part of the shop the things you want are in (glasses and sandwich bags will be in the market place, shelves in the storage display and then the warehouse - online tells you which aisle and whether or not in stock).

And there's the restaurant half way round to get your old dad a snack to keep his energy levels up.

Do not go at the weekend, whatever you do. Easy!

BarbaraofSeville · 01/11/2019 09:08

They do, they're outside the restaurant.

FanSpamTastic · 01/11/2019 09:08

I have gone in the exit before and walked through the tills into the warehouse to get the one thing I needed! You can even look up the shelf location online before you go.

HugeAckmansWife · 01/11/2019 09:09

ours has the cafe halfway round which is a genius idea

chemenger · 01/11/2019 09:09

Get a family card and your reviving coffee is free.

AsMuchUseAsAMarzipanDildo · 01/11/2019 09:10

They need to put the Daim bars for sale somewhere between the children’s room and the textiles...

TheQueef · 01/11/2019 09:12

In ours the cafe is at the start, which is problematic because I can't not have the free coffee so I Will need a wee.
Couches are at the start.
The bed displays are a contender but I daren't lay down with my dodgy hip and Ddads new knees we would need lifting gear Grin

The shelves are family price too so that's another £3 I'm saving.

Learn the shortcuts. Makes life so much easier.

TheWernethWife · 01/11/2019 09:15

Why all this angst about IKEA, I love going, we live 10 mins away from one. The store is well signposted, failing that, staff will tell you where things are. Been going so long now, know all the short cuts, you don't need to follow the arrows, just ask.

Hingeandbracket · 01/11/2019 09:16

Visiting IKEA is like a minor sentence for some trivial offence

Hingeandbracket · 01/11/2019 09:16

Why all this angst about IKEA because it is hell

ssd · 01/11/2019 09:17

Your dad's probably thinking 'christ she makes a fuss over IKEA, she should have seen the war'

bridgetreilly · 01/11/2019 09:19

What's hard about it? If you know what you want, look up the shelf locations at the start. You don't have to follow the route. If you don't want to need a wee, don't have the bloody coffee.

I wish more shops were like IKEA, to be honest. You can choose whether you want the slow, browsing route, or you can go directly to what you want, knowing it will be in the same place every time.

bsc · 01/11/2019 09:20

We've been twice this week. Ok, we spent slightly longer than I intended there both times but all was good.
I appreciate it's more of a trek for someone whose had two replacement knees!

MrsMozartMkII · 01/11/2019 09:20

Definitely learn the shortcuts!

If we don't hear from you in a few hours we'll send out the search party - I'm pretty sure all IKEAs have a dedicated crew, complete with lifting gear and picnic baskets Halloween Grin

mogtheexcellent · 01/11/2019 09:20

The only problem with my local ikea is the car park. It's truly the 7th circle of hell and people are often trapped for hours. Shock

You are going by bus you'll be fine.

PeterPumpkinEater · 01/11/2019 09:21

I got in an Ikea lift once. It went up 3 floors, then down 2. It opened on the other side snd I stepped into Narnia.
