Drinking full bottle of gin in one go?

GinGinGin3577 · 01/11/2019 03:29

Dh has drank a 70cl bottle of gin tonight. He was incredibly drunk when I found him coming out of the pub (don’t know what else he had there). He’s hiccuping a lot in his sleep and making funny noises, should I stay up and watch him or is this a fairly normal amount when binge drinking? I don’t know if I should be worried or not

Leave him with a bowl to chunder in. And make sure he doesn’t drive today.

OkPedro · 01/11/2019 03:45

Did he actually drink it in “one go”? Or over a few hours in the pub?
Make sure he’s in the recovery position. Hopefully he doesn’t piss the bed

Redglitter · 01/11/2019 03:46

Bloody hell a full bottle???? Does he often drink like that?

harrypotterfan1604 · 01/11/2019 03:52

I’d probably try and pop a towel under him incase he pisses the bed, a bowl to hurl into nearby and the recovery position that’s a lot of alcohol to drink in one night. I wouldn’t be very impressed at all, also it’s a weeknight doe she have responsibilities in the morning? A job? Kids to see to?

MaybeitsMaybelline · 01/11/2019 04:16

Since the serve gin in pubs in measures how much did that cost and how do you know it was a full bottle since you weren’t in the pub with him?

Nancydrawn · 01/11/2019 04:19

That's 28 units of alcohol. Like drinking more than nine large glasses of wine, or 14 pints. I'd stay up, at least for a while. And I'd be furious. (I'm not a pearl clutcher about drinking, but that's not okay.)

DonKeyshot · 01/11/2019 04:35

A bottle of gin? Jeez, I'd still be under a table in the pub. Shock

Take harrypotterfan's advice; recovery position, precautionary towel and bowl, and leave him to it.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 01/11/2019 08:10

It's not at all uncommon for an alcoholic but you don't mention that. Did he have the empty bottle in his possession while at the pub, so he might not have consumed all of it himself? Again, it's an alcoholic trick to carry drink with you and consume it secretly in the toilets, but that's a planned practice and not a one off. Either way, I hope he's ok this morning.

runawaywithusthissummer · 01/11/2019 08:12

Who was counting his drinks in the pub?

BritishHorrorStory · 01/11/2019 08:14

Also wondering this

easyandy101 · 01/11/2019 08:17

OP reads like he drunk the gin after the pub

lastqueenofscotland · 01/11/2019 08:20

That is an obscene amount of alcohol, and I say that as someone who really enjoys a drink.
A lad I went to uni with died after drinking a whole 70cl bottle of vodka...

DontLettuceBrexitLettuceRomain · 01/11/2019 08:40

That's 28 gin & tonics, or 14 doubles! fucking hell

recklessruby · 01/11/2019 08:42

It does seem a lot. I would be sick halfway through the bottle.
As pp have said best to put towels under him and a bowl nearby for the inevitable vomit.
And a nice cold glass of water nearby.
Shame he hasnt had the water before sleeping though.
I hope he doesn't have work/driving tomorrow. He ll be over the limit for ages!

Loopytiles · 01/11/2019 08:43

£100?!

LakieLady · 01/11/2019 08:45

In my mis-spent youth, a friend and I did a litre of gin in an evening. I stayed over and got the bus home the following morning.

It was possibly the worst journey of my life, despite it only lasting 40 minutes. I've had some dreadful hangovers in my time, but that was the worst by some margin. It took about 3 days before I felt properly ok.

He's going to be feeling grim this morning.

CottonSock · 01/11/2019 08:46

I hope you are both ok. You know that's not good right op?

RockinHippy · 01/11/2019 08:52

This🔝

It's not okay by far, that is an obscene amount & leaves him at risk from drowning in his own vomit. That puts pressure on you to take care of him as you are obviously trying to do now. That is not okay.

I'd have the hoover out in the bedroom first thing & anything else noisy & annoying I can think of. Payback time

myself2020 · 01/11/2019 08:57

a person who can drink a full bottle of gin (and potentially other alcohol !) in one evening has a serious alcohol problem. i would definitely watch him, and make sure he’s at the gp asap to do something about the alcohol problem

Squigean · 01/11/2019 09:00

Are you certain it was a whole 70cl bottle. That's an intense amount.

FilledSoda · 01/11/2019 09:01

The answer depends on what ' normal' is for him .
Someone with alcohol dependency could drink like this , not without consequences obviously but their body would be accustomed to that level of alcohol.
If he usually drinks much less then I would be concerned about choking .
Recovery position and keep checking on him.
He's going to feel dreadful later.

JollyHolly30 · 01/11/2019 09:03

What kind of bar who presumably value their license would keep serving someone until they'd consumed an entire bottle of gin?!

runawaywithusthissummer · 01/11/2019 09:03

OP reads like he drunk the gin after the pub

I thought that initially, but there was only reference to drinking gin. I think if it was after the pub the title would have been more along the lines of drinking a bottle of gin after getting drunk at pub, not just 'bottle of gin Iin one go'

Squigean · 01/11/2019 09:08

Yes I want too sure how to interpret the OP with when the bottle of gin was drank. Either way a bottle of gin is a huge anout of alcohol. Added on top drinking till incredibly drunk it's immense.

Grannybags · 01/11/2019 09:10

If he was very drunk when you ‘found’ him it suggests you didn’t know where he was, which is concerning. Had he been at work earlier or has he been out drinking all day? I drank a bottle of gin once but it was during a day at the races followed by Status Quo concert so we started drinking early and finished late, interspersed with food and soft drinks. Interestingly I stayed at a tipsy level all day, unlike colleagues who were drinking Prosecco. I hope your DH is ok and able to have a conversation about it. He shouldn’t have caused you to worry.
