Looking at the shower and it's covered in limescale again. Not looking forward to spending ages sorting it out again. What do you all use? Ideally looking for something that dissolves the limescale off the glass with minimal effort Blush

Squeegeeing every time and microfibre cloth for a rub down. Have cleaned it twice in five years with Fairy and vinegar

nestisflown · 30/10/2019 23:13

Ok I've used most of the products on this thread and found Ecover limescale spray to be the best. The ratings on Amazon are marginally better than Viakal too (I'd agree it's the superior product).

Since we live in a super hard water area, I've converted most of my local friends to Ecover. I only discovered their range of limescale products after using the ecover Power toilet cleaner to remove years of timescale build up when we moved into a new house, and where no other product worked. I sound like a sales rep Grin but I was converted at a vulnerable time when I had lost hope of ever removing our toilet timescale 😂😂

I use the Method glass cleaner to finish off the shower glass though as the Ecover limescale cleaner leaves streaks.

I’ve got stupidly hard water here and I don’t really clean it, just squeegee. I have one that suckers onto the inside of the screen

SynchroSwimmer · 30/10/2019 23:39

Currently experimenting successfully with vinegar and cheap Aldi dishwasher rinse-aid - diluted with water in an old spray bottle (cheaper than the £1 shower sprays that I was getting through at the rate of 12 a year (too much plastic)

I did contact that eco-pod company who sell Eco sachets that you top up with water using your old spray bottles - to save on plastic use, to ask them if they were developing a daily shower spray version - but nothing planned at the moment.

Sainsbury's daily shower spray immediately after I shower, wipe down right away with flannel til dry. I do nothing else & it sparkles!

Amberheartkitty · 30/10/2019 23:58

Eraser sponge if you don’t want to use strong detergents. It just wipes off the limescale.

Divebar · 31/10/2019 00:04

I try and limit the use of Viakal as much as possible as it seems horribly toxic. I currently use Method shower spray after every use and squeedgee but I’ve just taken delivery of Koh so will try that too. I’m happy to explore more Eco friendly ranges now when I can. My previous cleaner who was wonderful got our old limescaled screen shiny with very fine Brillopad which you would imagine would scratch but didn’t.

Another vote for Method shower spray, it's brilliant (and easy to do if the microfibre cloth is going to be a step too far for the rest of your family, OP!).

Although I'll be taking Viakal to the wheels on the shower screen now I've heard your horror story @Figmentofmyimagination!
(By the way I have an Ecozone anti-limescale ball in both my washing machine and dishwasher at all times, which seems to keep the fuzz away)

PigletJohn · 31/10/2019 00:25

A damp cloth.

We have a water softener.

nestisflown · 31/10/2019 08:15

@Divebar Ecover limescale spray is eco friendly and I've found it to work better than Viakal anyway.

WildCherryBlossom · 31/10/2019 09:15

Method daily shower spray after showers. Method glass cleaner used with Ecloths about once a week. It's over 10 years old and looks pretty good.

Divebar · 31/10/2019 09:47

@nestisflown thanks for the recommendation I shall give it a try. I’m trying a washing brand called Bio D who are British I think. You can take your bottle back to the shop and re fill it or the powders come in paper sacks. So far it’s ok but not enough on its own to tackle pen on white polo shirts ( because a branded white polo shirt is the best possible school uniform choice Hmm ). It’s all trial and error.

Paperdolly · 31/10/2019 09:47

Looked on YouTube for reviews of Koh. Not too impressed. 🙁

Divebar · 31/10/2019 09:49

Ps I do have a bit of guilt about buying eco cleaning products because I don’t actually do the cleaning. My cleaner is very committed to her chemicals.... it’s a real first world problem. Confused

Divebar · 31/10/2019 09:50

Koh is so far failing to tackle my oven door so me neither

HouseworkAvoider10 · 31/10/2019 09:55

Userzzzzz · 31/10/2019 10:03

So mine was always covered in limescale before we had a cleaner. She uses viakal and it is lovely looking now.

cochineal7 · 31/10/2019 10:20

Vinegar.

BMW6 · 31/10/2019 10:25

I use cheap lemon juice as not stinky as vinegar

SallyAnne89 · 31/10/2019 10:30

Vinegar spray and a cloth

SallyAnne89 · 31/10/2019 10:30

Sorry microfibre cloth

Wimpeyspread · 31/10/2019 12:43

White vinegar

StrawberrySquash · 31/10/2019 14:00

Ecover do a spray with a red lid which is excellent on limescale
