For me, it's Tescos.

Simple reason - I was on my way home from work last winter (office job, so well dressed) and popped into local large Tesco to pick up something. Was innocently wandering around when I got a tap on the shoulder - it appeared to be a staff member (so having my headphones in) didn't hear what he said, so just replied, 'No, I'm fine thanks'. He taps again and I took headphones out and he said 'We have a NO HOODS POLICY in the store'. I took my hood down but was secretly seething - FFS, it was sub zero outside and I'd just come inside.

So I'll do everything I can to avoid Tescos.

Any others?

Usually any retail that I've worked in and have had utter arsehole 'management' to deal with.

TulipsTwoLips · 30/10/2019 09:12

Lush. It gives me a headache within seconds.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/10/2019 09:13

Unless he was rude to you, what's the problem? They probably have lots of issues with stuff getting stolen and not being able to id the in securoty. Good to see a policy properly enforced, not just teenagers being picked on.

I hate Primark cos it's always so messy and chaotic, I can't get the pushchair round without running over sweaters and t shorts strewn on the floor

Siameasy · 30/10/2019 09:14

How stupid and petty. And what would the staff have done if you’d refused to remove the hood?!
My friend was stopped and guard asked to look in his bag. Friend said no, what power under law do you have to search me? They haven’t got any “extra” powers
I remember a MOS was rude to me in New Look and I boycotted it for about five years lol (this was in the 90s when it was on a par with Mark One)

Siameasy · 30/10/2019 09:14

Agree with Lush - rank

Shadowboy · 30/10/2019 09:15

Lush. It’s involvement in issues that I don’t agree with- hunt sabs, trans policy etc. Shops who get over invested in political/ideological issues generally don’t get my money.

MsMustDoBetter · 30/10/2019 09:15

Tesco.

For some reason the one near to me is staffed and frequented by people of utter ignorance and lack of manners.

Every time I go ao come away feeling annoyed.

ElusiveOrangeTwirl · 30/10/2019 09:15

Anywhere that upsells at the till. So I now avoid:

Savers
WH Smith
Claire's Accessories
Superdrug

RitaMills · 30/10/2019 09:15

Lush... pounced on as soon as I step into the shop and they never take ‘no thanks I’m just browsing’ as an answer. I hate hate HATE that.

lovelyupnorth · 30/10/2019 09:15

Too many to list.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 30/10/2019 09:16

Hoods are for outside.

I won't go in Wetherspoons. No way that tosser is getting my money.

SnugglySnerd · 30/10/2019 09:19

Claire's - plastic tat and weird special offers that don't make sense.
Primark - just too busy and stressful. T ends up like a jumble sale with everyone tearing things of hangers.
Sports Direct - only place I've ever seen someone littering inside a shop plus bad worker rights record.
WH Smith - has just gone to shit in last few years.
TK Maxx - everyone raves about it. I have yet to find a single thing in there that I want to buy.

SnugglySnerd · 30/10/2019 09:20

Excuse typos!

ISmellLikeSasquatch · 30/10/2019 09:20

John Lewis. Only placed an order once for a handbag, they took the money out of my bank but then emailed me to say the item was out of stock but swore I had not been charged, I had a right battle to get my money back, I emailed every day, had to send screenshots and bank statements to prove they had taken my money. I got it back in the end but the call centre are thick as pigshit, they were convinced that because I didnt have the item I was not charged for it despite me having proof that they had taken the money

Adoptthisdogornot · 30/10/2019 09:20

Amazon. Jeff Bezos is horrible and I don't want to help make him richer. They avoid tax. Their environmental record is horrible. They treat suppliers terribly. The treat staff terribly. They put honest hardworking sme's out of business. They have way too much influence with smart speakers which is worrying when it comes to democracy, free speech, fake news etc. They are starting to have influence way beyond commerce and I don't want a future for my children where Amazon control everything e.g. communication, utilities etc. The ease of one click shopping encourages pointless consumerism, waste, and yet more environmental damage. I could go on and on but I am well aware I'm swimming g against the tide on this!

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 30/10/2019 09:21

TKMax as everything is mixed up and it makes for a time consuming and frustrating shopping experience. Aldi as you can’t pack at the tills and they go so fast it makes you feel rushed out of the store.

EmmaJR1 · 30/10/2019 09:23

Lush was my first thought! Crappy harassment selling, crappy advertising campaigns and crappy politics!

Also not a shop but Quealys estate agent. We were looking to rent a gorgeous rental a few years ago and the crappy agent said in a really snobby tone, "you do realise you need to earn £25k between you to rent this house." I replied don't worry Karen we have £75k between us! Didn't bother renting with her and when we bought our house actively avoided them! Condescending cow!

HowlsMovingBungalow · 30/10/2019 09:24

I don't get the 'coffee culture' thing probably because I don't drink coffee so dont do all the high street coffee chains.

BlouseAndSkirt · 30/10/2019 09:25

Lush: headache, sneezing fits
Peacocks: smells chemically
Charity shops: smell musty and I am paranoid about bed bug transmission
Jigsaw: over enthusiastic assistants on commission, I presume.

Zebraaa · 30/10/2019 09:25

I think that’s a stupid reason not to go back to Tesco Confused

Mine is also Lush, the smell hurts my head.

quincejamplease · 30/10/2019 09:26

I do agree that John Lewis call centre is fucking useless.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 30/10/2019 09:26

Don’t most self employed people and businesses use tax rules to pay the minimum possible? Not sure why Amazon would be singled out for it.

HighlyUnlikely · 30/10/2019 09:26

WH Fucking Smith

I hate the way they hike the prices up in ‘captive audience’ situations like train and service stations. I seethed for some time over a really plain greeting card that cost over a fiver.

Siameasy · 30/10/2019 09:27

I hate coffee shops too Howls - I don’t drink it and their cups of tea are always watery

FrenchBoule · 30/10/2019 09:28

Starbucks and costa, for the amount of cups littering roadsides
