For me, it's Tescos.

Simple reason - I was on my way home from work last winter (office job, so well dressed) and popped into local large Tesco to pick up something. Was innocently wandering around when I got a tap on the shoulder - it appeared to be a staff member (so having my headphones in) didn't hear what he said, so just replied, 'No, I'm fine thanks'. He taps again and I took headphones out and he said 'We have a NO HOODS POLICY in the store'. I took my hood down but was secretly seething - FFS, it was sub zero outside and I'd just come inside.

So I'll do everything I can to avoid Tescos.

Any others?

Debenhams because I hate the awkward layout and horrible carpet!

Lk Bennett because they looked at me snootily the one time I did go in, and I hold a grudge :o

HappyHarlot · 30/10/2019 09:41

Lush, I hate the smell and since their anti-police campaign.

foxychox · 30/10/2019 09:42

Rymans - they screwed my dad over and didn't pay him for goods provided. They'll never get a penny of my money.

jillandhersprite · 30/10/2019 09:42

Tesco - the way they seem to swamp a small geographical location - so all the supermarkets in a 5 mile radius are either a tesco, tesco extra or tesco express. If you want something its either them, an overpriced corner shop or you have to do a car journey. Apparently its quite a deliberate strategy. Unfortunately the last 2 locations I've lived in - I've ended up in one of these 'tesco' spots.
I would love to have a convenient Morrisons, Sainsbury's or Asda!

GhoulieBat · 30/10/2019 09:43

Oh and Body Shop because they always come up and try to start a fake conversation with you. fuck off!

punter · 30/10/2019 09:43

M&S. I always go in hoping that I'll find something I like. Never do. So much stock spread over some many different spaces and items marked 'new in' look just like last year's offerings. Always queues at the pay desk.
Food is OK though

Jins · 30/10/2019 09:44

M&S Next and Superdrug for not meeting my needs
Boots for buying out all the local independent pharmacies meaning that you can’t buy cheap generic brands any more and are forced into buying over priced boots brand.
Pandora and Cath Kidston because I can’t imagine ever wanting something from there.

I am single handedly shutting down the high street.

OTOH I love TKMaxx and Lush.

Span1elsRock · 30/10/2019 09:45

Anything in the Arcadia group. Wouldn't put a penny into Phillip Green's pockets on principle.

Body Shop as they are on you the moment you walk in.

Chain coffee stores. Just bleugh.

Gertrudesgarden · 30/10/2019 09:45

Lush - because of the smells. Instant headache.
Fishmongers - because of the smells.
Body Shop - because I absolutely hate being pounced on the moment I go in the door. Piss off and let me browse in peace.

IWillJustKeepQuietThen · 30/10/2019 09:45

Primark.. Ours is like a jumble sale. People just unfold stuff and dump it anywhere..
Crap sizing.

On the odd occasion I want anything there I send my little sister for me. She loves that shop

PookieDo · 30/10/2019 09:47

Accessorize
The manager accused my DD of swapping sale signs around when they hadn’t made any effort to tidy up the shop and I complained about her being charged for something with a sale sticker on it
I got an apology from head office but I will never go back in
Snotty cow

Sparklingbrook · 30/10/2019 09:48

TK Maxx. It's just way too much trouble and I CBA to look through in case there's a single thing that I would love.

Aldi. Our local one is dark, depressing and I would rather go anywhere else and get some decent bread/fruit & veg.

BlingLoving · 30/10/2019 09:48

my local Clarks. Because the manager is a patronising, rude, misogynist wanker and I want his store to fail so that Clarks will realise it.

But sadly, he's been there at least 5 years (i've been boycotting for four) and doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

The way he talks to people is astonishing. But the final straw came when I saw him banging his head against a wall because an elderly woman had the temerity to ask him TWICE if they had blue shoes in size 6 on sale.

mrssoap · 30/10/2019 09:48

Tk Max, it's like a jumble sale in there!!

SerenDippitty · 30/10/2019 09:48

Lidl and Aldi. Just don’t get the hype.

Saddler · 30/10/2019 09:48

Lush full of leftie weirdos

Trethew · 30/10/2019 09:48

Lush

Babybel90 · 30/10/2019 09:49

Lush, instant migraine! Debenhams and Next, their stuff is just so dull and middle aged.

HandsOffMyRights · 30/10/2019 09:49

Primark, Topshop and any other shops that do not believe in giving girls and women access to single sex changing spaces.

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 30/10/2019 09:50

I don;t avoid any shop but then again I am slightly weird.I am a bit of a slob to be fair and its not often I dress up or even look remotely decent! But what I do love doing its perverse I know but it makes me happy,,,what I do love doing is going into what I call posh shops and having my own pretty woman moment! I take great pleasure in dropping by when I need a gift for someone or if I have seen something I want off the website and go to purchase it.It makes me so laugh to myself when they look me up and down( and yes it still happens the blatent snobbery in some shops) and I can see them wondering what the hell I am doing in there and what I am going to pinch!!!! They look me up and down and then rush over nearly killing themselves in order to protect their things Errr can I help you madam?( usually code for what the hell are you doing in here?!) OOhh yes love if you dont mind can I have X Y and Z please? Thank you!!! The facade soon drops at the till!!!! Pathetic really that I do this but I love it!!!!

LemonPrism · 30/10/2019 09:50

Oasis. I worked there as a teen and the manager was a sadist. Staff would gather round the one window in the fitting rooms to gasp for air as the heat was up so high you felt faint.

And she'd make me pester people so much they'd leave the shop.

CurryAndCobra · 30/10/2019 09:51

Lush. I hate it when they try and make you "try" stuff and breathe down your neck getting you to buy their tat. The wokeness is just an added bonus to avoid them. Twats.

LeslieYep · 30/10/2019 09:53

I avoided banana republic for years because I don't like bananas.

Went I finally went in I was annoyed because I liked their stuff despite the price!

Sports direct makes me feel anxious I think because of the towering shelves and close rails. WHSmith makes me feel similar.

Lush - police stuff and the stink.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 30/10/2019 09:53

M&S: Rude staff, long queues for premium food prices. No range of sizes. Jumble sale like sales rails. Selling multi buy offers reduced with short dates for more than they usually cost. Out of date sandwiches. I could go on forever. In the past I’ve gone in feeling cheerful and come out inwardly seething. My favourite had to be the checkout operator who asked when I declined a carrier bag if I was going to juggle. I said no but I was thinking of the environment, to which she told me I was denying a charity money Angry

fernandoanddenise · 30/10/2019 09:53

Primark for ethical reasons -
Claire’s because it’s tat
New Look, H&M and sadly Zara because the quality is shit and also ethical reasons
Also Aldi because I think it smells odd and I once bought some raspberries there that were rotting under the top layer.
Love EBay, Lidl and food markets where I feel I’m shopping ‘well’ cos things are covered in mud.
I appreciate none of these opinions stands up to much scrutiny!
