What should I take daily to increase my energy levels & improve general well-being? I am folate deficient too if that changes things. I would also like to lose weight and help my skin! Thanks :-)

Vitamin D always. Not just in the winter. Most people are seriously lacking.

B12 sublingual, any excess you wee out.

I buy everything on iHerb. Very cost effective.

SlideyFuckers · 29/10/2019 14:04

With D3, you should be looking at around 4000 IU a day. 1000 IU for children.

You would have to be taking 40,000 IU a day to overdose on it.

saladfingers · 29/10/2019 14:18

Magnesium, it's changed my life. Been taking for 2 years now and I have had very few menopausal symptoms since. I have so much more energy. Take 400mg before bed.

ThreeLittleDots · 29/10/2019 14:29

For those taking magnesium - which form? I have the magnesium & B6 tablets from Sainsburys which seem to be mainly magnesium hydroxide, but taking 375mg a night gives me awful morning diarrhoea... any better alternative?

megletthesecond · 29/10/2019 14:38

A multi vit and mineral from Boots. Mostly 100% RDA's.
I should probably change to a menopausal one but I can't find one that is small enough to easily swallow.

AnuvvaMuvva · 29/10/2019 14:39

Menopace
Vitamin D
Iron
St John's Wort
Biotin

One of these makes me feel amazing but I'm not sure which one.

Pinkblueberry · 29/10/2019 14:42

I take a hair, skin and nails tablet that doubles up as a multi vit - I don’t know how much of a difference it really makes to be honest, exept that it definitely makes my nails harder (probably what I’m least bothered about...) Still I live in hope that one day I’ll wake up with thick, glossy hair as a result Grin but I definitely agree with a pp that diet is most important unless you’re medically deficient in something.

RedRec · 29/10/2019 14:45

Effervescent Vitamin C.
Vitamin D all year round.
Calcium.

CheerioGirl · 29/10/2019 14:54

B12 + folic acid doctor told me they bounce off each other I took it during pregnancy.

Also vitamin c to keep the colds away. It really does work for me if a cold is starting to set in 1L of orange juice & vitamin C works

Lellochip · 29/10/2019 14:59

@ThreeLittleDots Glycinate is meant to be the gentlest on the bowels I believe

Lellochip · 29/10/2019 15:02

Vit D
B12
Folic acid
K2
Magnesium

And iron every so often until it upsets my stomach then I give up

FiddleFigs · 29/10/2019 15:03

Recently had my bloods done by the GP and was told I need to take:

  • Vit D for life (I'm of south asian ethnicity, and according to my GP, need all the Vit D help I can get!)
  • Iron
  • Vit C

I already take a Hair, skin & nails chewy vit, and I'm considering magnesium too.

FelicityFeather · 29/10/2019 15:05

I take 4000iu vitamin D each day. I had a blood test a month ago and was deficient at 28. 4 weeks later after religiously taking the vitamin D, I'm at a level of 73, so it does work and relatively quickly. I take it with vitamin K as this puts it where it's supposed to go.

Shannith · 29/10/2019 15:06

Vit D, B12, magnesium, calcium, folic acid, thiamine, iron, general multivitamin.

All prescribed.

Cocolapew · 29/10/2019 15:06

Menopause support
Vit D3
Magnesium
Vit C

Theresnobslikeshowbs · 29/10/2019 15:11

Magnesium, zinc and b6- read it on here to help clear spots, I’m on week 4, and haven’t had any new spots and old spots cleared up, missed the tablets Sunday and Monday and woke today to 3 spots! It really works!
Also:-
Calcium
Hair and nails all in one
Multivitamin
Vitamin C

They are my daily!

FreezerBird · 29/10/2019 15:18

Can anyone recommend a calcium supplement that isn't massive and hard to swallow? Taking osteocare at the moment and break it in two, but still really hard to choke down!

I can take large tablets no problem if they're coated, but these are really chalky.

Sgtmajormummy · 29/10/2019 15:21

Multicentrum for women 50+
Devil’s claw for joint pain.
Every 2 days a sachet of magnesium and potassium.

granadagirl · 29/10/2019 15:29

Zinc
d3(@ 1000, maybe I should take more ?)
Magnesium ancient mineral spray
B50
Probiotic

granadagirl · 29/10/2019 15:32

Just to say, but the best you can afford
Good quality

Re magnesium
Cheaper ones will give you diarrhoea

Idontwanttotalk · 29/10/2019 15:44

"I am folate deficient too if that changes things"
If your folate deficiency has been diagnosed by a GP then they will prescribe the amount you need.

I once started taking a variety of vitamins and minerals but, after I had a blood test for Vitamin D at the doctors', the GP telephoned and asked if I was taken Folic Acid and then told me not to as levels were too high. Check on toxicity levels of vitamins and minerals before taking supplements.

alreadyinchristmasmood · 29/10/2019 15:47

Vit c 1000 mg, magnesium and some supplements for hair which have really helped.

AnuvvaMuvva · 29/10/2019 15:55

@alreadyinchristmasmood Please tell me which hair supplements have worked! I want to buy some but am overwhelmed by the choice.

alldaywatchingdragrace · 29/10/2019 16:06

Depends on your diet really - you should be getting all your vitamins from your food unless you have a medical issue - in which case your doctor would prescribe this. As a vegetarian it is recommended that I take B12 and a fish oil substitute - but I would do your research first before taking something someone on the internet tells you to take... Also Quackwatch is a good place to research.

SteamedPotatoes · 29/10/2019 16:22

Vit B12 & D & K as sprays.
One Brazil nut a day.
One iron tablet & iodine.
Vit C as effervescent tablet.
