To make him use a different laundry bin?

DH has revolting feet. His socks reek. I can smell his feet across the room
He doesn’t wash them properly as he can’t reach due to back back
The socks pollute they entire laundry basket. So...AIBH to buy a separate (maybe wyth yellow and black hazard tape) laundry bin for his socks?

That's disgusting. I would have him put them in a bucket of water with sanitizer in it and then he can wash them himself.

Andysbestadventure · 27/10/2019 19:36

A big pinch of bicarb in every shoe. Thank me later 👌

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 27/10/2019 19:38

Bicarbonate I can do...pronto

He baths/ showers at least once a day - just cursed with these awful hooves

He should get one of those brush things that go in the bottom of the shower, you rub your foot back and forth in it and the bristles scrub your feet. He can drizzle some sort of shower gel or something on them while he is doing it.

Junkmail · 27/10/2019 19:41

Does he need to go to the doctor about it? Does he have some kind of fungal infection. Could he sit down to wash his feet? I don’t think that he (and you!) should just be tolerating it if his feet smell that bad. That’s not normal!

Cryalot2 · 27/10/2019 19:51

Check he has no infections that could smell.
Get a lidded nappy bucket and put his socks in that .
Get in the shower with him and give a hand. Wink
Just be thankful that is all .

Odor Eaters in all my DH's shoes has helped with his stinky feet. But I don't think they're anywhere as bad as you're describing. I would use a separate plastic bin that can be washed out now and again. With a closing lid. For his socks.

ActualHornist · 27/10/2019 19:57

I mean, it's not out of order - but if he struggles to wash them then get him a brush on a stick or like @NeverHadANickname says, one of these.

Even with a bad back he can still get his feet clean.

Gardai · 27/10/2019 20:01

Leave him because that’s rank.

Lovemydaughterx · 27/10/2019 20:06

Has he been to the doctors? I would also get him some new shoes.

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 27/10/2019 20:10

He’s got some urea cream - a brush on a stick sounds marvellous. Maybe o could fashion one with some kitchen tongs and one of those scrubby nylon things that Take a Break suggest “could make a charming fascinator for weddings”

Shower puff I think they’re called. Used to feature heavily in Christmas toiletries gifts

Does he have a lot of hard/dead skin on his feet? A friend had the rankest feet ever (you couldn’t sit in the same room if she had her shoes off) and her feet sweated really badly. She would wash them, change socks, powder them but nothing worked. One day she saw a chiropodist who took off a ton of dead hard skin and her feet were better straight away. She knows she needs to see the chiropodist again when they start getting stinky again.

Dubbadubbadumdum · 27/10/2019 20:19

Apple cider vinegar, get him to bathe his feet using it, and throw his socks into the machine with vinegar too. It kills bacteria and works wonders with fungal skin infections.

BluebellCockleshell123 · 27/10/2019 20:21

My DH had utterly revolting smelling feet for while. Sent him to the doctor and turned out he had a fungal infection. Got tablets and they are fine now. Worth checking out!

MitziK · 27/10/2019 20:38

If it is a genuine disability issue, why not help him?

If he's a skanky minger, then he needs to get over himself and use a shower foot scrubber and some soap like everybody else with a bad back who doesn't actually need help with personal care.

Get them clean (I suggest getting Hibiscrub from Boots) and then get him off to a Podiatrist, as they'll be able to identify any underlying issues, check for blood flow, sort out the nails (as I bet 90% on the stench is underneath warty hooves), etc. If he has diabetes, that would be even more important.

Bin all existing socks and footwear. It's worth every penny to get rid of the existing bacteria and fungus reservoirs. Wash new socks at 40 with bio powder and Dettol wash sanitiser, no softener and ensure they are absolutely dry.

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 27/10/2019 20:39

I try not to get close but GP gave this idea cream. A friend got some powder off the internet which kills dead skin. Sounds dodgy but you put it in socks and he swore by it but I can’t remember what it’s called. It’s from America.

Im sorry if im being dim but why dont u help him wash his feet if he genuinely cant do it. Shaming im foe something he cant prevent and not offering help is a bit mean

DontLettuceBrexitLettuceRomain · 27/10/2019 20:53

Sorry if I'm being dim but why do they smell? Surely the soap running down in the shower washes them? Does anyone actually scrub their feet in the shower?

ChateauMyself · 27/10/2019 20:58

Stop spending money on random lotions and potions.

Make an appointment with a podiatrist - they can help sort out his feet or advise you to see GP.
