Prepared to be flamed for this because of waste.

Basically I don’t eat everything on my plate. Sometimes I do but a lot of the time I don’t.

I do care about wasting food but then I think about the masses of waste that goes on in farming, factories, supermarkets etc.

And if you think about how much money is spent on the dieting industry, it seems to be a paradox in terms of expense/waste.

"Ridiculous suggestion. Just put less on your plate.

Restaurants, family gatherings, dinner parties etc.

How on earth can I put less on my plate?"

Absolutely, OP, I agree with you and do the same myself. I find that if I, as other posters have suggested, put a small amount on my plate, I am subjected to an assault of unwanted advice about eating too little. However, nobody notices if I have just a little less than they have and leave a bit of each item.

Also, I don't eat much out but when I do I try to order, say, olives for a starter and a starter (or two) for the main course.

My family are all overweight and I do not want to be. They refuse to eat sensibly. The other day I packed a sandwich for my DH and two pieces of cake meaning to say, 'eat the one you want or a bit of both.' I forgot and he ate the lot. He cannot leave food as his mother (long gone) would have told him off and he cannot get into the habit of being responsible about his own eating. My children have inherited his genes and learned his habits.

I do not like to waste food and throw next to nothing away. When I am on my own I do not have to resort to subterfuge and can eat my Weetabix for lunch without being criticised.

You can eat as much or as little as you want. Why would you throw away the food though? Just refrigerate or freeze it and have it at another time, just common sense really.

The shake diet is a quick fix diet! As you said yourself, you’ve consistently put the weight back on again when you’ve come off the diet.

I never said I put weight back on. I have maintained my weight consistently since 2017 and despite a few weeks of eating carbs due to social events and bereavement, I have done very well, thank you very much.

I know what I can and cannot eat and I don’t pile my plate full of rubbish. Weight varies daily for every individual.

fortunes have been made selling diet books with advice stupider than that in the OP.

just say 'no thank you, that's enough' if you are about to served too much. Don't be so bloody wet.
