... to think that putting a stemmed glass on a coaster is idiotic

I took in a package for the neighbour today and when I took it over she offered me a glass of wine... yes please. She then rushed at me with a coaster when she noticed I was about to put it down on the side table.

Coasters are to prevent condensation from marring the table. The foot of a stemmed glass will not have condensation. All a coaster does when a stemmed glass is involved is to make an unstable target for putting down something that is already top-heavy. It really is alarmingly stupid.

Alarmingly stupid? Really?

Most people don't spend so much time analysing coaster usage for different beverages or care about the origins of coasters.

BlouseAndSkirt · 25/10/2019 18:51

How alarmed should we be? Halloween Shock

BareKneesDeCourcy · 25/10/2019 18:51

Police. Now.

Fatted · 25/10/2019 18:52

Would you be paying to replace her wine stained table?

MuchBetterNow · 25/10/2019 18:54

What a pointless, nasty thread. I actually hope you're a troll because if you're real that's desperately shabby of you.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 25/10/2019 18:54

Yes, someone who invited you in and gave you a glass of wine, clearly is alarmingly stupid.

I would have left you on the step!

BIWitch · 25/10/2019 18:55

Grin @NoProblem123

Elbowedout · 25/10/2019 18:56

Move house immediately.

Danglingmod · 25/10/2019 18:56

"Unstable target"? Are her coasters made out of cobblestones?

stucknoue · 25/10/2019 18:58

I put glasses on coasters so they don't mark the wood

Jiggeriepokerie · 25/10/2019 18:59

Does the coaster turn the wine into vinegar? Nope? Just bloody drink it, say thanks and return to your coasterless safe place.

Geschwister4 · 25/10/2019 19:02

Me too. I am with #Team Coasters all the way

TitianaTitsling · 25/10/2019 19:02

I can only hope no children or animals witnessed the atrocity! #saynotocoasterskids

HollowTalk · 25/10/2019 19:04

I'd be really pissed off if I offered someone I thought of as a friend, albeit a casual friend, a glass of wine in my own home and she sat there in judgement over something so bloody stupid. I'd really think less of her.

PortiaCastis · 25/10/2019 19:05

Oh FGS !
Coasters are to stop surfaces getting marked with alien snobbery

MrsLinManuelMiranda · 25/10/2019 19:05

Bloody hell I must have been absent from college on the day that they gave instructions on coaster usage, been using them for all cups and glasses for years.
Also I see the dictionary definition is completely wrong!

Chloemol · 25/10/2019 19:06

I use coasters for everything, but in the great scheme of things does it matter! You got a drink, move on, each to their own, live and let live and so on

FavouriteSoul · 25/10/2019 19:11

Is this meant to be the Friday night funny thread?

You failed, OP, you sound like a sneery snob.

Apolloanddaphne · 25/10/2019 19:11

I use coasters for all beverages, hot and cold, and in varying receptacles. I don't want my furniture stained or scratched.

Sparklingbrook · 25/10/2019 19:12

#Team Coaster here

RightYesButNo · 25/10/2019 19:12

hang on, your neighbour gave you wine for taking in a parcel and you're complaining? :D

Yes, in honor of OP, I think “the type of CF who would complain about free wine” is definitely a thing in my head now.

RegretnaGreen · 25/10/2019 19:13

Friday night first world problem alert peeps!

SchadenfiendeUnmortified · 25/10/2019 19:14

If you will accept a glass of wine from Hyacinth, you only have yourself to blame.

OneHanded · 25/10/2019 19:16

Yeah a cold wine\cider still forms condensation that runs down the stem and leaves a ring without a coaster!

thetardis · 25/10/2019 19:18

the type of CF who would complain about free wine

i briefly gave out free wine for a living (along with other duties). no-one except me had to wash up the glasses with a hangover the next morning, and they were eminently polite about the free wine :D
