AIBU to be mad I've got this weird sore throat, cold-not-cold thing?

As I work from home and have generally been a hermit for the last week or two due to SPD I thought I'd managed to avoid this weird lurgy doing the rounds.
But no, alas. It clobbered me this afternoon and now I'm well and truly broken, whimpering on the sofa (for effect, as well as in hope of tea and biscuits, although this is unlikely seeing as I'm currently home alone).

What IS it? It's not really a cold and it's definitely not flu because I can still function enough to rant on here about it, but it's like a horrid milder combo of both, just enough to make feel terrible so I can't do things, but not enough to take to my bed in the manner of prone Victorian lady.

That's it really. I'm very cross that I appear to have acquired it and that I can't really take much for it being 29 weeks pregnant. If anyone has any wonder cures, do share and in the meantime I'll use Mumsnet as my outlet to air my grievance over this until DH gets home and I can moan at him Grin.

Anyone else suffering? Join me, you know what they say, misery loves company.

Just recovering from this now OP you have my sympathy.
The only possible cure for me was binge watching netlix with the duvet on the sofa for two days, interspersed with veg soup and hot chocolate. I recommend the same ❤️

TellySavalashairbrush · 25/10/2019 17:29

Sure you can take paracetamol in pregnancy. I agree with a couple of duvet days, soups and warm drinks. Get well soon Flowers

BlodwynBludd · 25/10/2019 17:33

Feeling your pain. My throat is just starting to go, am 37 weeks pregnant and SAHM to a 2 yr old!

Thatmustbemyname · 25/10/2019 17:37

You have my sympathy for the SPD alone, that's hideous. As for the cold-not-a-cold, drink lots, binge watch TV and use it as an excuse to properly rest.

IggyAce · 25/10/2019 17:37

You have my sympathy I’m just getting over it too, the sore throat lasted 5 days. I pretty much drank tea and watched TV for 2-3 days.
Recommend sleeping propped up because my nose would block when I laid down.

Allinadaystwerk · 25/10/2019 17:39

I have this too coupled with a dry cough that I have stick my tongue out to muster. I have no dh so I am home with my 11yr old DS who is only Interested in what's for dinner and whether he can turn the spare room into a gaming room. I'm trying not to swear at him. Cough cough

Allinadaystwerk · 25/10/2019 17:39

Sunflowersok · 25/10/2019 17:39

I’ve had it for two weeks and now I’m just waiting to see the doctor because my throat feels like I’ve swallowed glass Confused

Chesntoots · 25/10/2019 17:40

I've got this at the moment. Feel sorry for myself, but not poorly enough to go full settee/ Netflix... It's rubbish!

ClientListQueen · 25/10/2019 17:40

3-4 weeks for me now. Started with a sore throat then lost my voice, turned into a snotty/coughing/tickle throat cold, now back to pouring nose and sore throat. Wish it would just FO already

Bellasblankexpression · 25/10/2019 17:42

That sounds like solid medical expertise @Mooey89 I shall follow this regimen closely.

@TellySavalashairbrush yep I've taken some today it's helped with the weird head fog, not so much the sore throat. I'm wondering if gargling with delicious, delicious definitely not vom inducing TCP will be okay.

@BlodwynBludd oh dear god, I am so sorry. You poor thing. I'm glad to hear you're on the mend but it must have been a grim week for you.

@Thatmustbemyname thank you for the sympathy, it's not my favourite, I'm not going to lie. I feel like a shuffling little old woman even without the cold not cold, so have been a real delight for the last few weeks anyway. DH is in for a real treat with this added bonus on top!

@iggyace thank you, you also sound like someone with sage advice there - this TV bingewatching sounds like it might be the only sensible way to go. Now I just need to find something I actually want to watch. Glad to hear you're on the mend too and the consensus seems to be around 5 days instead of weeks or something.

2 weeks for me too. Thought I was getting over it, then back with a vengeance. Really fed up now.

mummmy2017 · 25/10/2019 17:43

Worked last two days, each afternoon asleep on sofa. Woke today and making any move from bed not an option.

Marmite27 · 25/10/2019 17:44

You’ll get a horrible cough in a few days. It’s weird, I started with a sore throat and extreme fatigue. I sounded terrible but didn’t feel that bad (other than tired), didn’t even take a paracetamol as didn’t have head aches. Did I mention I was tired?

Two weeks later I feel almost human again.

Bellasblankexpression · 25/10/2019 17:55

oh crikey, two weeks! that sounds hideous.
arghhh I really don't want a cough, but it doesn't sound like I'm going to have much say in the matter
Maybe I'll brave the TCP

I had no idea this was doing the rounds - I've been like this since Monday. Knackered, sore throat, pressure in the head, slightly chesty, slightly snotty, the odd sneeze - not enough to say 'I have a rotten cold' but it's definitely there.

Reading this makes me feel a little better though, I can now legitimately say 'I've got that bug that's going round'

Brew and lovely comfy clothes for everyone and let's all hope the weekend is as easy as possible.

Bellasblankexpression · 25/10/2019 18:13

yes you can @viciousjackdaw switch on netflix and pull up a blanket!

Migrainefun · 25/10/2019 18:20

Currently in bed with actual flu! I never have a day in bed as I'm a stay at home mum to 3 under 4 but DH is home and I haven't moved all day! I keep whining like a sad dog whenever he tiptoes up the stairs to check I'm not dead. He needs to know that I am actually dying so I am being very dramatic.

Migrainefun · 25/10/2019 18:21

Get well soon by the way, I've found that drinking warm drinks is the only way with this throat, cold drinks are devil's juice! I couldn't do this pregnant, so hats off to you!

Bellasblankexpression · 25/10/2019 18:37

@migrainefun YOU POOR THING. Your approach to being ill sounds exactly like mine, I approve. Melodrama is a requirement. Have you had it long? I hope you have a speedy recovery.

I'm just about to make a lemon, honey and hot water. Man I miss the whisky element of a medicinal hot toddy. Last time I had something like this, they properly sorted it out, I'm sure of it (or maybe just knocked me out so I couldn't feel it? Either way!).

OP posts:
Bellasblankexpression · 25/10/2019 21:05

Can report that lying on the sofa sipping lemon and honey in hot water, whimpering intermittently and watching Netflix has helped a tiny amount.

Going to give TCP a go. Wish me luck - that stuff tastes of pure evil.

Migrainefun · 25/10/2019 22:11

A day in bed for me has made me feel so much better! Our laziness has paid off!

ClientListQueen · 25/10/2019 22:43

I keep thinking I'm fine and then cough a load of gunk up. Grim

Coffeeisnecessary · 25/10/2019 22:54

I think I have this too! Soluble paracetamol gargled and then swallowed helps with the sore throat. Lots of sympathy to you though, really not fun when you are pregnant.

Majorcollywobble · 25/10/2019 22:59

Weird concoction called Sandersons Theoat Specific mixture ( tastes vile) always sorts me out . A good gargle with that at the first sign of a sore throat works like magic for me.
You can dilute it but that’s for wimps . Taken neat - you swallow a small amount - kills all known germs.
