AIBU to be mad I've got this weird sore throat, cold-not-cold thing?

As I work from home and have generally been a hermit for the last week or two due to SPD I thought I'd managed to avoid this weird lurgy doing the rounds.
But no, alas. It clobbered me this afternoon and now I'm well and truly broken, whimpering on the sofa (for effect, as well as in hope of tea and biscuits, although this is unlikely seeing as I'm currently home alone).

What IS it? It's not really a cold and it's definitely not flu because I can still function enough to rant on here about it, but it's like a horrid milder combo of both, just enough to make feel terrible so I can't do things, but not enough to take to my bed in the manner of prone Victorian lady.

That's it really. I'm very cross that I appear to have acquired it and that I can't really take much for it being 29 weeks pregnant. If anyone has any wonder cures, do share and in the meantime I'll use Mumsnet as my outlet to air my grievance over this until DH gets home and I can moan at him Grin.

Anyone else suffering? Join me, you know what they say, misery loves company.

I had this three babies and pregnancies on the trot - along with SPD with the second - so I feel your pain . Or felt should I say,

I found lemonade warmed in the microwave with a sprinkle of turmeric or ginger was very good for the horrid sore throat. It felt like a safe lemsip

Who’d be a poorly pregnant woman?! Hope you feel better soon

Aww, I'm sorry you're feeling rubbish. I hope you feel better soon. Myself, my partner and DSS all had this last week. I know exactly what you mean! We felt awful - it felt much worse than any other cold I've had - but not bad enough to be flu. Like, I could get everything done that I need to do, but there was nothing in the world I wanted to do more than just lie on the sofa and do nothing.

I'm still recovering from this 2 weeks in but what's helped me sleep without choking on phlegm or coughing my guts up through the night is vicks vaporub all over my throat and chest and soles of my feet then put socks on. Honest!!

2nd day in bed here with it.. about to knock myself out with nightnurse. Wish you betterFlowers

I got this three weeks ago and am only just starting to feel better tho my lungs are still a bit fucked.

Started as tonsillitis with vvv painful spots on the back of my throat. Then I lost my voice. That was week one.

Then it turned into a cold and chesty cough. Really annoying cough that made me wake up at night. Week two spent coughing my guts up and occasionally pissing myself at the same time, such was the force of my cough.

Then I was just feeling dreadfully droopy and lacklustre and exhausted. That was the third week.

My advice is rest now as much as you can as three weeks of feeling shit is no fun.

I'm not pregnant but I do have my first virus of 2019.

Since leaving pregnancy, smoking and generally neglecting myself behind, I don't catch viruses/ colds often at all. Good thing too because the norm is that they floor me.

But I have one. It's not incredibly shit compared to usual either. But I still don't like it. Mild razorblades in the throat, coughing, mildly bunged up Bose, sniffles, sneezing but the headache is very nasty.

Ever since the great virus of 2006 I've gone back to basics when a virus strikes: plain, boring paracetamol; vicks vaporub; plenty of cold water; honey and lemon to drink; fresh air either through getting out whilst wrapped up or through an open window.

I'm also a fan of those headache coolstrips which stick to your forehead. And total Netflix and chill

Bellasblankexpression · 26/10/2019 05:28

Thank you for the well wishes, and sorry to hear so many other people have been suffering too!
I am awake at 5.30 with a blocked up nose but have just discovered some Breathe Right strips in the drawer so am going to give those a go! I need sleep, dammit!

Ugh yes! My son had it for weeks and I thought I'd escaped it but no... I got it on Monday 😩

OwlBeThere · 26/10/2019 06:42

For about 2 weeks now I wake up every morning feeling grotty and like I’m getting a cold, a bit sniffly and hot and sore throat...then by lunch it’s gone. So I have Morning Cold. And I’m not even pregnant.

My headache broke last night, slept like a baby.
Still ache, but feels so much better.
