To tell you about my Botox? I swear it’s not what you think...

Lurker mostly.. I have seen a fair few threads on Botox recently and really wanted to tell people about my Botox experience

I’m mid 20s and have recently had botox injections through the NHS. I’ve suffered with hyperhidrosis for many years. I’ve suffered through doctors not taking it seriously, doctors not knowing much about the condition, being prescribed off-label medication that had horrible side effects.

Botox has been a real life changer. I have gone from changing my clothing - tops, bras, knickers several times a day to being able to wear colours other than black as I’m not worried about sweat patches.

I am sharing this hoping it might help someone suggest Botox to their doctor as it has improved my mental health and quality of life immensely. Just thought I’d see what people think about Botox when used for something other than your typical cosmetic procedure .

I’ve only ever had Botox in my vulva to try and ease problems with my episiotomy scar.

They refused point blank to put the rest in my face. Sad

WoollyFoolly · 23/10/2019 22:50

This is what Botox was developed for, the muscle freezing was a side effect that has now taken over!
I’m glad you have found something that helps.

Ahundredpercentthatbitch · 23/10/2019 22:52

What a relief it must be for you. Do you have to fund it yourself? Is it v expensive?

megletthesecond · 23/10/2019 22:54

I've had it for anal fissures. Yay Hmm.

I'd love it in my scowly, tired face.

Yubaba · 23/10/2019 22:56

My mum had Botox for her migraines and it was a game changer, she has it every 3-4 months and has made such a difference to her life. It took a very long time to get approved though.

Brackish · 23/10/2019 22:56

A friend of mine has it in her face to help with nerve pain after a root canal procedure went wrong and left her in agony for months. I think it’s saved her sanity, if not her life. Good it’s worked for you.

Love51 · 23/10/2019 22:57

I always thing of it as a cerebral palsy treatment first and a professionally good-looking aid second.
Not that I've ever had it, having neither CP nor a profession in beauty.

I didn't think of it in relation to your condition, OP, but I'm glad it is so versatile!

RedSheep73 · 23/10/2019 22:58

Good for you. I hear a lot about it being used for headaches, with mixed results. I hate the look of people with frozen faces though.

LolaBelle99 · 23/10/2019 23:01

It’s great hearing all the different things it’s been used to treat. I didn’t know it wasn’t originally used as a cosmetic treatment.

@Ahundredpercentthatbitch I get it through the NHS. It hasn’t been easy and it’s taken about 4 years of fighting for it and trying every other option. My doctor is amazing and is happy for me to try it anywhere that will help. So far I’ve had armpits done regularly and just had my under-breast area done. Working up the courage to have my groin done next.. Envy

Even with numbing cream it is so painful I couldn’t imagine getting it done in my face! ( @megletthesecond or an anal fissure you poor thing)

megletthesecond · 23/10/2019 23:03

It was under a general lola. No way did I want to be conscious during that procedure.

LolaBelle99 · 23/10/2019 23:09

@megletthesecond don’t think I’d fancy being conscious for having fissures checked never mind treated Blush

Its amazing stuff, isn't it. I have a movement disorder and have Botox every 3 months. (I don't usually mention it because people always look at my wrinkly face and crack the same joke....)

AlmostAJillSandwich · 24/10/2019 00:16

Apparently it can be really good for stress incontinence too.

Regretfulandstupid · 24/10/2019 02:39

I have Botox in my face Lola, and in my cheek muscles to stop grinding my teeth. The cheek muscles hurt like a 5/10 but the rest is a pin prick. Honestly! 2/10 it's worse when you're on your period, were you?

RosieMapleLeaf · 24/10/2019 02:46

My DD had strabismus (crossed eyes) with vision complications and her doctor used Botox as a "test" to see whether surgery would be helpful for her. Her eyes straightened right up AND she could actually read for the first time in well over a year. She had the Botox three times before she finally had the surgery. It literally changed her life.

leafyygreens · 24/10/2019 03:17

I have it for chronic migraine, took a long time for nhs to approve it but it’s honestly made a huge difference to my quality of life. 36 injections but it’s worth it!

Nat6999 · 24/10/2019 03:32

I've had it for overactive bladder, a cystoscopy & then they inject your bladder with the botox, it stops it contracting & stops me from wetting myself at least 4 times a day. I haven't had any for ages & my bladder is back to not working properly, I'm waiting to see a consultant to start the injections again.

HeyMrWhite · 24/10/2019 03:42

I’m glad it works for you. I get it as a wrinkle treatment in my face lol

lunababoona · 24/10/2019 03:44

I had this done on my hands several months ago via health insurance, the pain was overwhelming and sadly the results are awful. I'm now going to have to look at other options as it's not made my situation any better.

Sallyseagull · 24/10/2019 06:48

I'm so pleased for you, it's great to hear a success story and that you're feeling so much more yourself now.

Ahundredpercentthatbitch · 24/10/2019 09:58

I did not know it could treat migraines. I’m very interested in this because I get terrible migraines. How does it work? Where do they inject?

LolaBelle99 · 24/10/2019 10:52

@Regretfulandstupid I see lots of people saying the pain is minimal in their face. I wasn’t on my period. I’m not sure if it’s the location or what but my god it was painful!

@RosieMapleLeaf how wonderful for your daughter!

@lunababoona do you suffer excessive sweating? I’m sorry to hear it didn’t help Sad

Have the heating on to dry some laundry and even my shins are sweating - though my pits and underboob and nice and dry Grin

Ariadnepersephonecloud · 24/10/2019 10:55

I'm all in favour of botox for whatever you want it for, just waiting for a cruelty free version and then I'm in 😁

LolaBelle99 · 24/10/2019 13:03

@Ariadnepersephonecloud me too! And clearly it’s used for far more than I realised!

I must admit I love seeing people’s faces when I say I’ve had Botox and watching them scan my face to work out where I’ve had it Grin

Blowandgo · 24/10/2019 13:08

My cousin has been getting botox for excessive sweat for years. I am delighted for her as she was so self conscious about it. I get it in my face for vanity reasons. No pain in the least!
