To tell you about my Botox? I swear it’s not what you think...

Lurker mostly.. I have seen a fair few threads on Botox recently and really wanted to tell people about my Botox experience

I’m mid 20s and have recently had botox injections through the NHS. I’ve suffered with hyperhidrosis for many years. I’ve suffered through doctors not taking it seriously, doctors not knowing much about the condition, being prescribed off-label medication that had horrible side effects.

Botox has been a real life changer. I have gone from changing my clothing - tops, bras, knickers several times a day to being able to wear colours other than black as I’m not worried about sweat patches.

I am sharing this hoping it might help someone suggest Botox to their doctor as it has improved my mental health and quality of life immensely. Just thought I’d see what people think about Botox when used for something other than your typical cosmetic procedure .

@blowandgo Does your cousin find it painful? I’m working up the courage to have my groin done..

Can you have it in your scalp and hair line? My face pours with sweat most of the time and I look like I've just stepped out of the shower. I've tried the facial antiperspirants, but they don't stick to my scalp because of very thick hair.

I also have botox for hyperhidrosis. Havent been able to have it for a while as was pregnant and now breastfeeding. I miss having it. Like you it was an absolute game changer. I loved being able to wear whatever I wanted without worrying. Excited for when I can have it again!

LolaBelle99 · 24/10/2019 16:05

@thenightsky yes! My doctor is happy to Botox just about anywhere though I have heard of others who won’t.

@Mumoftoo19 have you found pregnancy has increased your sweating?

Yes 100% my first pregnancy is when I developed hyperhidrosis. It's not been as bad this time around. It used to literally drip like water droplets down my arms. Now it's not so bad. I find night times are the worst for full body sweats. Sorry the app wont let me @ you.

I'm looking into getting it for rosacea (the flushing kind). I hear it's a reasonably new use for it - I imagine it works on the same basis as for excessive sweating? Just need to find someone who can do it privately as I'm unlikely to get a referral via go. Any recommendations for NW England welcome!

LolaBelle99 · 24/10/2019 21:50

@Mumoftoo19 oh that’s awful! I’m actually not too bad at night time (at least no worse than at rest in the day!) But I do think my body temp runs hot ... I could live in shorts year round and still be sweating Blush

@Cotonshaded have you done the gp route? I never ever imagined having Botox on the nhs but it was only when I was referred to a dermatologist who specialises in hyperhidrosis that I got the ok. Perhaps you’ll have some luck that way? If not, I would recommend going with a dr over a cosmetician (sp?)
