Now it's getting colder am building up some winter insulation Blush .....The kids love a pudding after tea most nights its tinned fruit with a blob of cream or a yogurt or maybe a ice lolly. Some nights they surprise me completely and wont have one .....anyway what cheap puddings are nice easy and good on a budget.

Tonight we got a big swiss roll and sliced it up put it in a pyrex dish or similar and poured over a tin of custard and put in the oven for 20mins or so it was so so good feed all 4 of us and was 50p for swiss roll 50p for tin of custard....

AIBU to ask for your cheap family friendly puddings.

Layer Lotus biscoff (or similar caramel dry bisquit) and whipped cream in a tin and chill overnight. Just a thin layer of cream. It's so good.
I sometimes blend sharp berries like frozen raspberries and pour little over

BBC Good food nigella sticky toffee pudding ... the one where you add the hot water and bi carb to the dates and not into the pudding dish before it goes in the oven. Cheap and good enough to serve to dinner party guests.

Roll out some pastry, spread jam all over and fold in all of the sides so it doesn't leak and bake in the oven. Serve with custard. I don't know what it's called but is cheap- I often do it with the left over pastry from pies/pasties so costs pennies.

Banana cake. It actually works better with over-ripe bananas, so fruit you would have thrown out gets used - plus it’s very easy to make and keeps well.

Jam tarts - we often do a large one portioned up with the pastry. The kids’ absolute favourite. the
Apple cake (like Eve’s pudding), easy and delicious.
Crumbles - apple, pear, blackberry, rhubarb, plum, cherries.
Fruit pies or tarts.
Easiest and of all - bananas, raisins and custard. (I hate it, DH and kids love it.)

Fried chocolate sandwich

Take two slices of bread per person, butter or brush with olive oil. Make a sandwich with some grated chocolate or thin pieces of chocolate (a little sprinkle of salt is good too), the buttered/oiled sides need to face outward. Heat frying pan to a medium heat, fry on both sides til golden and crispy and the chocolate has melted.

@StillCoughingandLaughing Not sure if banana cake is the same thing as banana bread. But I love extra ripe bananas for banana bread, the riper the better.

Apple crumble. We always have apples in the fridge and porridge oats to put in the crumble. I always make extra topping and freeze for the next batch.

You can't beat home-made chocolate rice pudding! I use pudding rice and cocoa and oven bake it. Usually served with tinned or fresh pears.
