AIBU to be angry at husband over heating!

Ok so it's a small thing but I'm so mad at my husband!!
About 6 weeks ago he decided that he wanted to change all the radiators in the house so they'd all be matching, at the time I thought it was a good idea as they are a bit mismatched.. the weather has changed in the last week and it's becoming very chilly in the house and abviously we can't have the heating on. He stated this this morning it won't be done for another 2/3 weeks!! I told him that he needs to get it sorted asap!! He said he'd checked the weather and it's not going to be freezing anytime soon and to put another jumper on!!
It's ok for him as he gets to go off to work in a warm office all day whilst I am home with a 3 year old DD and 22 month DS
Raging!!!
AIBU to be so mad with him??

Ah, unless he is changing the pipework too. But a new boiler and 8 radiators taken out and replaced with new push fit pipes took a pro 3 days. New pipe is super easy these days. Lesson learned, make sure he doesn't start something if it dragging on is going to cause a problem...

MumW · 21/10/2019 13:38

How about decamping yourself to his office to warm up?

Bluebelltulip · 21/10/2019 13:39

I would not be happy with this at all. We replaced half of our radiators last year and it took DH 2 days and he refilled the system over night so we could heat the house back up (it was December). If he wants to drag his heels then he needs to get it in a usable state in between. Yes he might find it a pain but if he's not doing anything during the week then he needs to make it usable.

candycane222 · 21/10/2019 13:52

Second what bluebell says. And 20 years of marriage in, I entirely feel your pain, unfortunately. The only way I can hurry him up is to try sorting things out myself. That tends to put a rocket under him,for a day or two anyway.

FizzyGreenWater · 21/10/2019 13:57

Not acceptable.

Tell him he's got this weekend to either fit them all, or you will book a plumber.

He doesn't sound very capable of effective DIY.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 21/10/2019 14:02

Yanbu at all! Nothing worse than being cold, and I feel quite cross on your behalf that he is sitting in his cosy office while you and your dc are cold at home. I honestly couldn’t live with a man like that (my poor friend spent ages living in basically a building site with her little kids because her “d”h insisted on doing it all himself, then seriously took his time).
If you can afford it I’d get a professional in. Otherwise buy some portable heaters, or decamp to a friend / relative’s house until he pulls his finger out.

Branster · 21/10/2019 14:07

I’m guessing he wants to do the job himself because he knows how to do t and he would save a fair bit of money in the process.
Having to do it around his work schedule will delay what it is not a straightforward job even further.
I’d be a bit more supportive as it is saving household money and will make your home look nicer. I can see you are annoyed at present because you feel cold. It’s only for 3 weeks maximum, most of the time you might be out of the house during the day judging by the age of your little ones.
Why don’t you ask friends/neighbours if they have any spare electric radiators and use those - they are actually very good at heating up a room.
As a last resort, buy a couple of electric radiators as suggested by other posters from Argos or Amazon.

Another vote here for telling him that you will be booking a plumber if he cannot get his arse into gear to complete the job.

My DH can be rather like this when it comes to some DIY jobs. He is seriously over-optimistic over what he can get done in a given time frame and jobs end up half done for ages. I will not be letting him touch the central heating though, or I will end up like you.

Kaykay06 · 21/10/2019 14:37

It was freezing here overnight, car was an igloo and we were cold this morning so you’re in for a chilly few weeks.

Surely you could have asked how long he’d take and if this Couldn’t have been put off until summertime next year, seems an odd time to start such a big job that then requires no heating when it’s cold?..

NormallyNormal · 21/10/2019 14:39

I wouldn't have let him do it until next summer! YABU to agree to having no heating when it's freezingShock

Get yourself an electric blanket and heater and don't share with him when he's whining about the cold.

Drum2018 · 21/10/2019 14:46

Just tell him you are calling a plumber tomorrow. There's no way I'd put up with that, but then again there's no way Dh would happily leave me or kids at home with no heat. Ring around a few local plumbers, ask them how soon they can do the job and have that information for your inconsiderate Dh this evening.

MsPepperPotts · 21/10/2019 14:57

What a selfish idiot he is.
Go onto Argos website and order a couple of convector heaters.
Personally I would get a proper plumber to finish the job because you can bet your neck there will be something wrong with the CH system when finally gets round to filling it back up again by then it will probably be Christmas.

Willow2017 · 21/10/2019 15:01

We had 5 radiators and the boiler replaced by HA in one day. It would have been 6 but the packers had put wrong one in for bathroom. They just put old one back on till the new one was delivered. No problem with different radiators.
9 weeks is beyond ridiculous.
G.A.L.M.I😀

mamandematribu · 21/10/2019 15:10

Yanbu especially with dc and it's now cough and cold season. Do get yourself a little portable radiator you can move from room to room (especially useful for warming toddlers after the bath or shower) and maybe a toddler bath too.

timeisnotaline · 21/10/2019 15:26

I would 1,000% book a plumber. Tell him he can take forever to do things when he is the one inconvenienced, not his young children. But my dh knows I’d move me and dc to a hotel until the heating was fixed and he could add up how much that cost him compared to a plumber.

TheSandman · 21/10/2019 15:35

What's the point of matching radiators anyway. They're all in different rooms, so you can only look at one at any time.
Do people really look at their living room radiator and think that it clashes with the one in the bedroom?

This.

Seriously weird.

readingismycardio · 21/10/2019 17:46

I couldn't handle that either, I need heating. And you need it too, especially for the children if not necessarily for yourself.

Get yourself some oil radiators for this time period and they're also great to keep in the house for future emergencies.

Oodlesandpoodles · 21/10/2019 17:50

Op isn’t being UR

Get him to do it at the weekend, failing that when he gets home from work just put them back on and do the matching in the new year!

If he fails, tell him he can have cold dinner in exchange
