I’m just so fed up with them only lasting a few years. I’m thinking of getting lower end Miele one I saw in a local shop. DH thinks they won’t last any longer. I heard they go on and on. He thinks it’s too much and won’t last as long as two cheap ones. I think it will wash better and last at least twice as long as a cheap one, ours has died after 3 years.. I think we have a family that I’ve never met living in my house too, going by how much washing there is for 3 kids! We can just afford it by doing a lower key Xmas and birthdays this next year. AIBU?

@Mummyme1987 it was not the most basic: either one or two steps above. We got it from John Lewis and it was about £700 but we waited for the JL sale - it was £850-ish full price.

RubbingHimSourly · 20/10/2019 15:37

This is £750 with a five year guarantee.

www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/household-appliances/laundry/washing-machines/miele-wdd030-ecoplus-comfort-washing-machine-white-10158608-pdt.html but it's probably cheaper on AO.com or whatever

Do the old think of the planet / turtles speech on him. Machines that last longer are far better.for the environment 💁

I think DH is the shove it in and put a tablet in type. He is better with the non mixing of whites and darks now but they just don’t seem as clean as they should be. I did have to point out a white work shirt and jeans aren’t a good mix but otherwise don’t watch him and nit pick.

I just bought my new Miele a few weeks ago. it was just over £1000 but I got £200 cash back on that and a free 10 year warranty on all parts and labour.

Mummyme1987 · 20/10/2019 15:38

Thanks for the links. £750 that guaranteed for 5 years might get him onside!

We've just got rid of a Bosch after at least 12.5 years - it was in the house when we moved and not new. Have replaced with another Bosch at around £450. After cheap is false economy. But you dint have to go top of the price range to get reliability.

Mummyme1987 · 20/10/2019 15:39

Also only washing stuff once will be cheaper in electricity costs too.

Where from Frosty? Ten years sounds great for £800.

Miele are good but I would avoid the TwinDos - it's still quite new technology and has had lots of teething problems. And repairs are expensive once you're out of warranty

RubbingHimSourly · 20/10/2019 15:41

FrostyGirl have you got a link please ?? My friend's looking to replace her 20 year old model, it still works but is limping along. Yours is an even better deal than the one I found for her.

Tweetingmagpie · 20/10/2019 15:41

I have Miele washer and dryer and they were about £1500 each, the last ones I bought were 12-15 years ago and also Miele and similar price at the time, so definitely worth spending more on Miele imo.

Elphame · 20/10/2019 15:42

My AEG lasted nearly 20 years. It would still be going now but we couldn't get a replacement seal for it this summer.

I've just replaced it with an LG on a recommendation.

Grafittiqueen · 20/10/2019 15:42

I spent £900 on an LG machine. It was such a lemon and cost us loads in repair bills. Ditched it for a £200 zanussi lindo a few years ago. I'll never buy an expensive machine again.

Mummyme1987 · 20/10/2019 15:43

He’s agreed to £800 for guaranteed ten years! Thanks mumsnet!

I don't think 900 is unreasonable on a decent machine with a huge load capacity, eco and time save functions.

I have a 9kg LG which I paid 500-600 may be 6-7 years ago, I love it, so much better than cheaper ones, known friends go through 2 in that time.
My parents have miele appliances, they've lived together 25 years my step mum had the first machine before they were together and they replaced it because it was getting old fairly recently. There was nothing wrong with it.

forkfun · 20/10/2019 15:46

My Miele is 12 years old and has never needed to be serviced or fixed. My parents' Miele is 22 years old.

FrostyGirl66 · 20/10/2019 15:47

its an offer direct from their website. certain models are eligible for cash back and extended warranty. doesn't matter where you buy it from, because you just upload your receipt on their website.

I will say though, my model was only eligible for £75 cash back, but when I uploaded my info, it said £200!

not sure if the two offers are still running, it was about a month ago I bought mine.

got my machine from this website, they were the best priced.www.cooksandcompany.co.uk/

Mummyme1987 · 20/10/2019 15:50

Thank you Frosty.

Check out Which for best buys.

The most expensive doesn't mean the best. We went for a Which Best Buy at £600.

cultkid · 20/10/2019 15:56

Is the water really hard where you live? All of our appliances die so bloody soon here. We have awful water.
I have a samsung with a door on to add during the wash it's fantastic
Agree about sorting the laundry
Also using enough detergent and good detergent effects the quality of the wash / fresh smells

IamWaggingBrenda · 20/10/2019 16:00

Do some Consumer Report type research, so you can get unbiased reviews of machines. Being pricey doesn’t guarantee that a machine will work well. Research other brands to see which typically work well. Three years is a really short time.

Orangecake123 · 20/10/2019 16:03

I think you can get one for cheaper.

We have a Miele dishwasher that's almost as old as my sister (16) and a Bosch washing machine. (5+ years old)

ConstanzaAndSalieri · 20/10/2019 16:05

Bought a Miele after recommendation, my friend was disappointed her last one only lasted 15 years as she’s also had one last 25 years..

Anyway, 9 years later and many loads a week (family of 5), I’m pleased with it...

RubbingHimSourly · 20/10/2019 16:05

I was told by an engineer years ago to go with one that doesn't have a load of functions and a flashy control panel as these are often what malfunctions. Basically an old fashioned dial and buttons one that you have to set yourself is a better option than something with a load of bells and whistles that you don't need........I'd only ever have Miele again as it's a brand my mum etc always used but if I couldn't afford that then I'd go for an elcheapo one. The bottom line beko or whatever.

Derbee · 20/10/2019 16:06

I would get a Miele if you can afford it. You often get what you pay for
