I used to love this program and felt that this was the template for sitcoms if it's time and everything else was a variation on a theme - anyone remember the sitcom with Judi Dench playing opposite her real life husband - i think she sang the theme tune (before this became a joke in Littelt Britain) . Am I BU in being nostalgic for the days of this kind of TV - do you think these kind of progs would seem a bit dated now?

nothing past present or in the future will ever beat only fools and horses

I think Wolfie Smith has grown up into Jeremy Corbyn! Grin.

The bus episode of SMDAE is superb. Classic slapstick.

tillytrotter1 · 20/10/2019 20:20

ForcesTV shows some really old stuff, they had the WW2 series World at War a few months ago, I recall that as a young teenager.
One of my favourites is Goodnight Sweetheart.

TheCanterburyWhales · 20/10/2019 20:21

I remember Nearest and Dearest. And a spin off possibly about a pickle factory. I did (apparently) a rather splendid take off of Hilda Baker.

Billy Liar? a comedy version of the more serious stage play, was on a Friday night. Floppy haired bloke so would have been early 70s.

Elderflower14 · 20/10/2019 20:22

Idris Elba and Bill Bailey... Its set in my youth and i 😍 it!!

@Charley1988 - I’ll take a look at In Loving Memory, I don’t know that one

missclimpson · 20/10/2019 20:29

@TheCanterburyWhales
Pledge's Pickle Factory. 😊

I get the nostalgia but these shows were awful! Tepid farty racist/sexist shit reliant on tired stereotypes.

We're living in a golden age of tv now. We don't have to watch some 70s crap about mowing the lawn and falling out with your spouse.

What was the sitcom whose theme tune was Take 5 by the Dave Brubeck quartet?

Terry & June
Some mothers do 'ave 'em
Only fools & horses.
Keeping up appearances.
Birds of a feather.
Open all hours.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 20/10/2019 20:45

What was the sitcom with the brilliant Lynda Bellingham and James Bolam? It had Faith in the title, as that was her name and Julia Sawahla played her daughter? They show Shelley on Forces TV every night, not funny at all, and barely anything happens.

You’re thinking of Second Thoughts. Faith in the Future was the sequel, without James Bolan.

Pinkarsedfly · 20/10/2019 20:45

I liked In Loving Memory with Thora Hird.

And Open All Hours.

Mamamia456 · 20/10/2019 20:49

Horse4course - You have to remember them in the context of the time though.

I don't think this is the golden age of TV. Too many channels, too many reality programmes. I struggle to find something decent to watch some times.

Mamamia456 · 20/10/2019 20:52

Flouncy - Yes, loved the carry on films. Tried to get my kids to watch carry on screaming when it was on a few years ago. They just didn't find it funny!
