I used to love this program and felt that this was the template for sitcoms if it's time and everything else was a variation on a theme - anyone remember the sitcom with Judi Dench playing opposite her real life husband - i think she sang the theme tune (before this became a joke in Littelt Britain) . Am I BU in being nostalgic for the days of this kind of TV - do you think these kind of progs would seem a bit dated now?

Bread was genius. Home to Roost with Reece Dinsdale and John Thaw and Sorry! with Ronnie Corbett. It was later, but The Thin Blue Line with Rowan Atkinson was brilliant too.

Married 2.4 Children

I had a massive crush on Belinda Lang.

As Time Goes By - Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer

Mamamia456 · 20/10/2019 19:31

Anyone remember No Honestly with John Alderton and Pauline Collins, who were married in real life.

Catquest1 · 20/10/2019 19:37

I used to watch Watching as a kid with Brenda and the funky hair 😂

Pinkarsedfly · 20/10/2019 19:38

What was the one with Robert Lindsay? Felt like the last of a dying breed. Zoe Wanamaker was in it too.

Catquest1 · 20/10/2019 19:43

My family

Catquest1 · 20/10/2019 19:44

Dear John was amazing - much better than OFAH, IMHO. "Louise, I have a bit of a problem." "Is it a SEXUAL problem?!?!?!"

I also loved Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, but looking back on it now, today, Frank would almost certainly have been diagnosed with learning difficulties - not a reason to laugh at somebody at all.

Haven't read whole thread but anyone remember Rings on their Fingers, Solo, or Goodbye Mr Kent?

Difficultcustomer · 20/10/2019 19:51

Remember many of these fondly especially Bread and To the manor born. I remember Surgical Spirit.
No idea how they would stand up today. Still like Porridge (but know it has dated.)

More modern but I think one of the most poignant pieces of television is the end of the last episode of Blackadder Goes Forth. (Fade to poppies).

cushionedlanding · 20/10/2019 19:52

Wasn't Terry and June preceded by Happily Ever After but their surname was different and it had Aunt Lucy in it?

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 20/10/2019 19:52

Oh loved Dear John.

familycourtq · 20/10/2019 19:53

I loathed Terry and June at the time. Passage of time hasn’t improved it.

maddiemookins16mum · 20/10/2019 19:55

I liked My Wife Next Door, pretty sure it had the lovely John Alderton in it.

WombleishofThigh · 20/10/2019 19:55

Has anyone mentioned After Henry? It started on radio, I think, with Prunella Scales. It was a mainly female cast and very, very middle class!

BigFatLiar · 20/10/2019 19:56

Surprising how many are still on telly all these years later.

TheCanterburyWhales · 20/10/2019 19:57

I can remember No Honestly. Am also old enough to remember John Alderton in Please Sir. His is another voice that takes me back to childhood.
I think Blackadder will probably be still feted in 50 years' time. It won't age, because of the historical slant and the writing, and acting, were superlative

Elderflower14 · 20/10/2019 19:59

Clarence..Ronnie Barker at his best... Josephine Tewson as well who was in KUA!!

missclimpson · 20/10/2019 20:00

Does anyone else remember Nearest and Dearest with Hylda Baker and Jimmy Jewell ('68 to '73). We still say, "Bloody Nora, it's the Mikadoo". 😀

user1497207191 · 20/10/2019 20:02

Another one - Goodnight Sweatheart - another classic with Nicholas Lyndhurst

woodhill · 20/10/2019 20:10

Do love Michael Crawford 's stints in SMDAEm particularly the skating /bus one and the car on/over the cliff

Lightsabre · 20/10/2019 20:10

The one with Robert Lindsay was Citizen Smith - we still shout 'power to the people' now! Loved the theme tune too.

woodhill · 20/10/2019 20:11

I remember the theme tune to "no honestly".
