I had my daith pierced 2 weeks ago and it healed like a charm until the last day or so where I think I’ve notice bumps.

It’s red but hasn’t been painful, hot or oozing anything at all. Getting really worried and will go back to my piercer but can’t until Tuesday and I’m worried about it getting much worse.

First pic at a few days old and the second is it now (just been in shower so skin is pink but my ear is red)

@Lhastingsmua Thank you! Been poorly for over a week now and every illness I get seems to hit me so much harder since I had glandular fever last year. Think it's some form of the 'fresher's flu' but I've struggled to get out of bed some days.

I'll try the submersion technqiue too

Warm salt water will help with healing OP.
Off topic I know but can it really help with migraine? I'm interested if so. I'm just shy of sawing my own head off at the moment with them.

LadyShrek2k19 · 18/10/2019 22:37

I had this with my rook recently - it got so bad I thought I was going to have to take it out. I had followed all the advice but went back to the piercer who told me it was likely irritation, to make sure I DEFINITELY wasn't sleeping on it and use an aspirin paste.

The aspirin paste is the only thing that worked (I had tried saline solution, salt baths, tea tree oil and LTHA). Crush half an aspirin (NOT Paracetamol), mix with water to make a paste and apply to both sides with a cotton bud before bed. Rinse well in the am. I did this every night for a fortnight and it is fab now.

StudentHelp · 18/10/2019 22:45

I think that may be part of the issue, I keep waking up and I’ve been lying on that side even though I consciously try not to

Christ please keep off the tea tree oil! It's an astringent which will dry your piercing out.

The best advice is to LIMA - leave it mostly alone. Baby it if it flares up, sea salt soaks and chamomile compresses are good, and otherwise leave it alone.

Sleep on your other side to avoid irritation.Try putting a pillow behind your back when you sleep to keep you rolling over. Or a T-shirt with one of those front pockets, put a tennis ball in it and wear it backwards.

StudentHelp · 18/10/2019 23:44

@pugparty
It’s only 5% tea tree oil that I’ve been using and I was given it by my piercer but I will stop using it.

I would call the piercer in the morning rather than waiting to actually walk in.

ActualHornist · 18/10/2019 23:49

I used an oil with tea tree and lavender which are both antiseptic - was brilliant for healing my tragus.

StudentHelp · 19/10/2019 00:01

Just for comparison, this is it now when not freshly out the shower (was a stupid time to post really, wasn’t it?)

It definitely looks less irritated in the last photo, I’d go so far as to say it looks pretty good and nothing to worry about! Hope you feel better soon.

StudentHelp · 19/10/2019 19:53

Thanks for your reply again!
This is it tonight, is it best to clean the crusts with cotton buds or simply soak and otherwise leave alone?

Soak if you can, if that’s too difficult then just use buds.

You can take the crust off with buds but don’t force anything to come/be too harsh

Lhastingsmua · 19/10/2019 20:29

Come off*

pugparty · 19/10/2019 20:42

Soak. The crusty lymph should come off with soaks and in the shower.

StudentHelp · 20/10/2019 00:40

Thanks! I’ve soaked it and will continue to do so twice daily and see how it goes

Went to see my piercer and they said it’s not infected or anything, it’s just inflamed from being moved etc. They told me to stop soaking it and only clean once a day with a cotton bud Confused and if any lumps appear use tea tree oil (5%) and leave over night. Don’t know what to do now

Follow your piercer. They are qualified.

Vampyress · 23/10/2019 00:26

I had my daith pierced and they used a curved bar (currently have the same type in my rook) and had no issues until the ball fell off the bar and the area was so small I couldn't refit it so took the piercing out. I can't shake the feeling that your jewellery might be the cause of the irritation as it would be easy to knock or get caught in hair. My scaffold got really angry at the top due to being nudged alot during sleep and getting caught in my hair and developed a keloid scar. I would deffo get back to a piercing salon asap. Good luck!

Vampyress · 23/10/2019 00:27

Ahh poop posted before reading your update!

Custardtarte · 23/10/2019 00:44

Am I being really dumb or are the first 2 pictures of different ears?

Well, the freckles are in the same placements. so I think the image has been reversed.

StudentHelp · 23/10/2019 10:35

They’re the same ear but one taken with Snapchat and one with the iPhone camera which reverses things, I think!

I’ll listen to my piercer I think then

My DD had 2nd holes in May and they have only just healed properly. We just kept cleaning them with saline over and over they did eventually heal. It wasn’t infected just you could see wasn’t healing well

I’ve never had any ears take that long but I did have complete rejection of my belly button

Heymummee · 23/10/2019 10:40

My daith took ages to heal.
If you go to the pharmacist they’ll give you something to clean it with. I had mine done 15 years ago but I seem to remember cleaning it with cotton wool and tcp. Not sure what they recommend these days! I’m sure it will be ok!

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 23/10/2019 10:40

It is a thick chunk of ear you've stuck a hole through there so it will take longer to heal. Have you knocked or caught it? Also (sorry to patronise but) have you been touching it with unwashed hands? So easy to do this absentmindedly.
