It's raining, heavily. Been raining for an hour. We're hungry but can't leave verandah because of the sodding rain. It's impressive but we're starving. Are we being unreasonable to wish it would hold up? (lighthearted)

Rains cooled it right down we already have a load of clothes wet from rapids shooting trip.

My heart bleeds Grin

I hate to be a downer but I'm gojng to be (hey come on, its aibu after all):

You realise by visiting the rain forest you are contributing to it dying, right?

Boots20 · 18/10/2019 15:06

YABU for calling a meal 'dindins'

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/10/2019 15:11

Din dins. Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/10/2019 15:13

That's a bold statement @gwackywacky

There's plenty of rainforest in accessible places in countries that are preserving it. 25% of Costa Rica is national parks. And flying isn't great but it won't be the reason for the end of days. If they flew, which we do t know.

FurrySlipperBoots · 18/10/2019 15:18

I love that you've gone to the rainforest without thinking to take waterproofs with you! Grin

Update for the terminally bored and over-invested. It stopped raining and we took a boat across the river to the posh side and ate hugely from a swish (by rainforest standards) restaurant to celebrate outlast night. Oh boy was that a bad move. 3am I woke up to have the world falling out my bottom. Me and the loo were very good friends, top and bottom for the next three hours. I then had to let husband pack us all up and take kids for brekkie whilst I lay feebly on the bed thinking about the 2 hour boat and 3 hour minibus ride back to the big city. I fed the fish several times waiting for the boat. The minibus ride we'll not talk about. Moral of the story, do not trust fried rice dishes.

Are you/ were you in Taman Negara? The 'posh' side of the river and journey back sounds familiar. I stayed on the posh side and luckily avoided the bathroom situation, I ruined some good walking shoes in the rain though.

If so, there's an option of a mini bus all the way back to Kuala Lumpur, it's quicker and easier if you're feeling rough still.

Ah thanks CheeseFace no one's kissed me in 48 hours but I think we're safe Grin Taman Negara it was as now back in KL and relative comfort. It's my third time and first time sick so I guess I was just unlucky. Did you see any exciting critters on your trip?

OP posts:
CheeseFace · 19/10/2019 18:34

Similar critters to you I think - the odd monkey, birds, A LOT of insects, snakes and spiders. It definitely cured me of my moth phobia.

tooyoungat40 · 19/10/2019 23:45

Yes, it was not a good idea to wear head torches on the night safari - every moth divebombing your face is not good! Which snakes did you spot? This year we saw a beautiful bronze back just off the path. Last year I spotted what turned out to be a naffing King Cobra Shock He/she was sleeping soundly curled up in the sunlight just off the path ConfusedConfused

Dindins? Brekkie? Do grown adults really talk like this?

tooyoungat40 · 20/10/2019 14:54

See what you have there, RogerBannister , is an oxymoron. An adult is an adult. Oh, and yes, in response to your unnecessary and snarky comment, we do indeed talk like this in our family. It would be a very boring world if we were all exactly alike.

MargotLovedTom1 · 20/10/2019 15:01

Isn't it a tautology, not oxymoron? Wink

Hope you're feeling better now. I've only experienced holiday wet weather in the Lake District. My bottom feels safe there.

WorraLiberty · 20/10/2019 15:02

No brollies unless we walk in the rain to buy one. Hindsight is a marvellous thing....

How does hindsight even come into it?

The clue is in the name Grin

tooyoungat40 · 21/10/2019 15:04

You're right MargotlovesTom - that'll teach me to try to be clever! Bottom much better but it's still rainy even away from the rain forest. I didn't bring waterproofs because it's so hot that you sweat in them and get soaked anyway. The umbrella was a packing oversight. Anyway we're heading home tomorrow to the land of hygge to freeze our bits off. Umbrella added to packing list should we ever return. Grin

That is true actually!! And really annoying! I had to change my whole outfit the other day despite waterproof overalls, and that was in England!
