To think you still need to carry cash?

Another example of me feeling old and out of touch Smile

More and more people don't seem to carry cash, especially young people in their twenties or under. Need to pay something at work? It's a PayPal transfer, same for splitting a meal. Travel all by app. Same with shopping.

But I can't not have money on me 'just incase'. Always have at least a fiver but usually about £40.

So, AIBU to think you always need cash? Or am I clinging onto an old outdated habit Wink

I still carry cash just in case (usually £10-20), but not use it often.

I don't think it's a good idea for the country as a whole to go cashless. On one hand it's more convenient to use just cards.

But on the other hand, It puts all the power in the hands of the banks and authorities. Our balances will be what they say they are. Just digits on a screen. We wouldn't be able to do a run on a bank that is in trouble. We wouldn't be able to stash our cash under the mattress if that is what we prefer. We'd have much less power as individuals over our own lives and money.

We also won't be able to give money to the homeless either.

I was driving on a motorway one night recently, when the tyre pressure warning sign came up. I had pull into the next service station and check all the tyre pressures!

The machine only accepted coins - what would you all do with your cards, Applepay, etc? Have to pay to use an ATM?

I keep a pile of change in the car for such emergencies, or buying a pint of milk or a pound for the trolley.

I hardly ever have cash I remember last month was at the hospital and really wanted a tea and thought dammit I have no change for the vending machine. When I went to it it was contactless couldn't believe it Shock

Yes I use cash as it means I am not tempted to
use my card and helps me stay within my budget. Especially useful when kids are on sch holidays and I dont overspend if I stay within cash budget. However my cash budget is small. I think to use contactless all the time it is easy to lose track of what you are spending.

I always carry cash and a bank card. Very rarely use cash but like to carry it just in case.

I pay for everything with my smart watch

No cash. Ever. Not even cards actually these days I do my best to do it all with applepay.
