To think this is a pathetic response to complaint about smart meter harassment?

Our energy supplier, Eon,has been sending a ridiculous level of smart meter shite our way for months (emails, text message, letter, it's silly). I can't understand why they're pushing it so aggressively when I've told them we can't have one because the meter location doesn't get mobile 3g/4g signal at all (we literally don't get any signal in that half of the house) and we switch supplier a lot so unless they find one that doesn't need signal and can work when switching.. there's no bloody point to keep harassing us.

I've got so fed up I actually sat down and wrote a letter because I keep adding them to junk/block lists but their shit still arrives .. telling them to STOP using our contact details to make it sound like it's a legal requirement...

And they've just got back to my complaint to say they can stop the communications soak "for three months". If I want their messages to stop after, I'll need to contact them to ask to be stopped again for 3 months. Ffs.

Has anyone else been in this position? I'm going to switch supplier earlier this year than normal just to get away from their fucking messages (3 SMS in a 48hr period, then emails two days in a row)..

Is there an energy supplier out there who's less .. aggressive.. with their Comms??

We’ve also been harassed to have a new smart meter. We switched suppliers perhaps 3 months ago and had one fitted after being bombarded with texts, calls and letters from our old supplier, just so they would stop. Now we are with EON and have the same trouble! They say the other smart meter doesn’t work for them (works fine). I have had 2 texts from them 3 days in a row and am so sick of it. We called and asked them to stop bothering us, we don’t have holiday left to take time to get one fitted so leave it. We eventually booked it for a day my son was home then he had an appointment so we cancelled and rebooked yet the texts continued. We are switching supplier. I’ve had enough.

I use Robin Hood. They’ve never brought this up.

My friend had smart meter fitted, his gas meter was outside and they moved the meter inside by the front door. 3 days later his house nearly burnt to the ground, it was only good luck that his wife was in and called the fire brigade, if she hadnt been there the house and next door would have been destroyed. They had to move out for 6 months for the house to be renovated, mostly smoke damage.

Fire Brigade confirm that the seat of the fire was near the new meters but couldnt confirm it was the meter that caused the fire.

Will never get one fitted.

You may need to double check what legal basis they are using to contact you (privacy notice), but say under GDPR you do not consent to marketing and object to processing for the marketing of smart meters- see what they come back with.

I've been with Avro, Octopus and Pure Planet lately and never been asked to install one! They all came up as the cheapest renewable for me, using MoneySavingExperts comparison tool.

Sorry not helpful for your original AIBU but maybe explore a smaller supplier.

I was with Scottish Power and had one fitted as I bought into all the hype - it didn't make a blind bit of difference to my usage which was minimal anyway!!! 6 months later I changed provider and lo and behold the smart meter couldn't be used Grin.
