To think this is a pathetic response to complaint about smart meter harassment?

Our energy supplier, Eon,has been sending a ridiculous level of smart meter shite our way for months (emails, text message, letter, it's silly). I can't understand why they're pushing it so aggressively when I've told them we can't have one because the meter location doesn't get mobile 3g/4g signal at all (we literally don't get any signal in that half of the house) and we switch supplier a lot so unless they find one that doesn't need signal and can work when switching.. there's no bloody point to keep harassing us.

I've got so fed up I actually sat down and wrote a letter because I keep adding them to junk/block lists but their shit still arrives .. telling them to STOP using our contact details to make it sound like it's a legal requirement...

And they've just got back to my complaint to say they can stop the communications soak "for three months". If I want their messages to stop after, I'll need to contact them to ask to be stopped again for 3 months. Ffs.

Has anyone else been in this position? I'm going to switch supplier earlier this year than normal just to get away from their fucking messages (3 SMS in a 48hr period, then emails two days in a row)..

Is there an energy supplier out there who's less .. aggressive.. with their Comms??

We had Bulb at our previous address, no problems with them. We have just moved house so obviously we have to initially use the existing supplier... and there is a Smart meter installed grrr.... I heard that makes it difficult to switch suppliers? If we go back to Bulb can they take away the smart meter does anyone know?

Drabarni · 16/10/2019 17:29

They are all the same OP, they are trying to get every household done by 2022, then prices will go up depending on times of demand.
We are avoiding it until they tell us it's compulsory, then we will decide whether to go off grid or not.
I hate all this Big Brother shit, but unfortunately it's coming to the stage where you need to lead an alternative lifestyle to avoid it.

Cracklycaramel · 16/10/2019 17:34

SSE hounded me for ages until I finally capitulated and agreed ‐-because they made it sound compulsory--. That was the point where they asked if either meter was underground or more than X number if meters above ground. Yup. One is the top of a very big house and the other in the cellar. Turns out we aren't suitable. They've never bothered me again. Grin

Bulb use wind farms, solar and CO2 farms. The wind farms and the CO2 farms are by far the biggest contributors.

They may not be pefect, but they're;

A) challenging the monopoly on the energy market and creating competition

B) making more of an effort to be mindful of the environment and be sustainable than the traditional companies do.

They get my vote.

TheQueef · 16/10/2019 17:36

Avoid Shell.
They've just upped their smart campaign Angry

runningintothesunset · 16/10/2019 17:38

I’ve been with Pureplanet for a year and they haven’t mentioned one once yet! Scottish Power we’re obsessed with them Angry

Jadefeather7 · 16/10/2019 17:38

Can I ask why people are avoiding have them installed? I keep getting emails and was about to make an appointment...

Finchbon · 16/10/2019 17:39

Government coming down hard on the big 6 to get all households on board.
As long as it's a smet2 meter you can swop suppliers and keep the "smart" technology.
I've declined so far as I've only ever been offered a smet1.

Lolwhat · 16/10/2019 17:45

Go with octopus energy

Br1ll1ant · 16/10/2019 17:45

We just accepted an appt and the engineer told them there was no signal. All requests stopped. A waste of everyone’s time but they wouldn’t listen to me.

DGRossetti · 16/10/2019 17:45

Government coming down hard on the big 6

Apparently 13 energy companies went bust last year ....

I switched to EDF a few years ago and they've never pestered me. I was with Scottish Power before that and they sent one letter followed up by one phone call. I declined their offer of a Smart meter and never heard from them again.

isayhitocats · 16/10/2019 17:53

Eon and Edf are annoying as fuck

Malbecfan · 16/10/2019 17:58

@Jadefeather7 because I have no mobile signal here and they can sod off if they think they can piggyback it onto my pathetic wifi signal (that I am paying for). Because they aren't smart at all. I know that if I turn on my kettle, iron, oven or electric shower, my usage will shoot up. All electrical devices have labels on showing how much power they use per hour. I know what I pay per hour and I can do maths. Hardly smart.

Finally, because I am a suspicious person. I don't want something snooping on how and when I use electricity. If they used it to smooth out the load or to encourage me to use electricity e.g. in the middle of the night like economy 7 is meant to, fine I'll think about it. For now, it's a massive no.

I don't mean to sound mean to you personally. However, I refuse to get one for the reasons above. It's not compulsory and I am old enough and crabby enough to ask them to quote the legislation that states it is (doesn't exist). I am also miserable enough to state that under GDPR I withdraw my consent to use my contact information about anything other than bills or supply issues. Normally shuts the muppets up.

John470322 · 16/10/2019 18:00

I have been with the Co-op for two years and no mention of a smart meter

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 16/10/2019 19:33

I'm with Bulb and they've never offered me one, nor do I want one.

Fatted · 16/10/2019 19:38

Well my energy supplier have sent me an email, text and letter to tell me that they're coming round to my house to install a smart meter.

I just don't have the heart to tell them it's two days after I move out of the house.

Fatted · 16/10/2019 19:38

Should say they're installing it without me ever asking for it.

NoraThePessimist · 16/10/2019 19:41

I'd never heard of some of these suppliers, am seriously considering them once I've done a bit of research.

I've already decided to stop giving out my mobile and landline number to companies, they can't force me to have them to use services although I'm assuming an email address needs to be supplied for online admin access, sigh.

I'm also looking to the Ombudsman, surely eon can't just get away with saying "tough, we will keep contacting you about them" once I've asked my details only get used for billing etc?!?

flumposie · 16/10/2019 19:43

I'm with Bulb and they contacted me last month about installing a smart meter but I'm not interested.

BenjiB · 16/10/2019 19:44

“They're perfectly safe, they don't use wifi, and Bulb have an installation program. We've just had ours put in by them.”

How do you know they are safe?

AwkwardSquad · 16/10/2019 19:45

I’m with Bristol Energy, they only communicate with me for meter readings and bills, and their customer service is really good IME.

Avoid iSupply like the plague.

Might be worth contacting the Information Commissioner about that.
