person that NONE of the local cats bothers to burry their poop? There is at least 5 of them!

No it's not foxes. It's cats. I know which ones because we had number of discussions when I caught them.

I suspect their opinion of me and my (well kept!) garden is just super low and this is how they show it😂

They even shit right next to plants they supposed to hate...

Mean bastards killing my plants.

Cat moaners join light-hearted debate and for god sake, please, someone give me some tips which ACTUALLY workBlush

(Disclaimer, I love animals. Like really love. As long as they don't shit in my garden.)

It sounds like your garden is at the edge of a lot of cats territory and their all trying to claim it as their own by pooing and not covering.

Get your own cat, feisty female, to shoo them off.

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 12/10/2019 18:27

I suspect one is a tiger😂 The size of it!

Was considering Main coon.... But I have sadly no time for one.

AllFourOfThem · 12/10/2019 18:32

I was going to suggest buying a lion but that probably won’t work if you’ve got a tiger as a neighbour. Perhaps a gruffalo?

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 12/10/2019 18:36

Our local zoo sells bags of lion poo(?)/bedding to scare off smaller animals and stop them pooing in your garden. Clearly for people who want all the odour of a lion but don’t have the space or nerve for a real one.
So if you have a zoo nearby and don’t mind your garden smelling like a lions bottom, that could be a solution!

Bellringer · 12/10/2019 18:37

Water pistol

ravenshope · 12/10/2019 18:38

They never bury it in mine either, just leave heaps all over the lawn...

miaCara · 12/10/2019 18:40

I hear you.
A water pistol and plenty of time and patience is really the only method that seems to work with any degree of success.

@UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe

Is that a joke or actually a thing? Because it sounds rather brilliant tbh. Does it work on animals that aren't from the same habitat as lions? Do they recognise it?

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 12/10/2019 18:51

Cravingcheese it’s an actual thing! Just had a quick check and it’s lion bedding that seems to do the trick Smile

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 12/10/2019 18:53

From the article:
“Zoo director Kim Simmons explains: “The big cat bedding seems to work very well as natural pest repellent, with reports that it’s effective with cats, rabbits, badgers, foxes and deer.

“So for those of you who don’t want your neighbours’ cat or local deer rooting around your prize winning flower garden try a bag of straw taken from a big cats bedrooms, the smell of which could scare off even the bravest cat in the neighbourhood!”

HauntedPinecone · 12/10/2019 18:54

Mr Pinecone has a lovely raised bed filled with herbs. The cats love it 🤣

The only thing I've found that keeps the cats away is the dog. And sadly, after 6 long months of effort, even he has given up now. He just whines at them and leaves them to it.

Fredastaireatemyjamsandwich · 12/10/2019 18:56

Save all your lemon/orange/grapefruit peel and scatter it over your flower beds. They hate citrus smells, and it will just biodegrade into the earth. And trying using old hosepipe too.
The local cats used to congregate on our hot tub cover (obvs for the warmth in the winter). Until I cut up an old garden hose into 12-15 Inch strips and laid them on top of the cover. Cats are hardwired to freak out at anything ‘snake’ shaped. (Google cats and cucumber videos).
They no longer sit on the hot tub, and generally keep out of our garden.
Good luck, hope it works for you too.

MrsTommyShelby · 12/10/2019 18:56

I'd say get your own cat (a big one).
I have two cats and have no cat poo in my garden anymore....
I also scatter used coffee grounds in the soil. It helps to deter slugs too! Orange peel doesn't seem to work (I've witnessed one of my cats trying to eat it)

CravingCheese · 12/10/2019 18:56

@UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe

Oh my. What a wonderful idea. I wonder whether they do that where I live. It would be a lovely (and rather funny...) Christmas gift...

And who wouldn't want zebra poop for one's roses. Would make a great conversation starter, I suspect...

CAG12 · 12/10/2019 19:04

We had this issue before we got a cat. You can cat repellant pellets that you sprinkle over the areas they poo the most. The really worked for us

Now we have a different issue in that the cat brings in live mice 🤦‍♀️

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 12/10/2019 19:22

Clearly for people who want all the odour of a lion but don’t have the space or nerve for a real one.
😂

Orange and lemon peel don't work. Some shat directly on it🙄 Nor does lavender... Saw one pooping while having her nose IN the freaking lavender bush...
Put a security light in there. Imho it just helped them to find the best spot.

I have to admit that it's making me fell better I am not the only one cats think so lowly about that they don't even burry it.

Wonder about the lion poop now🤔

OP posts:
cantfindname · 12/10/2019 19:28

Lion poo is sold under the product name 'Roar' in many garden centres. It works, my poor Dad was driven mad by the neighbour's nine cats and after scattering the stuff round all his boundaries he never saw them in the garden again. It did pong a bit when wet but generally it's only cats that can smell it.

AllFourOfThem · 12/10/2019 19:34

Rather than a Maine Coon (ours is much too friendly to everyone to protect our garden) you could get a Savannah cat. They look like they’d mean business.

NaviSprite · 12/10/2019 19:44

Yeah it's definitely a territory act and sometimes, having a cat of your own might not deter them! I have four cats and my big Ginger monster (who is actually a massive pushover when it comes to direct confrontation with other cats) keeps pooping at the end of my back garden near the gate (where he and the others travel in and out of said garden) and he doesn't cover it, so the three other local males (two of which haven't been neutered) decide to come in and have a go as well, it's a battle of wills between the four of them D:

The best thing I found to stop my own Dtwatcat and the others having a poop war is stakes, carefully planted in the areas they prefer. Mulch helps too as they don't like the texture and once I had an elderly neighbour who would go and collect hair from the local hairdressers as human hair deters most animals (including foxes).

I'd go for the lion bedding/poop but I can't because then my own cats wouldn't ever venture outside either. Good luck OP Grin

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 12/10/2019 19:48

If it's a territory thing, could I claim it by pooping there myself?🤔 or maybe just a wee?😂

OP posts:
dreichsky · 12/10/2019 20:19

I found lots of orange peel helped.

ChristmasFluff · 12/10/2019 20:22

I'm so sorry.

Nothing works

I had a (maybe demented) cat who would jump over his litter tray to poop on the utility work surface. He pissed everywhere, especially if you left anything on the floor. Handbag, Vicar of Dibley box set - all fair game.

Tried the citrus peel (all types and combinations), the foil (sort of worked by catching the pee and poop). Nowt worked.

Mindfulness may help.

But really the death of my cat was the only true solution.

I didn't try lion poo though. Cos it was in my house. It makes sense.

And human poo/wee will mean little, except maybe an encouragement to wee/poo there cos of smell (in my experience of The Cat and The Bathroom)

theoriginalmadambee · 12/10/2019 21:02

Aww they fertilize your garden, as long it is not on something edible isn't it ok?

We fence in our vegetables from our own cats Grin.

But otherwise I'm sure your poo will be quite effective - but it will attract dogs and foxes. You just can't win 🤣.

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 12/10/2019 21:07

Aww they fertilize your garden

Actually they are killing it. Already lost plants from the most popular pooping places😳

OP posts:
Inebriati · 12/10/2019 21:08

I get them crapping all over the lawn. I didn't realise it was a territorial thing, but that makes sense as we can hear them scrapping all night. It makes strimming the grass even more of a chore.

Rosewood Get off Dog and Cat Repellent Crystals work, but you have to protect them from rain.
