to think the Shark vacuum is pants

It does ok on carpet, filling the hoover everytime. Must be carpet fibres though, surely? No one makes that much dust everyday.

But on hard floor, which my whole downstairs level is, it's appalling. Hate it.

Luckily I got it super cheap on Amazon Prime day. Such a con.

I've had my Shark for about 3 years. I loved it for the first 3 or 4 months, and I remember sending photos of my newly vacuumed carpet to friends and family. After the initial excitement however, I've since grown to hate it. The suction has become fairly useless (despite washing all the filters regularly and checking all the bits I can reach.). It feels cheap and tacky and the power lead has become twisted and bent like they all seem to do. (But Dyson would fix that for free for models up to 5 years old).

I'll never buy another Shark and will go back to Dyson again as soon as I can afford a new one.

ineedaholidaynow · 12/10/2019 21:59

How often do people change their hoovers? I have one that must be nearly 20 years old, and am finally looking to replace it!

SusieOwl4 · 12/10/2019 22:08

I had an old sebo and it was great but SOOOO heavy - never had a good dyson. GTECH - hmm ok for a quick whizz over . now I have cordless shark - love it - but agree the hairs round the brushes are annoying - but it does pick up a lot !

Lougle · 12/10/2019 22:08

We love our Shark - previously Dyson diehards.

Bargebill19 · 12/10/2019 22:12

2 dogs 2 cats a messy fire and 2 humans here. I’ve got two stains and a shark - shark is way noisier but tons better than either the upright stain or the it’s cordless sister vacuum. I tend to get through a vacuum cleaner every couple of years. Shark last longer and is way easier to clean and maintain.

Bargebill19 · 12/10/2019 22:13

Dyson not stains.. face palm

fantasmasgoria1 · 12/10/2019 22:14

We have a vax power nano and it is brilliant. Neighbour has a Dyson, i vacuum sometimes for her as she is elderly and it's useless. She borrowed my vax and she said it was so much better and lighter for her. She is getting one now! With vacuum cleaners I think it depends on your particular needs.

Cocoaandbedsocks · 12/10/2019 22:24

Love my Shark after always having Dysons in the past. The hose has never blocked up and suction is great.

user1474894224 · 12/10/2019 22:27

My shark works fine on hard floors. We have hard hallway, bathrooms and kitchen.

thenightfury · 12/10/2019 22:59

People rave about them but I've recently gotten rid of mine for a good old Henry!
Ours was constantly getting blocked, running out of battery or getting all my hair trapped in the bottom. I hated mine so much, payed £350 for it and it's the worst purchase I ever made!

Babynamechangerr · 12/10/2019 23:08

Just bought a Dyson v11, and it is actually really good. I was very up in the air over spending that much on a hoover but no regrets, it's so convenient.

Can't compare with other brands though, only an old Dyson animal which is just so comparatively cumbersome with the weight and the lead.

paperandfireworks · 12/10/2019 23:29

I love my corded liftaway, but as previous posters said its always on carpet setting

Poombaa · 12/10/2019 23:34

I love my cordless duo clean. I got it as my dyson v8 just couldn’t pick up larger debris on wood floors. My OH hates it as it will literally swallow anything it hits - he spends a lot of time pulling shoe laces and cats toys out it. I have 3 Cordless dysons and in my opinion the shark cordless outclasses them in every category.

Dieu · 13/10/2019 07:51

I have a Miele, and thought it was ok. Then I went to my sister's house and used her Dyson, and then a bit later, her Shark when she replaced the Dyson.
In both instances, it struck me how good my Miele really is, and I won't take it for granted! The other two were really pretty shit.

Thevacmat · 13/10/2019 09:21

I've had a shark and a dyson and they where both no good constantly clogging and lasted 3-5 years max with mediocre performance

I now am the proud owner of a German made quality sebo Felix and it's simply the best so much better than all the rest

I highly recommend it to anyone and it's so much better than a shark

SoupDragon · 13/10/2019 09:23

Oh god - my old Dyson Animal was like this. It wouldn't pick up anything that wasn't just fluff. Everything else jammed on a stupid rubber flap by the entrance to the hose. Really badly designed (by someone who had clearly never hoovered)

Pardonwhat · 13/10/2019 09:24

I have a Shark Liftaway and I can’t fault it. Great hoover.

calmpuppycrazykids · 13/10/2019 09:28

I have the Shark Duo and I think its rubbish
I've gone back to using my old battered Hetty

Fizzypoo · 13/10/2019 09:34

My Henry has lasted over £16 years, and it was second hand off my nan.

I've wanted a cordless vacuum for a while but maybe I'm better off sticking with my reliable Henry.

TheFairyCaravan · 13/10/2019 09:40

We've got the Shark Liftaway and the Cordless Shark. I love both of them. They both pick up on hard floors and carpet. The Liftaway doesn't, and never has, fall over. We always had Dysons in the past but we'd never go back now.

Scrutler · 13/10/2019 09:41

For removing hair from the brush (on Shark and Dyson cordless - equally afflicted 3 people's worth of long curly hair), I find using a stitch ripper far, far easier than scissors.

GoingGrey50 · 13/10/2019 09:43

Love mine. Shark corded, much lighter than my old Dyson animal and it's easier to clean brushes.

DL2DH · 14/10/2019 14:30

100% agree grand on carpet but on hard floor it juat pushes debris around and then wjen you turm ot off anything you thought it did pick up falls out in a wee pile 😕 and customer care dont bother getting back to you. Want my henry back 😢

TheVanguardSix · 14/10/2019 14:37

I WAS JUST cursing my Shark which has been taking up space for a year in my cupboard. Loathe it. It’s pants. I just can’t get on with it. I can’t believe I’ve stumbled upon this thread. Grin
Thank goodness I’ve kept my trusty, reliable 10+ year old Miele. DH bought me the Shark as a present (I didn’t ask for it). Hmm

maddening · 14/10/2019 14:47

I had a Dyson animal but love my shark cordless. I was washing the filters so pulled out the Dyson while they were drying and it is rough on the carpets and like dragging a scraper over my tiles. I don't seem to have had the same issue as you with uncarpeted floors.
