Posting here for replies..

Cant believe I didn't think of asking you lot before now. Off to Blackpool tomorrow with two DC 9 and 8. What can we do that's free or cheap?

You're a lot braver than me. Blackpool on a rainy October day with two children Shock
Sorry I can't be of help, I was just admiring your bravery.

Dementedswan · 11/10/2019 22:22

🤣 I'm sure it will be fun..... I'll report back if we survive

Paddling on the beach, crabbing in Fleetwood, 2p slots (not free but can be cheap if you limit it).

Dontrainonmyparade · 11/10/2019 22:48

Paddling in wellies and raincoats. I’m not crazy.

IamaBluebird · 11/10/2019 22:54

Ages since I've been to Blackpool but Stanley park was nice.

cyberfairy · 11/10/2019 22:58

The trams to Fleetwood are fun and also Stanley Park is a brilliant park, suitable for all ages.

StyleO · 11/10/2019 23:00

The illuminations!!!

StyleO · 11/10/2019 23:04

Also, we are going in a week. Does anyone know any details for lay per ride at the pleasure beach? Can you still do it and if so, how much is it generally? Only day passes available on website.

Itsjeremycorbynsfault · 11/10/2019 23:11

Pleasure beach you have to but overall entrance now you can't just pay per ride.

Stanley Park is lovely, best park in the UK, check out 'friends of Stanley Park' page on Facebook for details of any events

The illuminations are free. They are also having some light projection events on the promenade also this month, details should be on blackpool Council Facebook page.

Stannah wyre estuary Park is also nice about 15 minute drive out

Try manfredis ice cream place on red Bank road or notariannis in South shore area, very nice ice cream!

Chickychoccyegg · 11/10/2019 23:12

@stylo you can still pay per ride but works out expensive, think its £1 a token but most rides are around 4+ tokens per ride each.

starlingsintheslipstream · 11/10/2019 23:13

Do they watch Strictly? Maybe sit in the ballroom at the Tower and watch the dancing for a bit?

Chickychoccyegg · 11/10/2019 23:14

ah thought you could, sure my friend did earlier this year, but maybe not

Chickychoccyegg · 11/10/2019 23:17

think getting wrapped up and playing on the beach/walk along the pier /2p slots/stanley park might be your best cheap/free bet.
You have to pay to get in everywhere i can think of in blackpool works out so expensive.

StyleO · 11/10/2019 23:18

I've managed to find a coat holders entrance fee of £10 Sad so presumably its niw a min of £10 just to enter?
We're a family of 4 but I only want to go on the Alice ride - my kids don't like scary rides so a few gentle rides would be enough, DD obsessed with Alice and want to share one of my favourite childhood memories with her!

LittleMissTeacup · 11/10/2019 23:45

Illuminations are free and great to walk through.
Some of the piers have small rides on which are cheaper than pleasure beach.
There are the trams which are cheap and you can walk along the front if the weather is dry.
Sometimes if you look online there’s cheap daytime tickets for stuff at the tower or winter gardens or theatre.
On the free side, walk towards Lytham St Anne’s and you can walk through the sand dunes which are lovely.
Penny Farm is a horse sanctuary which is free entry and you get to meet and pet the horses and donkeys.

LittleMissTeacup · 11/10/2019 23:49

Grundy Art Gallery is free admission too if it’s rainy.
I can’t recommend Penny Farm enough though!

OP I really don't mean to sound rude but Blackpool and free just cannot belong in the same sentence together ever! You couldnt have picked a worse place to go with a limited budget. Everything is geared up to taking obscene amounts of money from visitors.Could you not revise your plans and go somewhere more uncomercialized? I wanted to take my dd to Blackpool for the experience but when I totted up how much it was to go in the tower.pleasure beach, tussards.sealife and everywhere else I just decided it would be too expensive right now.I couldnt have taken her somewhere like that and had to say No to anything it would have been horrible for her and me....Just finding it hard to get round anything to do with Blackpool on a limited budget, especially with your kids ages, and mine at 8 yrs too! Really not trying to be sarcastic at all or offensive in any way just realistic.Mind you having said all that I have a want want want child so maybe yours are a bit more reasonable!!

DeathStare · 12/10/2019 05:46

What Sallycinnamon said.

Blackpool is ridiculously expensive and designed to part you from your cash at every opportunity. If you're after a cheap day out with kids Blackpool is definitely not the place to go.

Shockers · 12/10/2019 05:55

If it’s raining, you could go swimming. The Sandcastle is expensive, but you can stay all day. There are municipal pools at Palatine and Moor Park (Bispham).

Get the tram to Squires Gate and walk to the sand dunes- great for jumping off!

The prom at South Shore has a giant glitter ball and other sculptures, and the solarium opposite the glitter ball has a nice cafe and lots of wild bunnies in the grounds.

Stanley Park is lovely, and opposite is the DeVere hotel, with a great nature walk round from the car park to the back of the zoo, where you can spot the animals.

Shockers · 12/10/2019 05:59

And yes to the 2p slots if you want to go into the arcades. Give them a bag of 2ps to go in with.

Shockers · 12/10/2019 06:02

The Regent Cinema has a flea market underneath during the day, and the vintage cinema upstairs in the evenings. The snacks, drinks (and wine!) are reasonable too. It’s a nice experience. You can find it on Facebook.

sashh · 12/10/2019 06:30

If you go for fish and chips asked for them to be wrapped, you get more chips that way (or you used to).

TwinkleRedMoon · 12/10/2019 06:40

Stanley park is lovely. Blue Peter badge holders get into the zoo and Pleasure Beach for free.

I went to Blackpool with my son this time last year and we loved it. We went on a heritage tram ride, had a walk along the sea front looking at the illuminations, ghost Train in coral island, a walk around the pleasure beach and on 2 of the rides. We also went to slimefest that was our main reason for going.

Dementedswan · 12/10/2019 07:09

Thank you everyone! Well when I say free or cheap, I've got around £200 to spend on the day, obvs if I dont spend that.. bonus! Google says theres a toy museum there, any good?
