To think you don't just keep ringing the doorbell if no one answers?

I'm at home, was putting my two small children to bed. Ive been really under the weather all week, so we all had a bath, got in pjs and were going to bed. My doorbell rang. I ignored it (2 yr old not quite asleep and would have got up and fully woken up if I'd gone downstairs). It's cold, dark, and I was in my nightshirt. The doorbell continued to be ring repeatedly. It's really quite loud. I went downstairs and unplugged it in the end.

Surely if the house is in almost total darkness and there's no response, you stop? Everyone along the road (rural, about 7 houses) knows I have young children and it was 7.30pm, bedtime.

Aibu to think give up after a couple of goes??

would you then ring it repeatedly (upwards of 30 times I think)

The fact you can see this is unusual should indicate that this wasn’t an ordinary situation. If someone was that insistent I would assume someone was in trouble and open the door, or shout out the window. It isn’t difficult to throw a dressing gown or coat on. Your kids were up anyway so i’m not sure what your actually problem was, other than you didn’t want to open the door.

The first thing I'd think, and I know people who've had this experience, is that someone is off their face and you'll end up with that stranger, off their head, in your home.

I was brought up in a house with parents who didnt usually answer the door, but generally we could tell when it was charity collectors or salespeople.

Now I do answer the door. A couple I didnt know knocked on the door to tell me I'd left my door key in the lock which had my car keys on aswell, I was very grateful!

i don’t like answering the door either. But if it is persistent then I assume it’s an emergency of some sort. I opened the door this morning (One ring only but I felt brave) and it was two Jehovah’s Witnesses. For some reason I said = sorry I’m not really bibleiscious. Not even sure where that came from but they were pleasant enough and took their business next door. I have a camera outside too so I can monitor from anywhere.
