To ask how many own just a cordless hoover?

Might sound a daft question but it's not to me....

Need a new one and thinking of getting a cordless but wondered if that is enough on its own without a main plug in vac. 3 kids, no pets. Dh is a builder though and I hoover the hallway and living room daily because of the amount of dust and mud and general crap he brings in Hmm

Eldest ds has a dust allergy so it is important I hoover his room regularly as well as the rest of the house....I'd use it daily so just imaging how much easier and quicker it is to be in the world of cordless....

Any recommendations? Or shall I stick to a normal plug in vaccum seen as it will get used quite often....

I only have a cordless dyson, I didn't know people have more than one hoover tbh...

Paintingtheroseswhite · 11/10/2019 16:11

I've got a robot hoover. Changed.my.life Grin

Use a car vac for the stairs, job done.

You can get on with so many other things whilst the robot is cleaning. Ours has a 90 minute run time then takes itself back to its docking station to recharge

Got a shark a couple of months ago and it's an absolute beast of a machine. I'd used the Dyson corded the day before and the filth the shark got off the 'clean' carpets was disgusting Blush

pinkglitterdust · 11/10/2019 16:15

Iv had the dyson, shark and am currently using the swan hyperclean and for it being the cheapest it's really good. Great suction, a lot lighter than the other 2, easier to clean and empty and has same suction power as a corded hoover. The swan is recommended by queen of clean as a good alternative cordless. I only have a cordless and have 4 kids and also a partner that works in trade so brings a lot of stuff in with him and it's cleaned it all with no problem. I do find myself hoovering about 3xday tho as itssi easy to use. Hope this helps ur choice xx

firstimemamma · 11/10/2019 16:16

Got a dyson v 7 motor head (cordless) and use no other hoover. I personally love it. Give it a quick run around daily and give the house a more thorough go over once a week or so. Family of 3 & no pets.

boredboredandmorebored · 11/10/2019 16:18

We have a Dyson cordless and I love it. We just have the one hoover and have a dog and a cat - wouldn't need another

DeRigueurMortis · 11/10/2019 16:18

Yes.

I have the Dyson V10 animal and love it.

So much so I gave my old corded Dyson away.

It's the one with the larger dust repository.

On full power I'll admit it doesn't last much more than 10 mins, but it's so strong on that setting it's actually hard to use.

On setting 2 I can easily hover all the downstairs and setting 1, the whole house easily.

I know people love Shark - I borrowed my DM's and tbh I didn't notice much difference apart from hers is more difficult to store (ours just hangs neatly on a wall bracket in the utility).

Pandaintheporridge · 11/10/2019 16:18

I love gtech though not sure it's suitable in your home as an only hoover, with building dust etc. But I very rarely get my "proper" hoover out now at all.

Iamblossom · 11/10/2019 16:21

I have a shark and I love it but my cleaner doesn't as it runs out of battery when she does my whole house so I have just bought a second battery for it.

HappyParent2000 · 11/10/2019 16:22

People still buy corded vacs?

BlueJava · 11/10/2019 16:23

I have 2 - both cordless. One is a Dyson for doing the stairs and any spot cleaning needed. The other is a Roomba so I just put it in the room I want to clean and let it go. Love both of them - with Roomba did the stairs though! You do have to have a tidy house though to get full use of Roomba.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/10/2019 16:26

I've got a Dyson v11 absolute its brilliant

catlady3 · 11/10/2019 16:27

I've a shark cordless and it's amazing. Get a spare battery and you'll be sorted.

Yummymummy2020 · 11/10/2019 16:28

I got a cordless dyson and haven’t looked back, really light weight, great suction and makes hoovering way less of a chore(I got the v11 model)

Underyoursky · 11/10/2019 16:28

I’ve got a cordless dyson and it’s rubbish on carpets and it doesn’t last long enough to do the whole house (tiny house.)

It’s ok for hard floors eg kitchen and bathroom.

MereDintofPandiculation · 11/10/2019 16:31

Dyson V6 for upstairs and stairs - mainly wood floors. Still use the old Dyson DC01 for the downstairs carpets. Very happy with both. I can thoroughly recommend having a vacuum cleaner on every floor!

To me, ease of use is important. If the vacuum cleaner is a faff to get out, or it's the other side of a flight of stairs, then I won't get it out for a quick clean. Overall the house is cleaner with something I can use for a quick clean every few days than with a mega-clean every couple of weeks.

The V6 is great for hoovering whitefly off the plants in the greenhouse.

MadisonAvenue · 11/10/2019 16:32

I have two Dysons - a corded and a cordless. I couldn’t manage with the cordless alone, it’s not powerful enough. I just use it for quick clean ups and it’s used for car interiors.

thebakerwithboobs · 11/10/2019 16:32

I'm a Mumsnet cliche and I have a cordless Ady's on and a Shark Liftaway job. Dyson is good enough for light cleaning but not man enough for the whole house. Shark does a much better job and the liftaway bit makes stairs easy. We have the one for animals. It's brilliant.

TheQueef · 11/10/2019 16:39

I've got one of the planet destroying super miele corded. I've also got a v10 at Ddads place and really don't rate them.
As a pp finds the tiles downstairs are ok for the v7 but two door mats and the battery drains.
I'm on my third battery under warranty.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/10/2019 17:11

We have a cordless Henry and a handheld Dyson mini. We have too many stairs for me to be fagged carrying a wiry bugger around looking for sockets.

Mbeira · 11/10/2019 17:16

I have a Shark but also a fairly long haired dog and long haired child and it struggles totally with the dog hair getting wrapped round the brush roller and so I sent it upstairs and now the long haired child has to periodically cut her hair off the roller. The pet tool is the business for the stair case carpet though.

The Hoover upright plug in that I have for downstairs just needs a filter shaking out once a month. It's a beats as it sweeps as it sucks variety. And it shifts all the hair.

I clean the car interior with a bagged corded vax wet and dry. It's also very good at helping with floods in the kitchen.

HugTrees · 11/10/2019 17:18

Robot hoover. Life changing.

Goes around daily. Not as good as a dyson etc but as going daily does a great job. Have a cordless for the rest. The corded hoover was demoted to the garage for hoovering in their after DH’a woodwork

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 11/10/2019 17:29

YANBU

BloodyCats · 11/10/2019 17:33

As a cleaner I find cordless hoovers a PITA. they run out of charge so quickly and have rubbish suction.

I use a shark liftaway. It’s the best hoover I’ve ever had.

Tweetingmagpie · 11/10/2019 17:35

I used to have a Dyson but it wasn’t very good and the battery didn’t last very long so got a shark and I love it, I have a 7 bedroom house with 7 kids,4 cats and 5 dogs (dogs don’t come in except for the kitchen tbh) but it’s amazing and I don’t use any other hoover.

It’s the newest one it’s a dark red colour and it has two batteries so it lasts an hour!
