Urgent ultrasound

Hi all, long time lurker here and I'm looking for a bit of advice/reassurance.
I went to visit my gp beginning of the week, something I have been putting off but that's been nagging away at me but at first the symptoms were so vague, it didn't seem worth bothering.
After examining me, he didn't say much, said he would order a scan and send me for blood tests.
Looked at the blood test form and one of the tests is CA125, looked it up and test for ovarian cancer I believe, also I had a phone call next day to go for a scan this week! Am I right to be very concerned or are they just being over cautious?
Symptoms are:
Severe bloating all the time, almost need maternity clothes, look heavily pregnant (definitely not a pregnancy)
Need to pee all the time!
Should say the bloating isn't just in abdomen, it goes all the way up to under bust.
I have no pain whatsoever, just a lot of gas.
Question is really - is this what I think or could it be something else?
Can't find anything on the internet as to what else it could be, if anyone could help I would be grateful.
Thanks for reading. (I'm 46 btw)

Thank you everyone who has taken the time to respond here, it's very much appreciated. The scan is on Saturday, fingers crossed and will post and update.

@BarbarAnna
I am shit scared that it isn’t contained and the surgeon won’t be able to remove it all. The utter terror of the last 3 weeks will stay with me forever ☹️
I’m desperately trying to stay positive as I know I have to preserve my energy to get through the surgery but doesn’t always work

BarbarAnna · 11/10/2019 21:20

@fudgesmummy bless you. Please feel free to dm or post here if you need some support.

Jasmine82 · 12/10/2019 12:06

Hi, I've had my ultrasound this morning, I asked if anything was found and wouldn't say- just said a full report will be sent to your doctor. I asked just before I left, so you can't say if there is anything there or not and she just repeated what she said the first time.

I don’t think you can draw any conclusions from that. I have had lots of scans for different things, and some will comment, others not. I hope you get the all clear soon. Take care.

Jasmine82 · 12/10/2019 12:46

BarbarAnna- thank you, I think I'm reading too much into everything at the moment

I had a super quick ultrasound after a raised CA125 (I also googled and regretted it). I then got a letter for an appointment with a gyno at the hospital which was apparently fast tracked. I then had an urgent second scan, it was supposed to be 8-12 weeks later and was actually about 3 weeks.

I had a 8cm ovarian cyst and severe endometriosis (endo was diagnosed after a laparoscopy). I think from doctors appointment to operation was less than 8 weeks altogether.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 12/10/2019 12:57

Hope it all goes well op, am currently experiencing abnormal bleeding and pains so had blood tests last week and have a smear test next week. Horrible waiting for answers Flowers

aweedropofsancerre · 12/10/2019 13:04

They sadly don’t usually tell you during the scan as someone else has to read it. My sister had same symptoms as you and I had noticed she was very bloated the last time I saw her. She also had raised CA125 and they found a lump on her ovary during the scan and the GP told her it was cancer. She freaked out and as she had private healthcare got an appointment with a specialist who rescanned and said in his opinion he was 99.9% sure it was a cyst and not cancer. Thankfully he was correct. They removed it but it ended up growing. Sick so she ended up having a partial hysterectomy. Ovarian cancer is a silent killer sadly and there can be very little symptoms and the ones you have could also be a cyst, fibroids, endometriosis..... fingers crossed you get a positive result

aweedropofsancerre · 12/10/2019 13:05

I mean a positive outcome not result ..... think you know what I meant!

RightYesButNo · 12/10/2019 19:52

I’m sorry, OP - that’s so frustrating when they say that a full report will go to your doctor and won’t tell you anything. Even if there was nothing on your ultrasound, your tech still couldn’t say anything because, as a PP said, a specialist needs to look at all the images and make sure - it would be terrible for a tech to tell you that it looks like it’s probably okay (or not okay Confused ) to him/her, and then have it turn out to be the opposite, which is why they’re not allowed to say anything. I know the wait is so tough Flowers; I’ve been through it for an ovarian cyst.

Bluebuddha10 · 12/10/2019 21:30

By the way OP 46 is not too young for menopause. I went through it early, last period aged 42.
Hope all tests go well

Jasmine82 · 13/10/2019 04:49

Thank you all again for your replies and support.
Hopefully will hear soon.
Love to all going through the same thing or have been through it before

It's difficult, when the uncertainty continues. When is your next doctor's appointment? Is it GP, or do you have a gynae appt set up?

Jasmine82 · 14/10/2019 07:44

AuntieStella-this all happened really quickly so not sure, now I can't remember if the sonographer said my gp would contact me or if I had to contact surgery. What usually happens? Does anyone know?

Mauhea · 14/10/2019 08:16

My GP contacted me after my ultrasound - he did it as a phone consultation to let me know next steps (which was a referral to a Gastroenterologist as the radiologist suspected a meckel's diverticulum, turned out to be a 17cm ovarian cyst). I suspect the report for the ultrasound will be sent fairly quickly, the lengthy part for me was waiting for it to be added to my patient record and read by the GP. Do give the surgery a call to get a rough timeline though, the receptionist should be able to help. Fingers crossed for good news!

JustDanceAddict · 14/10/2019 08:32

You’ve done the right thing in getting it all checked out. Hope it’s a good outcome.
Btw, a mum friend of mine (ie not close) had ovarian cancer, I don’t know the full details of her symptoms but this was 3+ years ago, she had chemo and is now fine. Even if it is cancer it’s treatable.
Good luck.

custardbear · 14/10/2019 08:54

I had very similar symptoms and I had a large cystadenoma- it just needed to be removed, non cancerous but it was big )took 3L of blood/mucous etc out before the could remove it - was the size of a 6 month foetus and after removal I felt amazing !

I suspect sonographer can't tell you anything without the blood results, plus they're not qualified to. Good luck

custardbear · 14/10/2019 08:55

As for the GO surgery I'd phone this morning and ask when you can talk to the GP ASAP when the results are in

RightYesButNo · 14/10/2019 13:51

OP - I hope you’ve heard by now and if not, I would contact the surgery. I hope you’ve had news, as I know the wait is just... blech. Unmumsnetty hugs.

Jasmine82 · 14/10/2019 16:54

Hi all, many thanks again to all who have given their support and advice.
Doctor has rang me, ca125 is elevated and the scan shows a large mass around right ovary. Getting an urgent gyne appointment so hopefully will get more answers then.

My thoughts are with you Jasmine, it must be very frightening, but remember that you are now being cared for. Cross all my fingers that it comes back benign and that all is ok.

aweedropofsancerre · 14/10/2019 18:16

Jasmine82 I really hope you have the same outcome as my sister who had the same results as you. Positive thoughts for you

Winterwoollies · 14/10/2019 18:18

I am thinking of you, Jasmine. Fingers crossed for a rapid diagnosis. All of your symptoms, including the raised CA125 and the bloating, could easily be a symptom of something benign like endometriosis. I know it sounds silly to say, but try not to convince yourself of the worse. I too, had a gynae health scare recently and I probably didn’t take my own advice, admittedly. They’re working quickly for you and you will know soon. And in case of a busy mind at bedtime, try an audiobook on headphones to fill your head space. Best wishes to you xx

Duvetday8 · 14/10/2019 18:20

Thinking of you
