I do weights and strength training twice a week for 60 minutes each time. I also do 5k once to twice a week.

I eat approx 1400 cals per day, and once a week about 2000 cals on a cheat day.

Why havent I lost weight in 8 weeks?!?! Do I need to loose the cheat day? Sad

You're eating an average of 1500 calories a day and your maintenance levels are likely to be around 1700-1800 so it doesn't leave you any room for error. At your weight you will struggle to lose anything unless you cut calories way back, not a good idea.
Are you sure you can't be contented at your current weight?

QualCheckBot · 10/10/2019 17:40

Swingofthings I totally disagree with this. I was running 10K a day, 60 length front crawl in the pool, walking 12K average and cycling and I was struggling to lose weight.

OMG! That's about 4 -5 hours of exercise per day, 25 hours plus per week (if you get 2 hours of). That's elite level ironman training territory and would require a significant calorie intake to sustain! How did you keep that up?

I agree with the HIIT, interval training, whatever you want to call it, advice. You need to break sweat and get out of breath.

QualCheckBot · 10/10/2019 17:40

(if you get 2 days off per week)

PurpleDaisies · 10/10/2019 17:43

Mn seems to attract a lot of posters with body issues and eating disorders these days.

You do not need to be 8st.

PurpleDaisies · 10/10/2019 17:47

If you were 8st, your bmi would only be 17.9 and you would be underweight.

Ginnymweasley · 10/10/2019 17:55

8 stone sounds very light for your height. I'm 5'3" and last time I weighed myself I weighed 9 stone but my ideal weight is about 8 1/2 stone. I tend to go by how my clothes fit tbh. Like right now i know i need to tone up rather than loose weight as i can fit into my jeans but my belly is a little flabby. So less about weight and more about exercise to tone up.

KittyVonCatsworth · 10/10/2019 18:12

Density is different to weight. With the feathers and lead analogy, there's less mass in the pound of lead but more in the feathers so whereas you'd be able to fit a pound of lead into a matchbox, you couldn't with a pound of feathers. I'm rubbish at explaining this 😂

KittyVonCatsworth · 10/10/2019 18:13

Sorry, that was to easyandy101

KittyVonCatsworth · 10/10/2019 18:14

Or should that be more mass in lead and less in feathers 😂😂

Itsallpetetong · 10/10/2019 18:16

Pedant alert Blush Muscle is not heavier than fat, it's more dense but a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat

Absolutely.

So by that logic lead and feathers weigh the same yeah

Errr yeah. One pound of feathers, funnily enough, weighs exactly the same as one pound of lead. A pound in weight is a pound in weight no matter what is making up the weight. The size of the space that the one pound takes up is very different though.

Walnutwhipster · 10/10/2019 18:16

I'm sedentary and weigh 52kg. I would put weight on eating 1400 calories a day, let alone 2000 on a cheat day.

Itsallpetetong · 10/10/2019 18:17

Same weight, different size.

The OP is of average height and in the mid BMI range. If she cut her calorie intake for 8 weeks her weight loss would be perceptible. By that I mean it would show on the scales and if not, it would be visually obvious on her body. Clothes would be loose. Even if she just lost 1/2 lb per week. She should know if she has lost weight or mass.

Given a starting point of a healthy weight then it would be logical to assume she doesn’t gain weight easily so would have a fairly average TDEE for her age. Which in theory could be about 1500-1600 per day if she is fairly sedentary other than for 2.5 hours per week. But it should be in 1800 region. She should be loosing some weight.

If her TDEE was in the low ranges then she would have put on a lot of weight if she ate more than 1500 per day before. It’s unusual.

She is averaging 1500 per day under her current diet. It’s not working. Suggesting she was eating about that much before. Or she is eating more than 1500 per day.

Otherwise this sounds like a weight loss plateau where someone has been dieting for some time and lost a lot of weight already. That would explain a TDEE anomaly.

TheMarzipanDildo · 10/10/2019 19:03

Why in God’s name do you need to loose weight?! You have a BMI of 20-I bet you look great, even if you feel heavy right now.

HeresMe · 10/10/2019 19:04

So by that logic lead and feathers weigh the same yeah hmm

Thanks for brightening my day, I'm not sure someone could be that daft that a kilo is a kilo whatever.

Aprillygirl · 10/10/2019 19:31

You don't need to lose any weight OP. By all means carry on with the weights and strength training to keep toned, but ignore those telling you to eat fewer calories unless you want to make yourself weak and ill.

Delatron · 10/10/2019 19:46

I think you are comparing yourself to pre-baby. You’re a healthy weight and you don’t need to lose any more weight. Our bodies change after kids and seem to lay down fat differently.
Just carry on as you are and you may find you lose a bit but you shouldn’t be aiming for quick results.

Delatron · 10/10/2019 19:48

I don’t think any advice to eat 1100 calories a day to someone who is a healthy weight, has kids and does a good amount of exercise is good advice either.

NoDontLookAtMeImShy · 10/10/2019 19:51

forgot to add I'm 9'6" and 9st 3lb

Hmm

🙄🙄🙄

NoDontLookAtMeImShy · 10/10/2019 19:51

*5'6" rather

lljkk · 10/10/2019 20:36

calorie miscount or made up numbers

If OP is 40yo and never crawls out of bed she needs 1445 kcal just to stop losing weight.

I thought the volume difference fat & muscle was only about 20%; that other picture looks lot more than 20% difference.

Thank you for the advice, it's really helpful.

I use MFP, and wrt the training I do, it's with a personal trainer so its keeping my heart rate up and constantly changing. Forgot to add I also do yoga.

I am going to focus on what I need to eat to maintain from now on, as I think my body has naturally settled at its happy weight post babies!

The reason I was wanting to loose was due to the pouch I have on my stomach, but its excess skin rather than fat, which no amount of exercise will shift

ShinyBeans · 11/10/2019 10:29

I think we need to know your general activity level. I walk more than 5k every day and am the same height as you, but 1.5 stone heavier. According to Fitbit, if that's the only exercise I do, i burn around 1700 calories per day. You'll burn less because you weigh less. So if you can do 10,000 steps per day plus your exercise you should have a decent calorie deficit and see some weight loss, but it sounds like you're after toning more than losing the pounds anyway.

Delatron · 11/10/2019 10:31

Have you been checked for abdominal separation? Pilates is great for the deep core muscles. I found this most helpful after birth with the ‘pouch’ but yes excess skin isn’t fat.

Canttasteanything · 11/10/2019 12:40

I do over 10000 steps per day, and excercise 3 to 4 times per week.

I have actually seen a doctor about the excess skin who said that surgery is the only option, but I was hoping that if I lost a bit more weight it would come off the tummy!
