Should I complain?

NC as this is very outing

I ordered a keepsake dragon made from my son's babygrows for his 1st birthday. We went for the large size and all in, it was £80. We received it today and I'm quite disappointed. It doesn't look like the dragons on the website. It's head is too big and the body is so fat, the feet don't sit properly. My DP wants to complain, he's really angry. I said they'll probably just claim they're all slightly different as made from different materials etc. If I do complain, how can I word it so I'm not rude but I get my point across? I'm also not sure what I want them to do, I want to keep it and I don't want another made because I don't want to send them more babygrows. I'm so crap at complaining and I don't want to make them feel rubbish about what they've created.

I have one of these but I made it myself. The pattern is a little odd and it does look very fat from the front, I always display mine from the side.
Baby grows are really stretchy and hard to sew. I lined mine with cotton to stop the stretch, ask if they lined it.
The nostrils are awful but you could sew some others on yourself.
Here’s mine if it helps, sorry it’s the wrong angle but I’m not at home to take another photo.

What they’ve sent you is absolutely outrageous. Definitely complain. It looks like the face was done by someone who had their eyes closed

Livebythecoast · 09/10/2019 12:45

The 'proper' one has a defined head whereas yours is , well, just a blob really and I think whatever angle the photos were taken, it wouldn't look like the proper one.
Definitely complain. I would be very miffed if I paid £80 for that. It looks like something a child made (sorry)

FatDragon · 09/10/2019 12:46

@tryingtocatchthewind

Yours is amazing! That's definitely more what we thought it would look like. I will ask them if they lined it, thanks.

@Newschapter

Yeah it is uneven. Just looks all lopsided and weird.

They say on their website that they'll get the finished product out to you within 6-8 weeks of you sending the baby grows. Thursday last week was 8 weeks and we'd heard nothing so I emailed them. They said they were in high demand at the moment so production was taking longer and they assured me we'd receive it by his birthday tomorrow. Now I'm thinking, it wasn't done and they've whipped it up super quick to get it posted in time.

Nailed It! Grin

Icecreamsoda99 · 09/10/2019 12:56

I think part of the issue is that the one they have used for the face isn't plain and the boat and wheel look really out of place and distract from the facial features.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 09/10/2019 13:01

I wouldn't have had a clue what it was supposed to be if you hadn't said.

Livebythecoast · 09/10/2019 13:02

@tryingtocatchthewind - awwww, that's really lovely!
Maybe you could make one for OP!

tryingtocatchthewind · 09/10/2019 13:09

Thank you, I have been asked a few times but I don’t think I could handle the pressure of other people’s precious items!

I will take a front on photo when I get home as he does look rather fat from that angle.

EnglishRose13 · 09/10/2019 13:10

It looks like a mythological sea creature.

flossletsfloss · 09/10/2019 13:14

That is awful OP. Defo complain. Gutted.

mcmooberry · 09/10/2019 13:31

Yes definitely complain, it is not up to any reasonable standard (and neither is the one from the website imo)
Take lots of pictures, stay calm but be firm that you are not paying £80 from that. Say what you want i.e. to keep it but pay £10 or a maximum of £20, don't be vague. Be clear that you chose that company based on reviews and are shocked and disappointed with the end result. Good luck!

NoSauce · 09/10/2019 13:40

£80?? Shock

I would be asking for a refund OP. It’s that bad it’s funny. Even though of course it’s not.

Lllot5 · 09/10/2019 13:42

I think I’m living in a parallel universe sometimes. You bundle up your old baby gros send them off, £80 quid! Later they send you this thing. Blimey no wonder you’ve got the hump.

Knittedfairies · 09/10/2019 13:45

I have trouble seeing anything like a dragon in the photos you posted; definitely complain.

Coralfish · 09/10/2019 13:45

I need to go into this business!! £80?! And the customers send you the fancy fabric - all you need is some cheap calico for lining and some stuffing? Is it a CE marked toy or labelled 'display purposes only' If the latter you could stuff it with £1.50 Argos pillow filling!

FatDragon · 09/10/2019 13:51

I've just taken these photos and it's even worse than I realised originally. The birds eye view is awful! Drafting my email now.

Yes, that's awful. Sorry OP.

tryingtocatchthewind · 09/10/2019 14:03

Crikey that is shit! Excuse my french but that side on view is dreadful.
The head is just awful. I can tell just from looking it’s not lined with anything

QualCheckBot · 09/10/2019 14:05

Is it upside down? Wheres its head and tail?

AnneKipanki · 09/10/2019 14:10

It is awful. Definitely complain. The new pictures confirm it .

Shinysun · 09/10/2019 14:29

It's so bad I cant stop chuckling. GrinGrin

It looks a bit like a pleased little hippo with one of its legs broken.

Rivkka · 09/10/2019 17:05

It looks like a pissed hippo.
