What was this 90s kid's programme?!

I have this strong memory of watching a series at primary school (Scotland) in the 90s, where they had to collect big golden pieces of a jigsaw - I think it made a castle - by solving riddles? I can still remember the song, and I think it had the line 'to save the world of Panamar', or some kind of made-up place name starting with 'P'. Please help me remember it! I can still vividly remember the excitement when they wheeled in the humongous tv to watch the next installment!

What was the programme with the big spiders in it? Paperchase?

RhiWrites · 06/10/2019 05:52

My mum was the reading consultant for Look and Read and wrote a lot of the songs. She’ll be pleased it’s so well remembered. Smile

jakesmommy · 06/10/2019 07:06

I remember watching Through the Dragons Eye and Geordie Racer at Primary School, so that would have been about 1988/89.

BiBiBirdie · 06/10/2019 07:15

@RhiWrites your mum is a hardcore legend amongst late 80s/ early nineties school children.

And yes to the PP who mentioned Wizadora, my younger sister lived that show. I can still remember the theme tune.

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 06/10/2019 07:27

I'm showing Spywatch to my Y4 class but my absolute favourite is The Legend of the Lost Keys. Absolutely love its feeling of menace.

Kitkatbar2018 · 06/10/2019 07:35

Wow talk about a blast from the past! Does anyone recall Ghost Writer - it was about a group of kids solving mystery and a ghost helped them out by writing clues etc

Fluffsmum · 06/10/2019 07:56

I remember these too. Not the scary one though. Off to Google.

Does anyone remember one educational/ school series about a peregrine falcon? I watched it in the late 80s, early 90s and it was dated then.

I rewatched through the dragons eye a few years ago. I was sad that the quality was not what I remembered!

RhiWrites · 06/10/2019 08:13

The Peregrine Falcon one was Sky Hunter, also Look and Read. I’m fairly expert in these because we watched them all! Briefly saw a bit of Badger Girl being filmed too which was pretty exciting as a kid.

@BiBiBirdie I’ll tell her that, cheers! They were classic TV.

StarlitTrees · 06/10/2019 08:35

DonnaPaulsenSpecter wizadora we adore her! You're definately of my era!
Also Bernard's watch, the raggy dolls, bodger and badger.
Then weekend TV of inspector gadget, the gummi bears, sharks and George, clarissa explains it all and sabrina!
Don't make them like they used to! 😂

StarlitTrees · 06/10/2019 08:39

Oh my gosh! To those who mentioned the little storyteller, I wouldn't have remembered by the name, but remembered by who mentioned Morris and Doris! Just found it on YouTube and I can still remember them word for word! I remember sitting in the kitchen listening to those cassettes over and over! I loved those twin hamsters from magic Mountain!!

BiBiBirdie · 06/10/2019 08:44

@StarlitTrees, I have Clarissa and Raggy Dolls on dvd, as well as Fraggle Rock, Trapdoor and Rainbow Bright.
For the DCs. who have never watched them Honest Blush
My fave though of Saturday kids TV was the Racoons.

Annaskies · 06/10/2019 09:10

@RhiWrites that's amazing, I can still remember so many of the songs. It was my favourite time of the week primary school to watch a new episode. Was there a fairground series of look and read? With some menacing men in it?

Annaskies · 06/10/2019 09:14
Snooks1971 · 06/10/2019 09:15

@hibiscus71 Paperplay! With Itsy and Bitsy the spiders. Just watched it on YouTube and it’s only just dawned on me that the spiders were gloves worn by the SAME PERSON! Mind blown Shock

Annaskies · 06/10/2019 09:20

Oh wow thank you whoever mentioned the little story teller. I have been trying to remember what those cassettes were for years as it's such a strong childhood memory the music etc and voice of the narrator but I could never think of the names to be able to search anything.

pottypotamus · 06/10/2019 09:24

I remember watching dark towers and sky hunter (was it about a stolen peregrine falcon?)
Am I totally making it up or was there some kind of thing called wordy or wordee?

StarlitTrees · 06/10/2019 09:34

BiBiBirdie I have Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers and Sabrina on DVD!
Oh and Bertha (I'm yet to find someone else who remembers it!) Bertha was a factory machine and its all stories from in the factory, there was an episode where they were making boxes and there was a mouse inside Bertha who kept making holes in them. Classic TV 😂

hibiscus71 · 06/10/2019 09:35

Snooks1971 I see from the username we are of the same era my friend! Paperplay! Youtube, here I come!

Bluebird797 · 06/10/2019 09:38

Loved Through the Dragons Eye. But I had nightmares about Charn for years!

refraction · 06/10/2019 09:59

Ahhh I remember hating it when the programme had a break and Wordie came on to teach us or have I made this up? Not through the dragons eye but the look and read shows.
Badger girl
Dark Towers
The space one
Georgie racer.

Awww Wordie and magic magic E makes me smile now.

RhiWrites · 06/10/2019 10:58

Through the Dragons Eye was the first Look and Read without Wordie. He was a typewriter ball and very dated by the time he got retired.

There was a Fairground one @Annaskies I think that might have been the very first. The song went “fair’s fair on the fairground”.

OP here, popping back just to say how happy I am that all these lovely memories have been triggered in people's minds - was surprised to see the thread had got to 3 pages!
Ah the good old days...

As this seems a popular thread with 90s kids, I read on DigitalSpy that The Demon Headmaster has a remake and I think it starts this week or next, if anyone's interested :)
