What was this 90s kid's programme?!

I have this strong memory of watching a series at primary school (Scotland) in the 90s, where they had to collect big golden pieces of a jigsaw - I think it made a castle - by solving riddles? I can still remember the song, and I think it had the line 'to save the world of Panamar', or some kind of made-up place name starting with 'P'. Please help me remember it! I can still vividly remember the excitement when they wheeled in the humongous tv to watch the next installment!

Loved this programme as a kid, Boris was my favourite Grin I also loved the dragon, what was his name?

DonnaPaulsenSpecter · 05/10/2019 22:19

Ah the memories of the TV being wheeled out in school just to watch this. Precious memories. They certainly do not make them like this anymore!

onemouseplace · 05/10/2019 22:24

I remember Magic E!

I was just looking this up to see if it rang any bells and got drawn into a You Tube rabbit hole to discover that Dark Towers (which I do remember) was written by Andrew Davies of all people.

For literally a decade or so I have had this fuzzy memory of children hunting for golden pieces, it really bugged me and through this thread now the mystery is solved - through the dragons eye! Thank you OP Smile

Take the High Road or Rab C Nesbitt.

kathryn19801 · 05/10/2019 22:32

Geordie racer... was that about pigeons?? I always have a vague memory of a pigeon programme on the big TV in primary school. Think there was a game to go with it on the one humongous BBC computer in the school.

raspberryk · 05/10/2019 22:39

Yep Geordie Racer was about racing pigeons in Newcastle. Really odd.

TheLolaMontez · 05/10/2019 22:46

Did anyone else watch "legend of the lost keys" with Andrew Sachs? That was another educational one - it was great!

ReanimatedSGB · 05/10/2019 22:47

Yeah but how many of you remember Candle Cove?

MaidenMotherCrone · 05/10/2019 22:56

Or Pandora's Box?

MaidenMotherCrone · 05/10/2019 23:00

Sorry that one's from the 70's.

SnackBadger · 05/10/2019 23:03

Loved Through The Dragon’s Eye’. I remember one of the kids knitted a scarf saying ‘Help! Charn’ because Charn couldn’t read. Loved Maurice, Boris and Doris.

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 05/10/2019 23:10

The dragon was Gorwen, I think. Great programme! I loved the little furry critters - widgets??

AGermFreeAdolescent · 05/10/2019 23:11

North or South
East or West
The Quest
To save the life of Pelamar, goes far
Look bravely through the Dragon's Eye
And fly

Yes, I remember the theme tune off by heart. There were also two other versions of it lol.

Does anyone remember the L&R programme that came after it, the one about an orange alien that came to Earth?

Thewheelsarefallingoff · 05/10/2019 23:12

Geordie Racer was my favourite, closely followed by Dark Towers (I think it was called).

100PercentThatBitch · 05/10/2019 23:14

.

AGermFreeAdolescent · 05/10/2019 23:15

BiBiBirdie
Through the Dragons Eye was brilliant. We then had worksheets to do afterwards in our classroom.

I forgot about the worksheets until I read your comment!

Sashtag · 05/10/2019 23:18

@AGermFreeAdolescent

Earth Warp. It was no Dragon's Eye.

hotchocolateee · 05/10/2019 23:22

Omg through the dragons eye. I once got star of the afternoon at school by watching that- I was the only one ENTHRALLED by the show. Loved it!

MabelStable · 05/10/2019 23:25

There was also one called Dark Towers with a terrifying ghost of a tall knight.

DonnaPaulsenSpecter · 06/10/2019 00:14

Look, I need more to remember Wizadora and Rosie and Jim.. please take a walk down memory lane with me!

Annaskies · 06/10/2019 00:46

There was a look and read that was about a funfair as well, May have just been called funfair?

I loved magic e! Still sing it now!
Rat becomes rate with me,
Hat becomes hate with me
Magic magic e, magic magic e!

Dark towers was the best. They were all a bit scary weren't they!

YouthGoneMild · 06/10/2019 01:35

@Thewheelsarefallingoff Dark Towers was terrifying!! I clearly remember being scared stiff watching it at school.

malmi · 06/10/2019 02:02

Through the dragons eye was describing a nuclear-type meltdown (Veetacore explosion) that killed all life for miles around. It was horrifying. Basically Chernobyl with puzzles.

TeeniefaeTroon · 06/10/2019 02:06

Dark Towers!! Scared me when I was at school. The boy from Space is sounding familiar too. Off to google!
