To be scared of anaesthetic?

I am having an operation at the end of October and I keep getting cold feet as I'm so scared of the thought of anaesthetic. Please tell me IABU and that all will be fine!

Could I ask for your experiences if you've ever had surgery?

Well, you could always have the op nineteenth century style with no anesthetic. But something tells me that should be scarier. Just bring that thought to mind when the irrational makes its presence felt.

Blutopia I just wanted to say how much I sympathise with you, I also have severe emet and beg for every anti-emet going, I have had 4 GAs in the past few years and luckily have had no nausea after so hopefully you were just unlucky last time, I also had two c sections in the past 18 months and I was worse with those, I cried on the anaesthetist as soon as I saw him and was convinced I was going to be sick as soon as the spinal went in (I wasn't) they ended up sedating me as soon as the baby was out as I was flapping that much! Horrible horrible phobia to have

Thanks @HicDraconis, that's helpful! I'm not as nervous this time around as I know I survived the last one, despite feeling fairly horrific, so I will suck it up (and plead with thd next anaesthetist Smile).

Thanks @Lauren83, yeah it can be a bit of a drag can't it. Its getting to the shittiest time of year for us now, noro season. But I'm getting older and more accustomed to trying to face things as they happen, rather than waste my life fretting about what might be - catastrophising helps no-one, right!!

@TrueFriendsStabYouInTheFront - I really hope your operation was a success & you're recovery is going well 😊

*your, not you're 🙄

I bloody love it if I’m honest! I’m high risk due to BMI under 14 and unstable blood electrolytes causing low bp and abnormal heart arrhythmia, severe acid reflux etc. Four major surgeries in four months all under GA and all just a bloody nice rest for a few hours 😅 it’s the fasting I really struggle with, as although I have anorexia nervosa I rely on coffee to get through to about seven pm normally so tend to end up very hangry and faint. Don’t be afraid to ask for a bed to lie down on, or a fluid drip pre op if you’re waiting all day and start to feel poorly. Good luck too! 🥰
