My wife is demanding pants, but I don’t want to offend, either way?!?!

If you wear pants then it’s a skirt! Although I know blokes who do as there can be ‘chafing’ issues.

Grumpyrealist77 · 05/10/2019 19:37

Cork, County Cork!!!! No cock....Grin

There’s gonna be a fair few Irish kilts anyways

Do you know this for a fact or are you just assuming? I’ve never seen a man wearing a kilt at a wedding over here.

treeofwhispers · 05/10/2019 19:38

Compromise and wear an underslip?Grin They flare less than a kilt so any skirt lifting will not show up your Crown Jewels only a lovely lacy slip!Grin

TimeforanotherChange · 05/10/2019 19:40

Pants less is something that non Scots do thinking they're being authentic.

? Is it a regional thing? I'm a Fifer, and none of my family have ever worn pants under a kilt.

rhnireland · 05/10/2019 19:40

I am from Cork, wear the pants or be prepared to have all the guests see your willy

TooManyPaws · 05/10/2019 19:43

I'm Scottish and the only people I've known who wore pants under the kilt were wearing hire. I used to work as a barmaid in a place that did weddings and twenty-firsts every night of every weekend, and I've lost track of the number of times that I've been flashed by drunken kilt-wearers. No one I know would think to wear pants - too naff! 😁

Pinkkahori · 05/10/2019 19:45

I've been to a lot of Irish weddings (Irish and in my 40s) and I've never seen a man in a kilt at one.

Is it a recent trend? I went to lots of weddings in my 20s and 30s but not many in the last 5 years.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 05/10/2019 19:45

@TimeforanotherChange I went to a wedding in Fife once and they didn't wear underwear either, maybe it is regional because I've been to weddings in Edinburgh where underwear was definitely worn. I just thought it was personal preference. My dad always wore underwear but he always hired kilts.

Well...er...this has pretty much done me!!!!Grin
To the previous poster who said a sporran and a properly fitting kilt will never be a problem, that wasn’t the reason for my question. Thanks for your input tho!

The reason for my question has pretty much been answered by rnhireland!!

My wife met the hens from Cork and fears that their love of the craic might cause the offence!!!

Pants it is then (unfortunately) with something weighty in my sporran!!Wink

If it’s minus weather wear pants.

Kaykay06 · 05/10/2019 19:55

My ex is an islander and no pants were worn. My sons wore kilts recently and pants were worn. Not a fan of kilts (am from highlands of Scotland)

TooTrueToBeGood · 05/10/2019 19:57

To be fair, lots of Fifers probably don't wear pants with anything else either.

I’m wondering how you know this! I went to a wedding recently with loads of men wearing kilts. I wouldn’t have the faintest clue what was underneath - and neither would I want to!

HeadintheiClouds · 05/10/2019 20:00

No Irishman would wear a kilt to a wedding Confused. You’ll be a minority of one.

Butchyrestingface · 05/10/2019 20:00

Her “friends” will try to lift it, apparently?!

I'm afraid I'd be telling her to tell her friends to get tae fuck or face losing a hand.

In my mispent youth I went to a lot of formal dances/parties/weddings in Fife. Although my memories of those days are hazy (far too much gin) I don't recall many pants.

Dh's family are from the Highlands and pants are worn.

TimeforanotherChange · 05/10/2019 20:08

@TooTrueToBeGood Grin.

Probably not. I'm from Kirkcaldy originally - or as my Glaswegian GP once said, 'Oh, the fucking rough end of Fife, hey?'

Dora26 · 05/10/2019 20:12

Am Irish and have never heard of an “Irish kilt”

slashlover · 05/10/2019 20:15

Ask them how they would feel if someone tried to lift their dress, even if they were wearing underwear. Men in kilts are also protected by the upskirting ban so these "friends" could find themselves in serious trouble.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 05/10/2019 20:20

I can’t say I’ve ever looked. Maybe tartan boxers? Otherwise - won’t it be scratchy?

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 05/10/2019 20:23

My Irish friend doesn't wear pants with his.

Grumpyrealist77 · 05/10/2019 20:25

Thanks for all the helpful advice guys, really appreciate all the different views!! Fife seems to be the place for me!!

The Irish DEFINITELY have kilts, but as to whether there’ll be any at this wedding remains to be seen. That might be a wind up...! However I do know that there will be three or four Scottish kilts in attendance.

Thanks for the giggle guys!!

Ok where and when in Cork...?
