Aibu to go the gym and then work and not shower?

Aibu to go to a gym class in the morning and then straight to work without a shower?

It's that time of the month and I thought I don't fancy using the showers when on. I thought I could quickly wash under armpits or whack some deodorant on and change into clean clothes and go to my office. I'm on my own all day tomorrow. However, my sister thinks this would be disgusting. Aibu to do this? I'm not an overly sweaty person anyway and don't think I would smell.

Regardless of whether you think you sweat, you do. It's the body's natural way of regulating your temperature. That sweat will sit on your skin and transfer to your clothes. You may not smell straight after you leave the gym but as the day goes by you will stink.

Mummadeeze · 02/10/2019 20:43

We used to do Zumba at lunchtime, get sweaty and then use baby wipes before rushing to the next meeting. There wasn’t time to shower. Had no idea people would be thinking it was really gross. Feel a bit embarrassed now!

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 02/10/2019 20:48

It's your call. But I wouldn't. I never leave for work without a shower: gyn or no gym Blush

ElizaDee · 02/10/2019 21:52

If you don't want to bleed all over the showers, could you try a mooncup?

Bishbosh84 · 02/10/2019 21:54

God there are some proper overreactions on this thread. Blimey. OP, do what you want

Sayhellotothethings · 02/10/2019 21:59

Can't imagine not showering when I'm on!!
I used to work with somebody who would go for a 30 min power walk on lunch and come back with sweat literally dripping down his face and wet hair like somebody had tipped a bucket over his head. But it was sweat. It was disgusting.

I moved away from him after a year of sitting by him because I couldn't cope with it any more.

Leftielefterson · 02/10/2019 22:06

I literally can’t think of anything worse tbh OP. It’s a bit filthy isn’t it? I don’t get people who work out, don’t shower and stay in their work our clothes ALL day. A shower takes 2 minutes. It’s just filth.

You've either led a very sheltered life or you don't know what literally means literally.

OldGranvilleHouse · 03/10/2019 01:00

Got to shower, I think.

CandyCrush321 · 03/10/2019 01:04

Bloody hell there are some holier than thou nincompoops on this thread.

YANBU OP.

Not everyone sweats or smells after a gym workout!! It’s not disgusting FFS. It depends on whether you get sweaty after your workout but I bet you no one will even notice you’ve been to the gym.

LizB62A · 03/10/2019 01:18

Grim.

We used to have someone who used a Boris bike for the c. 1 mile journey from his mainline station to the office.
He never showered - figured he didn't sweat so why should he.

He stank

lilabet2 · 03/10/2019 01:22

I'd be far more worried about other people's germs on the gym equipment (think faecal bacteria, colds/flu viruses, possibly norovirus) than I would about my own stink (which would also be a bit grose tbh!

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 03/10/2019 01:25

If you're not sweaty enough to warrant a shower then you're not doing it properly!

Countryescape · 03/10/2019 01:51

Yuck!! If you have your period that is even more reason to shower. What is your rational for not showering because you have your period?

minesagin37 · 03/10/2019 01:53

No way. I would feel crap all day.

minesagin37 · 03/10/2019 01:56

My husband says 'it's okay I don't smell'. He can't smell himself but I can smell him!

WatchingTheMoon · 03/10/2019 01:58

I love competitive MN shower threads.

Unless you spend the entire day with a shower poised over your head, you are literally the dirtiest, smelliest person that has ever lived.

Anyone who hasn't had a shower in the last 10 minutes instantly reeks and everyone can tell (obviously it's not possible to know because what about all the people who don't have a shower but don't smell. It's not like you ask every single person, you just assume the non-stinky people have had a shower.)

Having said that, I couldn't go to the gym and not have a shower, that's a bit grim.

"Answer me this; when you’ve had sex, do you clean yourself off after or just pull up your underwear and head off to work ??"

Reminds me of a flatmate I once had. I could hear her and her boyfriend going at it, then one second after they finished, she would run to the shower. Literally the second they finished.

PenelopeFlintstone · 03/10/2019 02:02

The lady next to me at work goes to the gym and walks on the treadmill for 40 minutes or so. There’s no time for a shower. She doesn’t smell at all.
Over-the-top shower competitiveness on here.

Beautiful3 · 03/10/2019 02:43

You need to wash after a work out, especially if you're on your period. We had someone at work, who used the gym during lunch breaks. He didn't shower, just masked it with deodrant. We didn't say anything to him but he smelled. Have respect for yourself and others by washing.

Toastymash · 03/10/2019 03:07

How come you don't want to use the gym showers when you're on? Just curious.

I wouldn't dream of not showering after a workout but I'm a sweaty Betty. My husband has this magic ability to go straight out from the gym and smell fine. I don't know how he does it

ShippingNews · 04/10/2019 05:56

" I don't think I smell" - this is something that smelly people say . Please do the rest of the world a favour and have a shower.

Weathergirl1 · 04/10/2019 06:22

I'm also not getting why there's more need to shower when menstruating? Clearly if using pads then there would be more mess, but I've never really felt any different (in terms of cleanliness) during my period when using a tampon or mooncup - OP doesn't actually say what sanitary products she's using...

StarlightLady · 04/10/2019 06:53

I would shower regardless of whether l was on a period or not. But l fail to understand why the period issue is relevant to not showering.

MRex · 04/10/2019 07:02

If you don't sweat in a gym session then you aren't working hard enough and might as well not bother because you aren't increasing your fitness. Even if you're only sweating a little, by the afternoon you will really stink. I wondered how on earth people could be so stinky sometimes on the tube and now I know. It's vile, just wash!

Aprillygirl · 04/10/2019 07:24

I also was wondering why a poster was boasting of having several showers a day while on her period. Perhaps she doesn’t know of the availability of tampons, moon cups etc these days to prevent the blood from dripping down your legs Hmm
