To expect holiday park to do more.

We’ve come to a UK holiday park for the week. This morning we woke up to no water. Phoned reception to find that there was a burst water main through the night. The holiday park has its own water supply.

We were able to pick up 3 x 500ml bottles of water but that was it. We were told that the supple should be back on by lunch time. We decided to head out and made our way back about 3ish. Still no water. Again phoned the reception and asked for an update. I was informed there was no update, I then asked if there was a plan in place if there was still no water for the rest of the day. I was told, there was no plan and that he wasn’t sure what his manager had been told.

For the size of the holiday park, I would have thought they should really have a plan in place and that all staff members should know what the plan im situations like this. The on-site shop now has no water, we will have to drive out to get some. We also have friends who stay near by so we can shower/bath the toddler at theirs.

Would I be within my rights to put in a complaint about the lack of information, lack of plan and lack of bottled water.

Should have back up water supplies and be far more apologetic. Very, very stressful, especially if you have no car and young children. When I go to Park resorts it'll be as a single parent and I will have saved up all year and gone by train, no car. This would upset and stress us all.

Straycatstrut · 02/10/2019 18:28

Even if they walked to the farm park, they could walk to the co or get a bus/taxi.
It’s hugely inconvenient, I get that, but if they NEED it, they’d do it.

I'd haul my 7 and 3 yr old boys away from the pool/entertainment for a boring, upsetting, whingy, expensive bus trip to get us some water. Yaaay. I'd expect the park to refund me the bus fare and cost of the water and hope they suggested something to make up for any fun the situation ruined. This could be some families only break.

DamonSalvatoresDinner · 02/10/2019 18:43

I just searched bus fare from the Co-op to Craig Tara for my lot (me, DH and 3 weans). One way it starts at £8.20!

Is that how much buses cost these days for a 0.4mi ride? ShockShock

lyralalala · 02/10/2019 18:46

It’s a special fare for the park @DamonSalvatoresDinner - it’s crazy expensive

JacquesHammer · 02/10/2019 18:48

If your toddler has excema you should be bathing them less often like once a week only

It’s frustrating to see posts like this. Are you really suggesting as a faceless stranger on the Internet you know better than the OP her own child’s treatment?

OP - I would expect a partial refund and for the park to be providing bottled water rather than simply “running out”.

Not being rude, but you sound like someone who struggles with reading comprehension.GrinGrin
Oh well said! @Reallybadidea!

LakieLady · 02/10/2019 18:54

They should be hiring portaloos and getting lots of water delivered to each chalet.

Stressedmummyof4 · 02/10/2019 19:07

Asda Tesco and Iceland deliver on to site if your thinking down that line, the 97 bus is £3 return to Ayr if I remember right for an adult goes right by he co-op in Alloway/Dunure. The site are working on it I've seen the posts on the Facebook pages. It wouldn't be unreasonable to ask for a refund of sorts. But it would be a partial as you are still using the site and caravan ie not abandoning your holiday. For those of you who are saying a colleague to nip to Asda for bottled water it's the biggest site in Scotland this wouldn't even cover a quarter of the park. They need to think about getting a lorry delivery if they can't get it fixed soon, the weekend arrivals will be coming soon. Has it closed the pool down too?

timshelthechoice · 02/10/2019 19:35

How do they expect guests to use the toilet and wash? They should be refunding everything as a good business practice.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/10/2019 19:54

Tbh I'd be overall concerned about their risk management if they can't even handle a 1day water outage. What if there was a norovirus outbreak or a terrorist threat? Have they even planned any risk situations?

Cleverplayonwords · 02/10/2019 20:06

Not being rude but you sound like one of the stereotypical English tourists who go on hold to Spain etc and complain about the heat and eat a full English breakfast because of 'foreign muck

I wouldn't think there were many English people visiting craig Tara (could be wrong of course).

GettingABitDesperateNow · 02/10/2019 20:34

I'd be expecting them to supply drinking water at least, the massive ones you get abroad. Surely that's a minimum! Its just a supermarket trip for them

managedmis · 02/10/2019 20:36

I'd be heading home tbh

tweedledeedo · 02/10/2019 20:55

@Cleverplayonwords I'm English and know loads that go to Craig Tara!

Stressedmummyof4 · 02/10/2019 21:12

@Newmum102 just to let you know the water is up and running again it might take a wee while to make its way round the park but they were reconnected an hour ago!

Newmum102 · 03/10/2019 08:43

Sorry just getting all messages read.

The water came back on last night. As I mentioned previously it’s just a pain in the backside and an inconvenience. Went to the nearest co-op managed to get a couple of bottles of water but they were almost cleared out.

As for the pp who claims I must be an English tourist. Not English and never been to Spain! Sorry! I don’t even like full
English breakfast. Also I love the heat but thanks!

Thankfully we have a car so haven’t needed to rely on public transport or staying in the park for water, toilet etc.

Not really bothered about a refund, we didn’t pay much for our stay, was just thinking they should really have a plan for situations like these. Especially as it seems it’s not the first time it’s occurred.

You ABSOLUTELY need to get at least a partial refund!
