If a birth certificate is an original or a photocopy?

OP posts:
Brandnewshit · 02/10/2019 14:55

Where did you get the certificate from.
Surely if it's a duplicate from the official means because you lost it you have an official copy.
If it's the original it's the original.
Obviously

WhatTheFluck · 02/10/2019 14:58

It's common sense Italian. Honestly.

As I said before, photocopies will not be accepted. I think I previously had my original and made a photocopy but somewhere along the way lost the original

Other search engines are available. Everything does not have to be “Googled”.

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 02/10/2019 15:01

I photocopied one of the children’s birth certificates recently and the photo copy actually had copy right up the page, you can’t see that on the original itself. This was a Scottish birth certificate

Bellringer · 02/10/2019 15:03

Take it to any solicitor or your local registers office. Are you sure work need original? Won't passport do as Id?

italianfiat · 02/10/2019 15:04

It's common sense Italian. Honestly.

Ironic.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 02/10/2019 15:05

It's common sense Italian. Honestly.

Common sense is knowing what your own birth cert looks like at age 35. Confused

CAG12 · 02/10/2019 15:08

@italianfiat 😂🤭 exactly what I was thinking

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 02/10/2019 15:09

You can get on MN but not google?

Bellringer · 02/10/2019 15:09

The actual Registration is kept by registrar. Parents get original copy, you can buy more of these from same office. A solicitor will verify original copy.
Any further photocopies not issued by registrar are just copies, no good for official purposes

WhatTheFluck · 02/10/2019 15:10

Work definitely need the original.
Well I am not alone in not being sure if its an original or not so it's not just me. Even people on here have said they can't tell the difference.

OP posts:
VladmirsPoutine · 02/10/2019 15:10

This thread keeps getting weirder and weirder. I'm more interested in why they need your birth cert... surely a drivers license and or passport should suffice. Even when I've had to do security clearances an 'original copy' of my birth cert wasn't required.

italianfiat · 02/10/2019 15:11

Well I am not alone in not being sure if its an original or not so it's not just me.

Yes you are. You are the only person who knows what it looks like.

Even people on here have said they can't tell the difference.

People on here haven't seen it.

And you talk to me about common sense Confused

WhatTheFluck · 02/10/2019 15:13

Grow up Italian. Getting boring now and you are just picking my posts apart.

I don't know why they need to see the birth certificare but that's what they have asked for so it's what I have to provide.

OP posts:
italianfiat · 02/10/2019 15:17

Grow up Italian.

Erm

Getting boring now and you are just picking my posts apart

If by picking your posts apart you mean pointing out the obvious then yes, yes I am.

WhatTheFluck · 02/10/2019 15:22

You carry on then my love as I won't be replying to you anymore. Don't know why you bother posting if you don't want to be helpful. Don't know why you take the time out of your day to leave sarcastic responses. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Thanks for all those who have replied politely.

OP posts:
BinkySodPlop · 02/10/2019 15:28

Ok, so if you photocopied your own previously, you know what the paper was which it was copied on to. Official certificates are not on normal office paper, and they are not A4 sized, so unless you copied onto thick, cream paper and cut to size, it should be clear when you feel it.

iboopyournose · 02/10/2019 15:35

Go to the registrars and get a copy from them if you are unsure, you can usually call and then pick it up on the day.

IAmALazyArse · 02/10/2019 15:46

Irresponsible? So you have never lost anything oh saintly one?

Not any of my important documents🤷

IAmALazyArse · 02/10/2019 15:51

Re why they need to see it for other pp. Drivers license is not a nationality proof. So employers have to see either passport or BC.

Funghi · 02/10/2019 15:52

No idea why you’re getting such a hard time, OP.

There are very many reasons someone might not know if their BC is a photocopy, I think PP are just bored and/or ignorant.

The ‘original’ is in itself a copy. It’s an entry written into the register and as such is
Government property so cannot be obtained by a member of the general public
or the person the information pertains to.
Anyone, if they can identify the entry, is entitled to purchase a copy of
the information contained on the "Original" certificate.

You can tell if it’s an issued copy by the paper and watermark etc. If it’s a photocopy then it’ll be in different paper, similar to that you’d come across every day.

If you’re still unsure i’d take it in and see what your employer says. You can always order another copy if they’re not happy with it.

theemmadilemma · 02/10/2019 15:54

A certified copy is the same as an original. It sounds like that's what you have and will be accepted.

ElizaPancakes · 02/10/2019 15:59

You don’t have a photocopy but you might have a copy.

I have a copy ordered via wherever my mum ordered it from when she realised mine was missing.

Do you not have a passport for proof of who you are? Driving licence? If you’re not willing to just send to your employer which would seem like the logical thing to do Confused

NorthEndGal · 02/10/2019 16:00

Is the employer allowed to ask for a birth certificate?

Idontwanttotalk · 02/10/2019 16:07

Either take your original BC in or send it by registered post. (Cost around £7).They should then return it in person or send it back by registered post.
