Regret booking a flight to Agadir!

Asvan · 01/10/2019 22:55

I don't know what came over me, but this morning I ended up booking Ryanair flights to Agadir for the Easter holidays. The flights are for me, my husband and three kids aged 4, 8 and 10.

The flights were cheap but now I am really regretting it. I can't seem to find any decent family type hotels that are within our budget and i've seen mixed reviews about Agadir being a party destination. I just wanted it to be a nice relaxing break for us.

Is there any way I can cancel the flights? Or change to another destination? I can't afford to lose £600 but I'm so nervous about going that I don't know what to do.

I've not been to Agadir but have been to Marrakech and Essaouira, the latter I would recommend, Marrakech I wouldn't with very young children unless you plan to stay in a swanky hotel in the palmerie outside of the city and not leave other than to go to a club say another hotel (this is what a lot of the celebs do). Driving in Morocco was surprisingly easy other than in Marrakech which was utter madness but DH loved, so don't limit yourself to Agadir just because that's where your flights go.

Thanks for your reply.

Also, does anyone know what the weather will be like in April? We were hoping to be able to use the pools.

We are on such a tight budget and I can't believe I've booked something unsuitable on a whim.

Have you looked at Airbnb? Lots of apartments to rent with a pool...

LittlefairyMum · 01/10/2019 23:27

Try RUI, all inclusive works out cheap. Very cheap compared to anywhere in Europe.
The 5 is worth the extra few bob but the 4 is great value too.

You should get great weather, up around 28 Smile

Etino · 01/10/2019 23:29

Why on earth would you stick to hotels in Marrakech @LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook?!
Unless it’s changed massively in the last 2 years I found it friendly interesting and easy. Confused Hmm

30to50FeralHogs · 01/10/2019 23:34

I stayed here a few years ago with my 3 DCs, similar ages to yours, maybe a little older.

We had a lovely time, the hotel is gorgeous, pool was great, stroll along the beach front to the nearby town for amazing ice cream, went out on a couple of trips to see the sight, markets etc. As a single mum I find travelling alone with my DCs daunting, but this was a great holiday. What is it about the destination that's making you feel so anxious?

confessionsofatrolleydolley · 01/10/2019 23:41

@Asvan check the airline website. You can usually cancel for free within 24hrs...although you might have to claim the booking was a mistake 🤷‍♀️. It's a beautiful place if you can get the right accommodation though!

Asvan · 01/10/2019 23:59

I'm worried as I'm thinking the weather isn't going to be great, the pool might be too cold and I'm scared that it might be too much of a party place for the kids. Was the beach and surrounding area too rowdy at night?

It doesn't help that we are on a tight budget so maximum we can afford to spend is about £200 a night.

Asvan · 02/10/2019 00:01

I've already checked about cancelling. Ryanair don't let you cancel, they only let you change dates etc.

I wouldn't mind an AirBnB if it's central and within easy access to shops and restaurants as I don't really like cooking when I'm on holiday.

LittlefairyMum · 02/10/2019 00:05

How much were you planning on spending OP?

It's an extremely cheap country. You've got cheap flights too.

LittlefairyMum · 02/10/2019 00:07

It's a Muslim country.
Where are you getting the idea it's a party place?
It's not!

The weather will be allot better than anywhere in Europe at Easter 🤷‍♀️

I went to Agadir feb half term last year and it was really good. Stayed in an all inclusive hotel and just enjoyed a week of relaxing and eating. Headed out to the souk one day with my 5 year old and husband which was great. Didn't feel it was a party place particularly but mainly stayed in the hotel which was swanky and not lairy. We like it so much we booked again for next feb - and I never book same place twice - so must have been pretty good for us! I think getting the right hotel is the key.

Asvan · 02/10/2019 00:09

What was the weather like in February? Was it warm enough to go in the pool? Which hotel did you stay in? My budget is only about £200-£250 per night.

Im actually in agadir right now, its got a long lovely empty beach, my chiildren would have loved it, a budget location but if they like sea sand and swimming pools its great, this hotel is where i am staying, the pool is heated, its a couple of minutes from the beach and round the corner from the police station if that makes you feel more secure.

LittlefairyMum · 02/10/2019 00:20

The RUI 5 star, as I mentioned is one of the best.
You'll get all inclusive for your family for that budget... probably with change.
The Tika beach is the 4 star. It's great value for money but for the extra 200 or so ( for the week) definitely go for the 5*

Asvan · 02/10/2019 00:22

I can't seem to find the RUI website. If you could please send a link?

Anyone know if the pool and sea will be warm enough in mid April?

I'm just super anxious about the whole trip.

OP posts:
LittlefairyMum · 02/10/2019 00:27

It's A huge hotel chain. Look again.
They have heated pools, Balian beds, luxurious rooms for a pittance, especially as it's All Inclusive.

The weather should be perfect, though windy on the beach. The sand hurts!
It's a resort hotel.
You won't want to swim in the sea.
Definitely go for the 5*
You'll be delighted you did.

Asvan · 02/10/2019 00:29

Unfortunately the RIU is fully booked for our dates.

OP posts:
Asvan · 02/10/2019 00:30

Any other hotel suggestions would be good.

LittlefairyMum · 02/10/2019 00:32

The sofhotel (spl)
The RUI Tikka (4*) is a good second.

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 02/10/2019 00:53

@Etino sorry I've not been clear, we didn't we stayed in a lovely riad in central Marrakech, I really enjoyed it, but it was busy, very hot, dirty and I got groped a few times despite being very modestly dressed, I wouldn't do it on my own with three young children. I know a lot of people who go to Marrakech (especially the insta famous) do what I said in my previous post, AI hotels, which whilst being more manageable traveling alone with sandal DCs, for me isn't the point of Marrakech, which is why I wouldn't recommend it for OP in her current circumstances, I'd go for somewhere like Essaouira which had a more chilled out vibe around art, music and water sports.

Icantthinkofanewname87 · 02/10/2019 08:44

I loved Marrakech and didn’t stick to hotels! I was out and about as much as possible as I thought it was such a gorgeous country with such lovely people!

Icantthinkofanewname87 · 02/10/2019 08:45

I also never got groped! 😱

Icantthinkofanewname87 · 02/10/2019 08:47

Also to those saying it’s not a party place because it’s a Muslim country - you’re wrong, some parts are. There just was just recently a vey boozy music festival there, I believe in Agadir! But of course it’s not all like that.
