Regret booking a flight to Agadir!

Asvan · 01/10/2019 22:55

I don't know what came over me, but this morning I ended up booking Ryanair flights to Agadir for the Easter holidays. The flights are for me, my husband and three kids aged 4, 8 and 10.

The flights were cheap but now I am really regretting it. I can't seem to find any decent family type hotels that are within our budget and i've seen mixed reviews about Agadir being a party destination. I just wanted it to be a nice relaxing break for us.

Is there any way I can cancel the flights? Or change to another destination? I can't afford to lose £600 but I'm so nervous about going that I don't know what to do.

I've been to marrakech before. Not with children though. Honestly I hated it. I found it dirty, far too busy and I love city breaks. I also found most the people there very unfriendly. Constantly getting hassled, shouted at, all very unpleasant and extremely rude. I imagined the markets to be a bit like sex and the city 2 film. They were not!! I would never return. I think op for April personally you can't go wrong with canary Islands for a family break?

AskMeHow · 02/10/2019 12:25

Agadir will be nice and warm. It's warm all year.

Why not use TripAdvisor to find a hotel? It's what I usually do, or Airbnb if that fails.

reasonablesettlement · 02/10/2019 12:36

Hi

I regularly visit Morocco and it is a fab place to travel to with kids.

If you are on a tight budget, then in Agadir I can recommend the Farah hotel. www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g293731-d2080653-Reviews-New_Farah_Hotel-Agadir_Souss_Massa_Draa_Region.html#REVIEWS

Agadir has changed a lot in recent years and it is a bit of a package holiday destination now. But the Farah is away from the all day English breakfast stuff.

Agadir is a great base to visit other places. You could go to Essaouira - it is my favourite place. The only issue to be aware of is that, though not far from Agadir, it can be cooler and windier.

Please give some more details on your party size. Renting a riad could be the perfect solution for you.

reasonablesettlement · 02/10/2019 12:38

You have categorically not made a mistake BTW! You have made a very clever choice and there are loads of cost effective options for you.

You are going to a great country, full of warm, friendly people with great food and wine!

SalamanderOnHoliday · 02/10/2019 12:49

I didn't get groped in Marrakech either...despite staying in a riad in the centre....loved it.

Ferretyone · 02/10/2019 12:52

@confessionsofatrolleydolley
@Asvan

I do hope that you can ultimately enjoy this.

Cancel with Ryanair "not a hope" I'm afraid

Greywalls12 · 02/10/2019 12:55

Me and DH went to Agadir around this time a few years ago.
We stayed at tildi hotel, which another poster had mentioned and we had a great time! Loads of things to see and do!
There are definitley a good few party places, but i wouldn't say it's overrun with them or a party town!

Itsjustmee · 02/10/2019 12:57

I stayed at the ibostar Founty beach last year in June
Weather was perfect hotel was at the fat end of the prom right Opposite it’s own section of the beach
There were lots of kids there and the hotel had a kids club

LittlefairyMum · 02/10/2019 15:32

@Itsjustmee , second the Iberostar.

All inclusive is cheap there too. It's a great resort.

VickyLouT · 02/10/2019 16:06

We stayed in the RIU palace tikida and there is the new RIU Palace tikida taghazout. Was surprised how warm the weather was in feb 26/27 degrees. Hot enough to lay out in your swimsuit. One outdoor pool wasn't heated and was too cold to go in. It was really quiet so it was fine to use the other heated outdoor pool. We spent every day at the pool.I don't think I could cope with an all inclusive holiday at peak season so it worked out good for us.

GladAllOver · 02/10/2019 16:17

As a general point with airline strikes and tour operators going bust, I don't think it's wise to be booking flights and accommodation separately. You are much safer booking a package with an ATOL registered holiday company.

tweedledeedo · 02/10/2019 16:22

Littlefairy it's RIU. Not RUI

That'll be why op couldn't find it for anyone else looking

Personally I'd ring Ryanair and see about changing the destination. I know they've got a really rubbish reputation but they've done it for me before

SnappedandFartedagain · 02/10/2019 16:33

There's the LTI Agadir Beach Club. Or the Allegro Agadir, both good for budget stays.

Menhalk · 02/10/2019 16:39

Hi there my advice to you ,is not to regret go ahead with it and I assure you that you will have great time in Agadir. The people, food very nice the weather is great in the period of April, May.

FizzyIce · 02/10/2019 16:45

It’ll be roughly around 18-22 degrees .
But risky to book flights to somewhere you don’t know much about .
Google is your friend and I research the fuck out of places before I book anywhere but that’s because I’m a control freak

Menhalk · 02/10/2019 16:45

I am sorry to hear that you found Marrakech dirty. May be you went to cheap and poor place. In fact Marrakech is a beautiful and clean city, like everywhere else there are good and bad.

Menhalk · 02/10/2019 17:16

To find a good hotel depending on your budget visit Amoma site.Try to get a family room obviously.
A good hotel for kids is Tikida Dunas.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 02/10/2019 17:41

We’ve stayed in the Tildi too. It was fine. I found Agadir a relaxed place.

SAMSARA26 · 02/10/2019 20:55

Aswan I go twice a year my husband is firm there stay at club almoggar it's a brilliant holiday destination especially for families it's safe 30 mins from the airport and your in the heart of Agadir it is safe and very cheap to honestly you won't regret it...:)

TheWernethWife · 02/10/2019 21:18

My neighbour goes to Agadir twice a year, in fact, he is going next week for three weeks. He always comes back tanned and very relaxed.

Cal1963 · 02/10/2019 22:17

Hi just come back from agadir, it's very quiet beaches are good but large waves and rip tides, hotels are great and food is great. Theres a promenade you can walk down to marina for shops restaurants etc. Its really not a party place as it's all away from hotels. We loved it. Pools are really great too.

noclue2 · 02/10/2019 22:21

The Royal Decameron is nice, with great food. Generally found it a very peaceful place, much less of a party vibe than anywhere I have visited in Spain. Went in January, bit of rain but generally around 15-18 degrees. April will probably be lovely.

LittlefairyMum · 03/10/2019 08:59

@tweedledeedo so you only input into this thread is to inform me of my typo....okay 🙄

OP, I hope you feel a bit better about your decision.

30to50FeralHogs · 03/10/2019 09:59

It was far from rowdy when I was there. Very quiet along the beachfront, just lots of families, tourist and otherwise, out for a walk along the beach front. Obviously there are shops and restaurants along there too, but nothing like the traditional Spanish resorts people are implying here! I thought it was lovely.

Tealhearts1980 · 03/10/2019 16:03

Labranda les dunes dor. We stay there all the time is all inclusive check trivago as prices go up and down. Is 2w euro in a taxi from airport always agree price before u get in the car.
Hotel is on the beach and the marina is at the end of the beach with shops and restaurants. There is a McDonald's too.
Marrakesch is three hr coach ride away. First time there with kids stay in agadir.
No one will grope u. Ur in Morocco not Saudi Arabia!
