Dc's teenage theatre group is rehearsing a production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Apparently the director is vegan, so all references to foods of animal origin have been changed. Mr Tumnus now serves Lucy tomatoes on toast instead of sardines on toast, and a nice, lightly-boiled potato instead of a boiled egg.

Most of the kids, including the vegetarians, are not pleased, especially those who already know and love the Narnia stories.

Tell them to think of it as a stage adaptation.

If they are a theatre group they should be open to new concepts.

CendrillonSings · 01/10/2019 22:57

I’m guessing Turkish delight is out too?

Marshmallow91 · 01/10/2019 23:07

Stories adapt over time. If they don't like it they don't have to participate

malmi · 01/10/2019 23:13

Turkish delight is fine if it's just made from cornstarch.

Scarydinosaurs · 01/10/2019 23:15

Wtf that’s mental??

acatcalledjohn · 01/10/2019 23:15

That would irk me too. It's not an adaptation, it's a not so subtle way of forcing beliefs on impressionable youngsters.

Best make sure none of the costumes feature woollen scarves and leather shoes.

It's a fantasy genre story FFS. Does that really need to be adapted to a modern day lifestyle choice of the woke?

thepurplepenguin · 01/10/2019 23:23

Ha ha, I know the director of this production in real life! Totally nuts Grin

Etino · 01/10/2019 23:24

I’m guessing they don’t go through fur coats in the wardrobe!

Everything does. It’s the law. Or at least it’s followed as well as some laws, and better than most...

Turkish Delight is made with gelatine you MONSTER

VaguelySensible · 02/10/2019 00:38

What will Mr Beaver catch, and Mrs Beaver fry, to feed the children? Vegan beavers, anyone?

This story does not need these adaptations. They are ridiculous and do mot enhance or develop it.

thepurplepenguin, really!? Small world!

Lightly boiled potato GrinGrinGrin that’s made my day!!!

CendrillonSings · 02/10/2019 00:42

Hence the key plot point of the White Witch’s delicious Turkish delight - in a world of bland vegan treats, its forbidden wickedness makes it irresistible...

IAmBumblebee · 02/10/2019 00:53

Would be interested to know if he would make similar changes to Little Shop of Horrors? Is it okay if the plants eat us?

DominicCummingsGilet · 02/10/2019 00:55

Can someone suggest Sweeney Todd for the next production? Or would products made from humans be ok?

managedmis · 02/10/2019 00:57

I'm sorry but that's hilarious 😂

managedmis · 02/10/2019 00:58

thepurplepenguin

^^really? Is he vegan? Or just bonkers?

ErrolTheDragon · 02/10/2019 01:17

Er, I think beavers are veganGrin ...though they probably don't care if they munch down a bug in their tree or whatever. No idea what they could feed to children though.

ClemDanFango · 02/10/2019 01:25

The beaver kids will have fried logs for tea.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/10/2019 01:25

The only potatoes which might be nice lightly boiled are new ones, hardly likely to be available in constant winter. Or tomatoes, come to that. I don't actually think it'd be possible for a human to be a vegan in that climate. Not sure about a faun, are their digestive systems more human or goat?

thepurplepenguin · 02/10/2019 06:52

Yes! A colour that starts with the letter I Grin

roseenglishrose · 02/10/2019 06:58

All I've got is

Lavender
Lemon
Lilac
Lime green

Kyvia · 02/10/2019 07:00

Oh please ask your child to very seriously ask where Mr Tumnus has got tomatoes from, in the land of always winter, never Christmas? (although same could be said of sardines I guess, I can’t imagine there’s many canning factories in Narnia).
Brassicas or root veg would be more realistic, surely Grin

DanielRicciardosSmile · 02/10/2019 07:01

A lightly boiled potato doesn't sound that nice tbh. It sounds like it'd be rock hard.
