To order antibiotics online?

Pretty sure I've got some sort of ladies problem. It's not an STI as I've been tested for that. Could be BV or something similar. My doctors are useless - can't get an appointment for ages. And I don't want to go to the GUM clinic. After a quick google I was surprised to learn you can buy metronidazole online from Superdrug. Has anyone done this before? Is it safe to do this if you are pretty confident as to what the condition is - I.e BV?

I don't see the problem with ordering it through a reputable online pharmacy with an online gp consultation. Just answer the questions honestly, if it's not appropriate they will refuse to give the medication.

Don't take advice from internet ransoms in your health. You should be seeing a Doctor, after all, it's what they do.

I have seen a doctor. They just don't make it very easy because they refused to test for one of the key things it could be. Instead they have tried to send me elsewhere. I have ruled out other infections by taking a test for STIs at home so I know I'm clear of those.

I have used the Superdrug online service a few times and was happy.

Would recommend taking a probiotic with antibiotics to maintain the good flora so you don’t get nasties like thrush afterwards though.

I don’t know if people are being deliberately obtuse on this thread or what...
The OP isn’t saying she wants the antibiotics without a prescription- the online service is checked by a DOCTOR first.
She isn’t saying that she wants them prescribed because she had them 10 years ago. She’s saying she had no side effects 10 years ago.

OP- answer the questions and the online doctor will decide if they are suitable for you.

They did however signpost you to the NHS clinic where the testing will,be carried out.

So you either go there, go to a private GP, or try the online Superdrug GP. If you do decide on the third option, would you come back to update the thread on whether the online doctor prescribed for you (or if, like your GP, they want diagnostic tests carried out in specialist clinic first)

Out of interest I have completed the questionnaire that you have to do to order the antibiotics and pp is right, it asks lots of questions about medical history, allergies, conditions etc. Of course people could lie but if you do that you're only running the risk of causing yourself more medical problems. I haven't completed the order yet because I'm going on holiday this week and don't want to risk taking the medication while I'm away in case there are side effects. But it's reassuring to know that you can get them and it is something that will be looked over by a doctor. I may also do the canestan test first just to confirm that it is one of the two things I think it could be.

I have to stress I'm not reckless with my health, if anything I'm over cautious. I wouldn't want to take risks. But it's not like I'm ordering off some black market

@Sugartits87 there’s a combined test for Trich here - onlinedoctor.superdrug.com/trichomoniasis.html Sorry if link isn’t clicky, I’ve completely forgotten how to do it Blush

Sugartits87 · 03/10/2019 15:24

Thought I would update as people seemed quite heated about this. I did the canestan test - results were probable bacterial infection which I suspected. Spoke to the pharmacist who gave me some gel to try first. I did ask if failing that it was safe to order antibiotics online from reputable places like Lloyd's and Superdrug and so on. She said yes because all requests are checked over by a doctor.

And if it turned out to be trich then it is treated the same way.

As mentioned I'm going away on Sunday so don't want to start taking antibiotics right now anyway in case there are side effects plus I'll want a few cocktails!
